Director Brian Trenchard-Smith has said of this documentary at 'The Daily Grindhouse' website: ''I had arranged to make a documentary about him [Bruce Lee] and I was going to use that to pitch the movie to him but that did not come to pass, because while I was in flight to Hong Kong with my camera crew, Bruce tragically died. So I made a tribute to him called 'The World of Kung Fu' and then a follow-up called 'Kung Fu Killers'.''
This television documentary was a TV ratings success in Australia and the following year prompted a sequel 'Kung Fu Killers' (1974) (TV). The two docos were broadcast on different Australian television networks.
This film's director Brian Trenchard-Smith said of this doco in his 2015 article, 'Brian Trenchard-Smith (The Man From Hong Kong) Talks His Ill-Fated Trip to Meet Bruce Lee, and the Legacy of the Dragon' - : ''Despite his grief and all he was dealing with, Raymond Chow found the time to give me an interview, as did Run Run Shaw, Andre Morgan, and many others. So I ended up making a tribute to Bruce Lee, which played on Australian television several months later. I also published two editions of a magazine, 'The World Of Kung Fu'.''
This documentary about Bruce Lee was already scheduled when the actor passed away and as such was made and first released straight the death of Bruce Lee.
This film is described by the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia as a ''one hour documentary in homage to Bruce Lee, Kung-Fu artist, who starred in several feature films.''
