If you threw some comic books, a couple third-person shooter video games, and some B-list action films from the 1980s into a special Movie Blender™, you’d probably end up with the John Wick movies. Then again, depending on the specific content of those ingredients, you might instead end up with the destruction-heavy adventure story Just Cause. So it’s […]

For all of the years of buzz and anticipation, not to mention the imposing lineage of legends like “Doom” and “Quake,” the 2011 release of id Software’s open-world shooter “Rage” landed with more of a whimper than a bang—and had little lasting impact.
Given the marketing for 2019’s “Rage 2,” then, it’s clear that id and publisher Bethesda took some lessons from that release. From propulsive Andrew W.K. backing tracks to pastel-drenched, “Mad Max: Fury Road”-esque goons parading around the screen, the initial “Rage 2” trailers show a game that’s trying hard to make a much stronger impression than the original.
As Tim Willits, id’s studio director and the original “Rage” game director, tells it, striking a bolder tone is not only about moving “Rage 2” away from the first game, but also the glut of other grim-looking, post-apocalyptic games released in recent years.

Robots want to destroy the '80s in Generation Zero, Avalanche's new co-op shooter. Here's the release trailer:
After months of waiting, we finally have a release trailer for Generation Zero.
This trailer, much like previous previews, focues on the atmosphere, visual design, and themes of its world. That's hardly a surprise given that the game's emphasis on style. We're also digging the game's soundtrack which sounds like something you might get if you combined the Terminator and Stranger Things theme songs while trying to avoid breaking any copyright laws.
Generation Zero is still expected to be released for the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on March 26.
In case you missed the initial reveal, Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios is working on Generation Zero; a somewhat interesting entry into the kill 'em all genre. It takes place in an alternate version of 1980's Sweden, which is...

Jason Momoa has apologized for a rape joke he made during San Diego Comic-Con 2011. Onstage to discuss “Game of Thrones,” the former Khal Drogo said he loved the sci-fi/fantasy genre “because there are so many things you can do, like rip someone’s tongue out of their throat and get away with it and rape beautiful women.” Video of the joke resurfaced today, and now the actor has responded on Instagram.

Video Game movie adaptations have often been hit and miss affairs. For every Silent Hill there are a hundred Super Mario Bros. Even the Resident Evil game series, borne out a love of B-movie horror, has had huge problems making the transition to the big screen. However, with Alicia Vikander as our new Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and a forthcoming movie based on the Uncharted games it seems the adaptation train will keep on rolling. There’s a new name in town today, as reports are coming in that Jason Momoa will lead a film based on Avalanche and Square Enix’s Just Cause series.
A movie adaptation of the series was always on the cards. There’s a scant plot to propel lead character Rico Rodriguez through his various one-man revolutions. Each game (there have been three so far) features Rodriguez overthrowing a regime in a sun-drenched destination.

Hollywood keeps on trying to make those video game movies happen. It’s been a struggle for decades at this point, and while there have been a couple of solid films based on video game franchises, there really hasn’t been an outright hit. The Resident Evil movies worked for the audience they were aiming for, but didn’t need to become a huge hit in order to be a success. Warcraft only succeeded overseas, and Assassin’s Creed really didn’t please anybody, despite being the best suited to being a huge hit.
Nevertheless, despite all the failures, you have to hand it to studios for persevering. If you’ve been keeping track, we seem to have more video game movies in development now more than ever. Off the top of my head I can name Tomb Raider, Splinter Cell, Uncharted, and Borderlands, and we’re barely even scratching the surface of potentially-profitable IPs.

After several years of no movement, it looks like a film adaptation of the "Just Cause" video game franchise is showing signs of life again.
The games follow Rico Rodriguez, aka the Scorpion, a black ops agent who carries out deadly missions for the U.S. government which revolve around destabilising rogue nations from within and turning the bad guys against each other.
The first game in the series was set on the fictional South American Republic of San Esperito, the second around the Indonesian islands of Panau, and the third the Mediterranean archipelago of Medici. Rodriguez frequently uses both a grappling hook and retractable parachute to perform death-defying stunts that utterly defy the laws of physics.
From hijacking fighter planes in mid-air to a chase/boss battle that takes place on the back of freshly launched nuclear missiles, the series earned strong reviews for its fun and impressive open world scale.

For all the botched conversions and box office duds that the practice has produced, suddenly there’s a renewed interest among the Hollywood elite for video game adaptations. From Splinter Cell to the Michael Fassbender-led Assassin’s Creed, there’s a handful of projects that have the potential to finally bring an end to the curse that has lingered over the video game movie for well over a decade. Ubisoft isn’t the only publisher muscling its way into the action, though, as Square Enix is quietly toiling away on a Just Cause film.
As one of the most bombastic franchises in the medium, Avalanche’s chaotic open-world series is revered for it stylish set-pieces and general disregard to physics. In fact, during a recent interview with IGN, Just Cause producer Adrian Askarieh likened the nascent film to not only Just Cause 3, but also Universal’s box office juggernaut Fast and Furious.

