- With the sacrifice to Dionysus at hand, Sookie learns that she has a special role to play. She also begins to realize that her special powers not only make her immune from Mayann's spells but may mean she is something very special. Having returned from seeing the Queen of Louisiana, Bill approaches Sam with a plan to rescue Sookie and defeat Maryann. It does involve considerable risk however, especially for Sam. Later, as the town begins to recover from the final confrontation with Maryann the previous night, Eggs has difficulty adjusting and the rumor mill over who did what and why goes into high gear. Elsewhere, Jessica and Hoyt haven't quite made up yet and she seems to have developed other interests. Bill invites Sookie to a very special dinner but it doesn't quite end as either of them had hoped.—garykmcd
- Open with Sookie surrounded by Lafayette, Tara and Eggs, all of whom are under Maryann's spell. They put her in a dress and take her downstairs where Maryann is wearing Gran's wedding dress. "Welcome, Sookie," Maryann says. "You're going to be my maid of honor." Maryann wants Sookie to do the thing with her hand again, but Sookie can't replicate it. Maryann thinks Sookie isn't human, as evidenced by the fact she can't be put her under the spell.
Maxine wants Hoyt to let her leave the house, telling him that "a god is coming into our midst."
Maryann thinks Sookie is "beyond" human. She tells Sookie that sacrificing Sam will be a wedding gift for a marriage ceremony with a god. Sam's heart will be an offering to Dionysus (her husband-to-be).
Eric plays Yahtzee with Sophie-Ann. Sophie-Ann tells him to stay away from Maryann and they discuss Bill and Sookie. We learn that Eric has been selling vampire blood on her behalf. She warns him that no one need know she is supplying the 'V' and he promises to "take care of Bill Compton. Personally."
Jason and Andy arrive at Sookie's place, armed to the teeth and ready to save their town. Upon seeing the Dionysian festivities on Sookie's front lawn, Andy has second thoughts, pointing out that they are vastly outnumbered. But Jason pumps him up by mangling several action movie catchphrases, including, "I love the smell of nail polish in the morning!" With that, they attempt to sneak through the crowd, only to be overpowered by the black-eyed revelers.
And... they are put under Maryann's spell in about two seconds.
At Merlotte's, Bill tells Sam that Sookie needs him to be offered up for Maryann. Sam doesn't think it will do any good, but Bill doesn't care.
Back at Gran's, Sookie asks about the gigantic egg, which all the black-eyed bridesmaids are anointing with blood... using their tongues. Maryann explains that it is an ostrich egg representing fertility, and forces Sookie to lick it as well. "The time has come," Maryann says. When Sookie tells Maryann she won't take part, Maryann threatens to kill Jason.
The ceremony begins and Bill arrives with Sam. Maryann lets him exchange Sam for Sookie. Sookie is mad at Bill for giving up Sam. "You have to trust me," he tells her. Maryann calls out for Dionysus, "my bull-horned god." Sam's offering symbolizes his re-birth. Sam is hoisted up onto the ceremonial altar and the knife is produced. Eggs takes the knife and plunges it into Sam's chest. Maryann takes a bit of Sam's blood and wipes it on her neck. Sookie reads Sam's mind, and he tells her to "destroy all of it." Sookie breaks the egg and knocks over the altar. Maryann, now angry, apologizes to Dionysus and suggests she kill all the people as a new offering. She creates a piercing high-pitched whine that makes everyone howl in pain.
Then Maryann jams her hands into the earth, and pulls them out as huge claws, chasing Sookie into the woods. Just as Maryann is about to strike Sookie with her poisoned claws, however, a large white bull steps out from the darkness. "My husband," Maryann says. "I'm here, my love." Thinking that the bull is that of Dionysus, Maryann walks over to the bull who promptly sticks one of his horns through her body, goring her. She thinks she is the sacrifice. "I'm happy to die, my lord." At this point the bull turns back into Sam and he pulls out Maryann's black heart. Seeing him, she realizes there is no god. He squeezes her heart in his hand and she appears to die, shriviling up into a decayed corpse. Her spell over Bon Temps is immediately broken. Sam explains that he drank Bill's blood to survive the knife wound; a deal they had worked out earlier.
