Brent Montgomery’s Wheelhouse has some new investors.
The company, which includes production companies including Campfire and Spoke Studios as well as partnerships with Jimmy Kimmel’s Kimmelot and David Chang’s Majordomo Media, has secured investment from Alignment Growth, the investment vehicle from Jeff Bewkes and Kevin Tsujihara.
Alignment Growth, which raised $360M to put into media and entertainment companies last year, has taken a minority stake in Wheelhouse.
The investment will allow Wheelhouse to make acquisitions and attract talent. It marks Wheelhouse’s first outside capital raise since Mongtomery, who sold 80% of Pawn Stars producer Leftfield Entertainment to ITV for $360M in 2014, founded in 2018.
Bewkes, who was formerly CEO and Chairman of the Board at Time Warner, will join Wheelhouse’s Board of Directors.

On the East Coast, all eyes are on Donald Trump and his criminal trial over alleged hush-money payments made to porn actress Stormy Daniels and others.
And on the West Coast, another hearing is happening. Yet it, too, involves a beautiful, blond woman and a charismatic showman with a penchant for pulling the wool over people’s eyes.
But this tribunal is unfolding within the insular walls of the Magic Castle — the legendary private club for magicians set inside a foreboding Victorian mansion, formerly a private residence, perched upon a Hollywood hilltop and established in 1963.
The defendant is Murray the Magician, aka Murray Sawchuck, a veteran stage illusionist and comedian who for years has held a residency at the Tropicana in Las Vegas. (The Tropicana shuttered April 2 and is expected to be demolished later this year — but Murray will be touring the world with his act until he installs himself...

It has been going from bad to worse for The History Channel’s megahit reality television show, American Pickers. There has been an unannounced schedule change for the hit show. Whatever is worse than “worse” may be exactly what is happening to the show. In fact, this may be the worst thing that has happened to American Pickers ever.
The Schedule Change
The normal time slot for American Pickers is Wednesdays at 9 pm Est. Not this week though. Another show has replaced The History Channel’s megahit reality television show. Something else will be airing in its place this week.
This could be bad news, really bad news, for the show and all its fans. The ratings have been dropping for quite a while now. It all started when Frank Fritz was fired by The History Channel. Now, the ratings are even lower than ever before.

Dana White was not always the CEO and president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He started running boxercise gyms in Boston with Golden Gloves champion Peter Welch. He moved to Las Vegas in the 1990s. In addition to running boxercise gyms, he also began training jiu-jitsu under the tutorship of John Lewis.
When White found out that the owner of the former parent company which owned UFC was interested in selling the company, he convinced Lorenzo Fertitta and his brother to invest in the company. Streaming series premieres are slowing down as the platforms move away from unscripted content from streamers. The share of unscripted streaming original shows has fallen each quarter since Q4 2021, when 26% of all streaming original shows were unscripted series.
Two factors are behind this shift. The peak pandemic years of 2020-21 saw a boom in streamers releasing new unscripted shows. Q4 2021 was the high water mark when 37.4% of streaming shows that premiered that quarter were unscripted.
But from 2022 onward there has been a transition back to more scripted content from streamers. The fourth quarter of 2023 punctuated the change. Fewer than 10% of new streaming series to premiere last quarter were unscripted — a record low in the past three years.
For most streamers this pivot looks like a smart move. Across major SVODs, the share of demand for unscripted shows on-platform underperforms the share of catalog that these shows make up. Slowing down...

August has arrived, and with it, the last full month of summer-worthy shows and flicks, at least for 2023. From all the summer sensations to food weather, carnival fun and, of course, the lack of school, the streamer’s film slate will update with some appropriate flicks like “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2,” “Eat Pray Love,” “Despicable Me” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” respectively.
If you’re one of those who senses the change in the air as soon as the salty summer heat gives way to crisp fall fog, “Heartstopper” Season 2, complete with its cartoon drawings of leaves, waits for you starting August 3. “The Lincoln Lawyer: Season 2 Part 2” concludes the two-part followup to the legal drama starring Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. “Heart of Stone,” a big tentpole film starring Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan, promises action-lovers a good time.

With its list of new releases for August 2023, Netflix is giving the anime world another shot.
No, we’re not talking about the streamer’s usual anime offerings – which are present this month in the form of Ragnarok season 3 (Aug. 24) and other titles – we’re talking about Netflix’s attempt to make live-action anime adaptations a thing. Following the relative failure of its Cowboy Bebop remake, Netflix is giving it another go, this time with arguably an even bigger anime classic. One Piece will premiere on Aug. 31. Telling the story of beloved straw hat wearing pirate Monkey D. Luffy, this adaptation will attempt to do original creator Eiichiro Oda and his many fans proud.

I know I implied as much last month, but it’s looking pretty grim out there. There’s a lingering heat wave engulfing the greater United States, and it’s not even August. Twitter is coming for our bank accounts (again), while doing its best impression of a porn app. Plus, Aidan has returned — Aidan! Did “And Just Like That” learn nothing from “Sex and the City 2”?! My goodness, people. One of the biggest movies of the summer is about the father of the atomic bomb, and we, as a people, are still running eyes-wide-open into calamities? Just curb global carbon emissions, let us tweet in peace, and stop trying to make Carrie end up with an emotional nincompoop! Come on! It’s not that hard!
But I digress. This August, Netflix is doing its part to ease our path to death’s cool doorstep by releasing one (1) sweet summer rom-com,...

The recent breakout success of Amazon Freevee’s mockumentary “Jury Duty” has shown how Fast services are branching out from the standard licensed fare with popular original content.