CBS Films is adapting Deus Ex: Human Revolution for the big screen, and I'm begging them now to not make dubstep part of the experience.
My "old man shaking his fist at the future" stance on wub wub notwithstanding, a Deus Ex movie based on the second game in the series is happening. CBS Films, along with producers Roy Lee and Adrian Askarieh, are looking to bring the series prequel to the big screen after being impressed with the sales response to the game last summer.
Adrian Askarieh has several other game properties in active development for film right now including Just Cause, Kane and Lynch, and another Hitman movie (second tim's the charm, right?). Those projects actually make up the sum total of all of his producing credits to date, while Lee has worked on quite a few big recent titles including How to Train Your Dragon, and quite a few Asian-to-u.

Big-screen video game adaptations is the up-and-coming trend, behind comic book movies (which critics are getting sick of, but too bad! The Dark Knight Rises and The Man of Steel will keep that winch turning for a long time), and the whole “let’s remake everything from the 80′s!” thing. There are plenty of potential franchises on their way, and now we can add the Just Cause game series to the list.

Just Cause is an open world third-person shooter video game which sold over 1 million units on the PC, PS2, and Xbox 360. Variety reports that Eric Eisner's L+E Pictures has bought the rights to turn the Swedish developed video game into a movie. They have retained Michael Ross (Turistas) to write the script and have also signed up Adrian Askarieh to be the producer.
Like Turistas, the movie will be set in a paradisiacal scenery and in the case of Just Cause, a Carribean Tropical Island named "San Esperito". But that's where the similarity ends. Just Cause is a high flying action game loaded with impossible stunts.

I have to admit, I only played the recent "sandbox" videogame Just Cause 2 for a couple of weeks before I gave up -- it was just too damn huge. The property isn't too big for the big screen, though. A feature film is now in development with L + E Pictures (Hamlet 2) and producer Adrian Askarieh, who has experience adapting games to movies (Hitman, upcoming Kane & Lynch, eventual Spy Hunter). Just Cause revolves around missions carried out by a deadly black ops agent...

Video games and comic books are the big hit in Hollywood and it looks like another one has been optioned for the big screen by the same guy who brought us the very cool Hitman movie. (Naked chicks and fights, so ya, it was cool.)Variety has more: Eric Eisner's L+E Pictures has optioned the film rights to Avalanche Studios' videogame franchise "Just Cause," which it will develop with producer Adrian Askarieh, of Prime Universe Prods., before shopping it to the studios. Michael Ross ("Turistas") will pen the script. Property revolves around Rico Rodriguez, aka the Scorpion, a black ops agent who carries out deadly missions for the U.S. government that come in the form of creating chaos and destabilizing rogue nations from within and turning the bad guys against each other. The character's calling card is his grappling hook and penchant for aerial stunts with his unique parachute,...

L+E Pictures has optioned the film rights to the over-the-top spy action video game franchise "Just Cause" reports Variety.
The games follow Rico Rodriguez, aka the Scorpion, a black ops agent who carries out deadly missions for the U.S. government which revolve around destabilising rogue nations from within and turning the bad guys against each other.
The first game in the series was set on the fictional South American tropical island San Esperito, the second around the Indonesian island of Panau. Rodriguez frequently uses both a grappling hook and retractable parachute to perform death-defying stunts that utterly defy the laws of physics.
From hijacking fighter planes in mid-air to a chase/boss battle that takes place on the back of four freshly launched nuclear missiles, the series earned strong reviews for its fun and impressive open world scale.

So apparently Hitman was a success, and I guess it is for a video game-movie if it made more than it cost; can't say I seen it nor care to, but I'd be curious to know if schmoes agree with producer Adrian Askarieh who seems quite proud of it. And of the fact that game shingle Eidos now trusts him with two new titles. And a sequel. And to come home and f*ck their sister, probably. Talking to the Game Daily bunch, Askarieh mentioned being hard at work on adaptations for Just Cause and Kane...

Whether you're a fan of the "Hitman" movie adaptation or not, there's no denying that producer Adrian Askarieh forged a lucrative film based on the assassin-filled video game — and thanks to that success, Askarieh's setting his sights well past Agent 47.
In addition to "Hitman 2," the producer has plans in the works for adaptations of "Just Cause" and "Kane & Lynch." Askarieh provided gaming website Game Daily with a status update on all three of these projects.
"I'm doing 'Just Cause' right now, which I'm doing independently," the producer revealed. "[We're] going to shoot spring of next year because it's being financed independently and we're going to move like the wind on that. 'Just Cause' is probably going to be shot in someplace like Europe or Puerto Rico, or a combination of the two."
As for who would play the lead role of Scorpion, Askarieh said, "Obviously, we...
