Apart from some camera-work and a couple of shots involving stand-ins, Eric Bay-Andersen made this film completely by himself.
The characters are named after actors who have done films where they also played multiple roles: Peter is named after Peter Sellers (who played three characters in Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)), Eddie is named after Eddie Murphy (who played multiple characters in films such as The Nutty Professor (1996) and Coming to America (1988)), Alec is named after Alec Guinness (who played a whole family of characters in Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949)) and Mike is named after Mike Myers (who played four characters in Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002)). Mike could also be named after Michael Keaton, who played several versions of the same character in Multiplicity (1996).
The digitally-manipulated photos on the shelf in the hallway featuring multiple versions of Eric Bay-Andersen were made years before this film, and served as the initial inspiration for it.
