Awful
sea_imdb15 May 2010
May be the worst movie I have ever seen. Plot, Acting, Dialogue - all completely awful.

If you feel like hating life for 1hr 15min just watch it.

Wow - how does stuff like this get made? And why did I watch it? The story is just painful. Half the movie takes place in a campaign fund-raising scene. Seriously they couldn't afford more extras? And the characters in that scene are just too painful. There are some wacky subplots that just go nowhere.

The acting is almost comical and feels like a high school acting project or something. wow.

Awful is too kind a word
ramst5321 May 2010
The only other reviewer calls this "feature" awful. Trust me when I say that is too kind a word. I usually try to find something redeeming in most films I watch, but there is simply nothing here. I often wonder, when I see productions like these with big names in them (Zane, Roberts, Givens-does she count?), if those people are desperate for money. I know Zane just had a show recently on ABC that was canceled, and Roberts does some decent work here and there, but their decision-making skill have to be called into question when they attach their names to this.

Subplots that are sort of relevant but don't really make sense and don't come to a resolution, bad acting all around, horrible editing and shot selection, horrific special effects, and production value that looks as if it was shot with a hand-held digital camera all contribute to this "fine" feature.

Avoid at all costs. Please. I beg of you....

I turned it off after 20 minutes...
djsneakypeaky23 May 2010
Oh dear, very few films have made me stop watching before they're finished. This film made me stop watching it before it had really started!

The acting is like something you might see on a Soap Opera or Sci-Fi channel movie. The fake accents are awful. Not one character in the film made me believe they weren't just reading lines from a script.

20 Minutes in I decided that I couldn't take anymore of this tripe so turned it off. Looking at the other reviews of this 'movie' it appears I saved myself from wasting time.

I didn't even get to see Billy Zane much, then again how many good movies has he been in???

The trailer made it look watchable but it's not!!!

Stay Away from this.
madmountainza24 May 2010
I don't usually make reviews, but in this case, I felt it necessary to do so for the good of mankind.

This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. On a scale of 1-10, I gave it 1, but only because I couldn't choose 0 or lower.

All that ever happens in this film is talking, and half the time it's off-topic and supported by terrible acting.

The acting is bad, the plot/story is bad, the action is bad. Take my advice and stay away from this.

I can never get back the hour and a bit that I lost while watching this, but I can hopefully help you to avoid making the same mistake.

This is supposed to be an international political thriller.
yoienu12 June 2010
This is the first time I have EVER complained about a movie. It was so bad that I purposely joined IMDb.com to write a review. The acting is very poor (a real joke)! Robyn Givens actually gave the best performance of the cast-which isn't saying much! Eric Roberts must have known this film would flop. It shows in his demeanor. I kept wondering what was wrong with him. Roberts usually gives a decent performance. Poor Billy Zane tried to give it a shot but the writing and directing seemed to be done by amateurs. I couldn't make it through the film and had to shut it off because I didn't want to waste my time. I plan to read reviews here at IMDb before renting my next movie.

Now I know what they mean by "one of the worst films ever made"
MrBelette3 June 2010
I have to agree with the other posters. Watching this movie is one of the worst experiences of my life. The plot goes nowhere, the acting can't be taken seriously, the dialog is ridiculous, the humor is not funny and the action scenes are lame. It feels so long and it runs only 70 minutes. How can someone be proud and put his name on the screen as writer, producer and director for that ? Even Billy Zane and Eric Roberts who made bad movies should be ashamed for doing this one. I hope that people who keep bashing Uwe Boll take a look at this one. They'll know what a really bad movie looks like. That is terrible and I hope the director will stop doing movies and choose to work in another field.

Terrible, terrible, terrible movie
treysweeney13 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Terrible movie. This should be labeled a comedy. Separate plot lines (connected by a mere unnecessary phone call) mixed with terrible acting cause a true one-of-a-kind movie watching experience.

How expensive is good camera work? All the shots in this movie are from the view point of a midget in the back of a crowd; always looking up and peoples backs listening to people talk.

All background information is given through long, boring monologues. As far as the plot goes, this could possibly be an interesting start to a political thriller. But it took way to long to go nowhere with it.

All in all, a terrible movie. 1 star. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME.

A third rate film. Don't bother with it.
tsmithjr18 October 2011
Why was this alleged "film" made? "Enemies Among Us" was filmed like you were watching a documentary (no disrespect meant to any documentaries). But there was no feel or emotion or decent flow to the film. The writing was horrid and forced. It was like the script was the first lame script someone ever wrote. And the escape scene was preposterous And the directing was missing in action.

