Fantastic Fest kicks off in Austin, Texas, on Thursday, Sept. 18, and boasts an impressive lineup of films, including the Keanu Reeves-starring hitman thriller John Wick, Kevin Smith’s man-walrus horror fable Tusk, and the world premiere of Joe Lynch’s action extravaganza Everly (of which, much more later in the week).
But the movie screenings at this much-beloved sci-fi, fantasy, and horror event are just the tip of the iceberg—the tusks on the walrus suit, if you will—of the activities which attendees can enjoy. Below, Fantastic Fest cofounder and Alamo Drafthouse head honcho Tim League talks about the treats in store,...

Our favorite film festival in the world is nigh. Later next month, Austin, Texas will host hundreds of genre fans for Fantastic Fest 2014!! We have the full list which includes the Us Premiere of Tusk as well as the World Premieres of ABCs of Death 2 and Horsehead. These won’t be all the films that will play the 10th anniversary of the film festival but it would be enough if it was. Look forward to more announcement waves of programming and don’t forget to follow up with our predictions that we made last week. I have added trailers above the film titles, if available. If the trailer is not available, there will be a still above the title.

It's that time of year again, isn't it? There is no greater party on Earth for fans of genre films than Austin's annual Fantastic Fest, and ten years in, they just keep making it better. "In 2014, we are taking no prisoners. This festival is going to set new boundaries of decadence, destruction and debauchery." - Tim League As much as I love events like Cannes, Sundance, or Toronto, I can't imagine the directors of those festivals ever issuing that statement. The scary thing is that Tim League isn't kidding. Fantastic Fest is special because it's much more than just movies being screened. Every day is packed with events that elevate the entire festival, and with this year taking place at the new Alamo Drafthouse on S. Lamar, complete with the brand-new Highball, it feels like it's going to be a blow-out the likes of which even the most avid Fantastic...

The Alamo Drafthouse’s Fantastic Fest has a stellar rep around these parts, and it’s not hard to see why when you consider some of the indie titles that have played there in recent years. Last year alone saw Coherence, Grand Piano and Septic Man make their world premieres, and films like Blue Ruin, Afflicted, Witching & Bitching, The Sacrament and Borgman all land in the U.S. for the first time.
This year doesn’t look to be any different, with a terrific lineup of indie titles including boatloads of promising horror. We’ve got sequels like The ABCs of Death 2 and V/H/S Viral, and originals like Kevin Smith’s anticipated Tusk and The Babadook. Keep in mind this is only the first wave of film announcements for Fantastic Fest 2014 – we’ll keep you posted as more titles are confirmed for the festival, which runs in Austin,...

We’ve got passes to the exclusive, members-only screening!
Currently, Los Angeles’ Cinefamily is engaged in a 5-day festival of, well, Everything! They kicked off last night with a panel discussion with writers past and present of Conan O’Brien’s late night shows and a screening of greatest hits from the sublimely odd Food Party, with show host Thu Tran pulling out a gonzo, gross out food demo. And that was only just the beginning.
But the ending is fast approaching and with it comes a super-rare screening of the godfather of found footage mashups, Joe Dante and Jon Davison’s The Movie Orgy. The only way to attend this screening is to become a Cinefamily member*.
Until now, that is.
We have 5 pairs of tickets to giveaway for the July 4th screening! It’s going to be epic and we want the house stocked with the finest of cinephiles,...

On Tuesday, April 27, Independent Film Channel (IFC) launches a second season of its surreal cooking/puppet show "Food Party," featuring host Thu Tran, an artist who studied glass-blowing at the Cleveland Institute of Art before moving to New York to pursue her vision.
That dream has now led her to a Brooklyn warehouse overstuffed with colorful puppets and handmade props, where she and several of her fellow Cleveland art students create her strange and colorful show, set in a hand-crafted, brightly hued cardboard kitchen.
"Oh, yeah," she tells Zap2it, "I always knew I'd have a TV show, and I knew that path [of studying glassblowing in Cleveland] was the path I needed to take to go about it. I love TV. I didn't know what I was doing in school. I just knew that I liked to make art. Glassblowing, at the time, was a really fun thing to do, just because it was a very immediate thing.

Food Party, the fantastical, food-centric IFC Original Comedy series created and hosted by Brooklyn fringe artist Thu Tran and her motley mix of unruly puppets, returns to IFC April 27, 2010 at 10:00 pm Et/Pt. The comedy will be served in 20 all-new 15-minute episodes, two episodes airing back-to-back during IFC.s Tuesday night Automat programming block, followed by new episodes of "Dinner with the Band." The show is best described as a psychedelic melding of Pee Wee.s Playhouse and Rachael Ray with a dash of J-Horror vibe. Shot on location in Brooklyn, NY in a handmade, technicolor cardboard kitchen, with each episode a new gastronomical misadventure. In a surreal, live-action cartoon-like universe, Thu creates out-of-this-world delicacies with...
