War in the woods- before a live audience
Petey-1021 November 2011
Väinö Linna came up with his classic novel, Tuntematon Sotilas, in 1954.Next year came the movie version, which we see on TV every Indepence Day.In 1961 people saw it in the summer theater of Pyynikki in Tampere. Both the movie and theater version were directed by Edvin Laine.Tuntemattomat- Miehiä Menestysnäytelmän Kulisseissa (1968) shows the making of the 300th act the previous year. Some of the actors were in both the movie and theater versions, some were fresh faces.Matti Ranin, who played Kariluoto in the movie version, is Lammio here.Mr. Ranin turns 85 today, and he has had a great career in movies, on TV and in the theater. And it still goes on.Then there are people, like Helge Herala, Kosti Klemelä, Oiva Lohtander, Risto Mäkelä, Veijo Pasanen, Tapani Perttu and Esko Roine. It is quite fascinating to watch the reactions of the audience, when there's something funny happening on stage or when there is somebody dying. And to see how they make the magic happen, is really a treat.Wish I could have been there.