Billy Zane, Robin Givens and Eric Robins are decent actors and should have been given the key roles. I don't understand why one of them didn't get the part of the governor. Instead they gave that part to a no name and part suffered for it.

I don't know what the budget for this was, but this had that low budget feel written all over every minute of this.

And I found that the best acting was when no one was talking. What does that tell you about the poor script? There was even an annoying buzz or whine during one of the non-torture prison scenes which didn't belong there. I assume it was either some feedback or really bad sound work.

My best advice is to read a book or watch something else.

Quality of a porno flick without the sex
gerry-732-7643357 July 2013
This movie is one of the worst I have ever seen. Bad right from the beginning. I am 2/3 through it and am writing this review. What an awful movie.

The story is useless. The political bias is so obvious. It is like watching an MSNBC opinion piece.

The characters are stereotypical. If they disagree with the politics of the writer, they are bad.

Bad guys are the like the bad guys in an old fashioned western movie.

A thriller without the thrills. Dialogue is rated 2/10 so the rest must be awful to drag it down to a 1/10 overall.

I want my $1 RebBox money back!
wchb71223 July 2010
Warning: Spoilers
***Spoiler Alert***** This movie is by far the worse move in the history of film making. The acting is so contrived that you swore the 'actors' were reading from queue cards. I was so painful to watch as this cast of misfits tried to add feelings and emotions to their lines. The story goes nowhere. Cliché abound. And the action sequences come from the old Batman or Superman TV shows. Remember the villain ducking a good 2 seconds before Batman took a swing? Remember the slowly thrown hand gun at Superman and he ducks? Same things here except for the wacky cartoon bubbles. For the love of all that is holy, this should have been made as a cartoon. No way any competent actors would sign up for this unless they are in if for the money grab. I agree with the other reviewers that the acting was on par with a 10th grade play. A Telemundo soap opera thinks that this movie was over-the-top. Save your $1 for the 99cent burger instead.

Bad Dog! Bad!!
james-croy9 November 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I would like to disagree with the other viewers who have given this movie such terrible reviews, but, alas, I cannot. If there were an Oscar for the worst movies of the year, this would be a nominee. While the script has small glimmers of possibility, the staging and acting are quick to cover them up. With the exception of the obligatory chase scene, the entire movie seems to have been filmed in a hotel--including the scene which was supposedly taking place in the Capitol. Billy Zane is in only two scenes, and in one of them he does not speak. The supporting actors deliver their lines as if, inasmuch as the producers were trying to keep the budget below $3.95, there were no rehearsals. The sound was terrible and the film quality was very poor. SPOILER ALERT By the time the governor is shot and killed, we were ready to get in line to do the job if no one else did.

Bad, but not horrible
Bob_the_Hobo29 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Let's start off by saying that Billy Zane had two scenes in this movie, and that the quick cut away to his image at the beginning doesn't count.

Overall, this wasn't that horrible. (Though that's not an accolade). The stars on the cover are not the stars of the film.

We have a decent younger actor named Griffin Hood as the real star. Hood and Eric Roberts' character are in charge of Governor Chip Majors (James Dumont), which will of course lead to many shoot outs and assassination attempts.

Billy Zane, who gets top billing, had about five minutes in this film. That really ticked me off, as I spent the whole time (which was a short hour and ten minutes) thinking; "Where is the star of the movie?" Steven Bauer has a cool little role as the sleazy presidential nominee, and Eric Roberts is cool anyways.

Not a bad Saturday afternoon action flick.

Amazing
bailoutlists22 January 2011
The film is an abortion on screen. OMG who wrote this piece of ***t? I have seen these actors in other works and I know that they can act. What happened?

The script contains every overused slang phrase of modern speech. The actors deliver lines like they are in a high school play. The worst performance by someone playing a female investigative journalist (she must be sleeping with the producer)I ever seen on screen.

Better yet, how did this ever get released? I saw this when I was looking for something to watch on cable that I had not already seen 10xs. I saw the cast Billy Zane--always good--Eric Roberts--always good. Not a chance this time and for god's sake what happened to Steve Bauer? I hope they did it for the money and the money was good.

amazing.