Maxine realizes that Jessica bit her. Hoyt blames the spell for her earlier actions and tells her some of the things she said. Maxine confirms the story about his father was accurate. Hoyt is mad he didn't know earlier. Maxine had been guilting him into staying with her, even forgoing college and basic rites of adulthood, based on a lie. He turns to leave, adding as his parting words, "I wish Jessica had finished you off."
The townspeople are putting the pieces together and returning to their homes. Bud asks Andy to return to the department.
Bill thanks Sam for using his gift and the two seem come to an understanding.
Tara finds Eggs in the kitchen, confused by the blood on his hands. He wants to talk to Maryann, but Tara tells him she's gone, adding that Sookie used her powers to help Tara remember some of the things she did while under Maryann's spell. Eggs asks Tara to see if Sookie will do the same for him, and she advises him that it's probably not a good idea, and he "doesn't want to know."
The next day at Merlotte's, Arlene's kids tell her about Sam taking care of them. She promises to be a better mother. We see the townspeople are inventing their own unique ways of explaining what happened. Lafayette tells Sookie he doesn't ever want to know what happened. Andy and Jason are convinced they saved the town. Sam tells Sookie he's going to leave town for a couple days and asks her to take care of the place.
A package arrives for Sookie. Inside are a dress and a card from Bill asking that they go out that night. Eggs shows up and asks Sookie to show him what he did. She takes his hands and he sees all the people he killed: the Voodoo Woman, Miss Jeannette; Daphne; and (nearly) Sam. Eggs is distraught and doesn't seem to care when Sookie tries to comfort him by blaming Maryann and her spell.
On his way out the door for the date with Sookie, a kinder, gentler Bill seems okay with Jessica dating Hoyt.
Sam shows up at the Merlotte's home, reminding them that they abandoned him. Mrs. Merlotte tells him they were scared of his shapeshifting and didn't think they could raise him. She tearfully apologizes, but all Sam wants to know is the location of his biological parents. She tells him "you don't want to know them, they're bad people." There's a sound from a baby monitor, and Sam and Mrs. Merlotte head to a back room to see Mr. Merlotte (who is hooked up to life support and looks to be on death's door). He hands Sam a piece of paper with the names Melinda and Joe Lee Mickens on it.
Hoyt goes to Bill's and knocks on the door seeking Jessica, but she's not home. Cut to a truck stop, where Jessica is making out with a trucker. He reaches for a condom and she stops him, confessing that she's a virgin. He tells her he doesn't mind. "Really? Because I certainly do," she says, baring her fangs and taking a chomp out of his neck.
Bill rented out an entire French restaurant for his date with Sookie. She wonders what he'll do, since he can't eat the food. In response, he pulls Sookie close to him, and they dance.
Andy is heading out to his car when Eggs approaches, brandishing the ceremonial knife. Eggs begs Andy to arrest him. Eggs knocks Andy to the ground and recounts some of the things he has done in a threatening manner, holding the knife over Andy. Jason sees this and shoots Eggs in the head. Jason starts freaking out at what he has done, admitting he has never killed anyone before. Andy takes the gun and tells Jason to leave, and he runs off just as a crowd spills out of Merlotte's to see what happened . Andy tells everybody Eggs confessed and he had to shoot him. Tara, weeping over Eggs' body, is beside herself.
After dinner Bill slides a pair of tickets to Vermont across the table, which confuses Sookie...until he also produces a ring from his jacket pocket. "Miss Stackhouse, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"
Sookie isn't sure what to do, saying she barely knows who she is, and tearfully excuses herself from the table. In the bathroom she considers his offer and seems to make a decision. While she is gone someone slips a silver chain around Bill's neck. Sookie excitedly walks out of the bathroom saying "Yes, Bill Compton, I will marry you."
But when Sookie returns to the dinning area, Bill is gone, and the overturned chair in the dining room is but one of several signs of a struggle.
To be continued....
