Summer School: Chapter Five is directed by producer, Sheelin Choksey. The episode follows the events of the previous episode which had Cindy organizing the new ISA and also the Crocks escaping prison to see their daughter's tryouts. There were a lot of character development and world building. This episode has Pat and Courtney clash over their next steps in their search for Eclipso, ominous weather conditions in Blue Valley hint that he may be near. Meanwhile, Cindy's plan to recruit another student takes an unexpected turn, and Cameron opens up to Courtney.
The darker tone continues in this episode and I like that the writers and producers stayed true to their words, Eclipso is a dark villain and perfect for the show. We finally got to see some of him in the flesh and the visual effects was better than I expected. The Shade continues to be a great character. It's also nice to see that Cameron Mahkent has a larger role in this season, being the son of the villain and sharing the same powers as Icicle, I can't wait to see what the writers have in store for him and Artemis. I did like a lot about this episode but some of the writing for the light-hearted and romantic plot wasn't good, it felt forced and full of cliche. But other than that, good writing. I want to praise the voice acting that Nick E. Tarabay is doing for Eclipso, it's really good and terrifying which is needed.