You people crack me up...
Smwmia3 September 2012
When I see people nit-picking Dan Garcia's movies for obvious military blunders( this movie and Garcia's "Flesh Wounds" with Kevin Sorbo) I laugh out loud. The reason Garcia doesn't "consult" the DOD or any other military adviser is because he doesn't care about authenticity, continuity, or quality(Journey to Promethea). He's a convicted drug dealer (google "Kane and Abel prison") who has been churning out these Louisiana made crappers for years. He rakes in state incentives that post-Katrina Louisiana has been shelling out to attract the movie industry and selling these clunkers on DVD and to foreign markets(I saw his Terror Trap on HBO in China!). If you see Garcia Productions attached to any "film" you will be guaranteed to see lots of bad acting, worse direction, and yes, military people with their hands over their hearts instead of saluting old' Glory.

This is so far above your pay grade that you can't imagine
sol121815 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILERS*** sloppily made international political thriller that has to do with a nominee for vice president Louisiana Governor Chip Majors who's somehow involved, in knowing too much, about the North Korean uranium enrichment program that's threatening world peace. That's if the North Koreans are able to produce military grade plutonium to fit into their intercontinental missiles and .150 to .300 mm artillery shells.

It's before Chip is to attend a major contributer shindig at a swanky New Orleans hotel that he decides to let off some steam by fooling around with his favorite $1,000.00 a pop hooker so he can loosen himself up for the important political affair. It's just when he popped himself up with a couple of Viagra pills and is about to go into action that Chip notices that his sexual partner is, with a gun and silencer attached to it, planing to rub him out before he can even pull his pants off. Beating her, the hooker, to the punch Chip ends up both disarming and strangling her to death. With the two Louisiana state troopers who were protecting him coming to his aid their shocked to find the governor is such a embarrassing and compromising position. In a hotel room with his clothes off and a dead hooker laying in his bed!

The two state troopers Devin Taylor & Tom Cobb, with Taylor somewhat hesitant, are given one million dollars by Chip to cover up the whole mess that he just got himself into. A mess that would not only destroy his political carer but can land him behind bars for 10 to 15 years!

The movie jumps from Louisiana to off all places war-torn Afganistan where officer Cobb's estrange wife Gloria is working with the US military as a CIA interrogator. It's then that we realize just what all this has to do with Governor Chip Majors. It's in what Chip knows about the North Koreans and their nuclear ambitions that he can really do them lots of damage. That's if he ever gets elected vice president and informs his boss, his party's Presidential Candidate South Carolina senator Edmund, about them and their future military plans!

It's then that the film start to get completely out of hand with gangs of North Korean hit squads who originated out of Afghanistan to provide the North Koreans with cover, in not being connected with them, in trying to eliminate Gov. Majors before he and his running mate Sen. Edmund end up in the oval office!

***SPOILERS*** With a number of shoot ups car chases and explosions to keep the audience from falling asleep, in trying to follow what the film is trying to tell them, Gov Majors is eventually neutralized but only after officer Taylor, by refusing to take his bribe money, decides to turn him in. Officer Cobbs who played along with the corrupt Governor ended up getting iced by the North Korean sponsored assassins to also make sure that he doesn't talk if, like Taylor, he decides to change his mind. In the case of Officer Taylor he doesn't have to be silenced by the hit teams since he, by trying to play the good guy in the movie, ended up getting framed in the Governors murder and is set to spend the rest of his life, if he's in fact not executed, behind bars!

P.S Even though he gets top billing in the movie actor Billy Zane is on screen for less then five minutes. Zane plays CIA chief of Far Eastern Operations Graham who orchestrated this entire sleazy and criminal operation and at the same time, in him being almost invisible in the film, not wanting to be connected to it.

patriotic exercise near opening
mmilord30 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
A patriotic exercise at the beginning, with students and uniformed military pledging allegiance, showed service members holding their hands over their hearts. Servicemembers in uniform render a salute during a patriotic exercise. Before using uniformed military in a production, producers would do better to consult with e department of defense of a specific service. This would help ensure that any military portrayal would be the most accurate. Althoug many would overlook this error, service members and veteran will readily know this and perhaps feel slighted. It is a small oversight, and should not detract from the overall quality of the production.

Yeah, this was crap
daniel-mannouch1 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The Secret Enemy otherwise known as Enemies Among Us is a political thriller directed by Dan Garcia starring Billy Zane and Eric Roberts. Chip Majors, the Governor of Louisiana had it all. In a presidential election year, he is the frontrunner for the Vice Presidential Nominee of his party. Unfortunately, the dark secrets of his past as a covert NSA operative come back to haunt him. He finds himself fighting not only for his political career, but also for his life.

