Beautiful

I just stumbled upon "Look" while looking through IMDb Pro at another film titled "Look." This is such a beautiful short film! I could feel a lot of angst on the part of the barmaid about her not measuring up to the in-crowd. "Look" is very deserving of its Accolade and it should really be submitted to more festivals. The plot was well written and intriguing. I really liked the music and I might just play the film again just to listen to it. I thought that it is really too bad that the IMDb version is not HD but I could better see the high quality of the RED One 4K at the director's website. Congrats to the cast and crew for a successful effort.

Beautiful!

I liked the cameo appearance of the director as the photographer in the first scene at the photography studio. The hug between the photographer and the model was really genuine and all around adorable. The door scene is really captivating because so much is said without a single word. The looks exchanged amongst the actors and with the slamming door too all really punctuated the mood. I also enjoyed the dolly shot with the old time wedding dress on the model. The up close shot of the model's eyes seemed to show a more vulnerable side to the model. The model character seemed romantic and daring, which was fun to watch. I found that the dolly shot scene with the black dress was cut well. However, I was disappointed that I could not see details of the model's outfit in that shot. The smog effect was so high that I comprehended the dream sequence very well. But I thought I missed out on what the details of the long black gown were because in every other shot I saw a pretty detailed shot of the model's fashionable clothing. All in all, I thought the film was a strong piece of work.

Vibrant... nice piece of art.

I watched the original high quality version of LOOK on Ryan Pickett Productions dot com. The cinematography shone clear in the high quality version. So, I really understood the film on a different level with the clarity, and I loved the vibrancy. The score is really soothing and chilling. The romantic violin made me nervous of the unstable waitress, while at the same time leaving me relaxed to watch the beautiful picture. The film is really a work of art by a freshly budding cast and crew. The debut of this group of people working together made me think that something just clicked, like the artistic chemistry amongst everyone was very genuine. This film visually describes what art could mean. The lack of dialog works with this form of art because sometimes the words are what take away from the compatibility that people have. The fact that the only verbal exchange is between the waitress and the supermodel shows the premonition of the conflict to come between these two characters. The waitress has a couple voice over lines, and again, these lines show that the waitress has an inner discord. LOOK asks what art is... a beautiful model / muse? a tortured female? and perhaps an imaginary lover? Art should really leave viewers with a question, and LOOK surely leaves me with questions indeed.

Look: A Vibrant FIlm

Warning: Spoilers
I'm a fashionista so I'm a green filmmaker while I have an extensive background in costume design. The major pull that "Look" has is that it is visually appealing. Every costume choice, including the photographer's (Ryan Pickett's) red shirt and jeans shows careful thought. I read some reviews that "Look" has a hard to follow narrative. Well, "Look" isn't really supposed to be a narrative, is it? Everything I've read shows that "Look" is an experimental short film... I mean, "Look" just won an Award of Merit for Best Experimental Film in the Best Shorts Competition according to Wikipedia. Experimental films are typically pretty different.

"Look" has a soundtrack that is killer if you like Indian music. The guy who plays on the soundtrack... is it The Other Deepak? He's really great!

Another pro to this movie is the all-around hot talent. Theresa Meeker's obviously beautiful with a talent modeled off of perhaps the great Jackie O. Then Starina is rather pretty for someone playing the ugly friend... Star's definitely Hollywood ugly. Plus, the extra Alison Parson is just a southern cutie. The director and John Ferguson are very good looking as well.

But let's get down to meaning, now. What does all this good-looking cast mean when "Look" is two-years-old? I completely support the re-release that I've been hearing about. Yay, for a 2011 re-release for "Look!"