With a level of political discourse found in the dumpster fire that is the comment section of any given mainstream media outlet's website, The Secret Enemy is a hard boiled, yet simultaneously half-baked film that rode the occupy wall street wave and spouted out antiquated talking points (and some not so antiquated) as well as a few conspiracy theories to keep things spicy.

What kills this film ultimately is the numerous talking head scenes featuring crazy, atonal editing that tries to hide the fact as well as wooden acting and stilted dialogue. No matter how many Politico articles the screenwriter read, the seeming smugness is very unappealing and I doubt claims of satire. I mean, satire doesn't necessarily have to be funny, at all, but all I heard in this film was vacuous impressions and lazy stereotyping with no wit, observation or rhythm even to be seen or heard.

There is some action scenes and a bit of southern sleaze even to justify all this hot air, and these elements have their "Dad movie" charm, but it's too little, too late. Throw in porno production quality and stock footage and music, and you have a truly Cajun recipe for disaster. If you want to see a political thriller done on the cheap and done right also, i recommend 2013's W.M.D or President Down as it's known in the U.K. if you want to see a tax break masquerading as a film and have it heavily suggest this to be fact within the film itself, (Yes, that is a thing that pretty much happened), then i advise with caution treading upon The Secret Enemy.

Worst Movie I Have Ever Tried to Watch
kennethchicago20 December 2014
If it were possible to give this movie a sub-zero rating I would do it. Never in my life have I seen anything this bad. Calling it awful is an insult to any other movie called awful. It is unbelievably rotten. from start to finish. I just don't think there are words bad enough to adequately describe the story and the acting. At first, I thought it must be a parody because I couldn't believe any actor would associate their name with this movie unless it was intended to be funny. I even looked on the internet to see if it was a spoof but, alas, I learned that it was supposed to be a thriller. That's sad. Billy Zane and Eric Roberts should apologize to movie fans everywhere. I understand that political thrillers can often be unrealistic with crazy plot twists and that they require suspension of disbelief. In this case, yes I am in disbelief that this movie was ever made.

Loved it - Corny but Great!
maria_caselato22 March 2011
While yes it is corny, a little predictable (find me a movie that isn't these days) but all in all, I loved it. Robin Givens is a great actress and plays an agent in charge of extracting information the old fashion way in order to save the Governor. With a hot assassin, and the scrumptious Billy Zane, you cant go past it. Awesome explosions, though its not The Expendables so it shouldn't be compared to films like that. Independent films are too often knocked and not given a chance which is a real shame. Watch it from outside the box.... That is if your not too closed minded... I don't care what everyone else says.... I LOVED IT!!! (Corny movies are great when you want to relax and not think after a hard days work!)

Crap, yes, but...
searchanddestroy-119 July 2010
Warning: Spoilers
That's the typical film I love to see, even if it is a very bad one. The acting, shooting, dialogues, characters are awful. Most TV movies arr far better than this non sense. That's probably one of the worst films ever made. Only one among thousands of this kind, I must admit. But the story is very interesting, because unusual. And I love what is unusual. No real leads in this feature, no good guys vs bad guys. In this tale there are actually many bad guys. And no ethics at all. No f...happy ending either.

I really love that, even, I repeat, if the film is forgettable for most of the viewers.

Once again, Robin Givens provides the sex and the sizzle in "Enemies Among Us."
brooksduane5427 October 2011
By and of itself, "Enemies Among Us" is a sprightly and, within its boundaries, tense film. It deals quite adroitly with the issues of international terrorism, political maneuvering, and American political complicity in international nefariousness. Yet the reason to savor it, the cause to exult in it is, as usual, Robin Givens. Although she is not in any sense the star of the picture--indeed, she really and truly doesn't have that many scenes--her role as government interrogator and former cop's wife Gloria genuinely stands out through her free-flowing sexiness, her sizzling intelligence, and her crisp authoritativeness. When she's leading the questioning of her and her colleagues' international soldier/prisoner, her smooth forcefulness and her graceful sex appeal have us riveted to her. When she's on the phone dealing with her uniformed cop ex (Eric Roberts), her sass and her spirit put us immediately on her side. And when she orders that said soldier/prisoner be "terminated"--translation: killed--after five minutes, her beauty and her suavity prevent us from being repulsed. The lady herself has asserted, concerning the quality she seeks in a mate: "I want someone who can handle me. And I'm not the easiest person to handle." Robin Givens's performance in "Enemies Among Us" puts us in a mood to gladly want to attempt to handle her--and to be fully excited regarding the challenge.
