Prepared to be amazed and hooked in.

Warning: Spoilers
I love this. It reminds me of Beauty and the Beast when it gets to about episode 10. It becomes really interesting when they swap body's and she becomes all powerful and he becomes the weak and less controlling master of the Moon Tribe. The servants don't know what has happened. She plays a dangerous game trying to keep her cover pretending to be him.

So what are the seven emotions?

I want to know what they are on here?

Here his father has tortured him to lose all of these emotions but his emotions tree is beginning to bud, grow and put out leaves.

His father executed all those women who taught him to carve, play the zither and played with him.

The dad had a torture room where he tortured the boy.....mentally....like a closet. He begged his father to kill him.

So it was romantic love, brotherly love, parental love. This is what his father was making him let go of.

He was still young when he killed his father. Which was part of his fathers mental training. His father wanted him to do so. He tortured and provoked him until he came to that momentous event.

His childhood memories are coming back and it feels like he is being re-tortured.

In the beginning he is the all powerful entity released from his 30,000 year prison but soon realises that his life is tied up with that weak, very timid and innocent Fairy and also she has only very weak powers. He finds this all very frustrating, especially when they swap bodies. She doesn't want to kill anybody.

They are forced to confront their differences and bring a semblance of order to this union. They must have some cooperation as their link means that is one dies then so does the other. Dongfang Qing Cang must keep the fairy Xiao Lan Hua (Orchid) and himself alive.

As time progresses the emotionless Dongfang Qingcang who killed without mercy slowly warms up to Xiao Lan Hua. She is despite the harsh and difficult journey she encounters, she never loses her true essence, which is her generous and compassionate heart. Xiao Lan Hua is naturally able to bring out the best in people with her unwavering trust. She is just a ray of sunshine. She moves and enters into the stone heart of Dongfang Qingcang and breaks down his barriers as he makes subtle changes in his personality and falls deeply in love with this Fairy Orchid.

He is willing to go through any challenge and test to prove his worth and love for her. Orchid feels the same way........but as she suffers her challenges and test so does he. He believe because of their love bond because they are to be husband and wife they must stay together until death part them. So he feels whatever she feels. So in that way they are truly bonded.

That depiction in the drama is truly awesome. I love it. Cinematology at its best. It shows a play back of their best moments together. This is the sweetest love affair. I have never seen a love so sweet for a long time. It is emotional, touching, poignant, sensitive and tender. His soft gestures towards her reminds me of Wang So

Before I go on any further I want to talk about these two actors Dylan Wang and Yu Shu Xin. I have watched Dylan in Ever Night: Season 2. He was good, but not as great as he is here. He has nailed this part. Wow! Yu She Xia, I didn't know her at all so I looked up her bio. Still didn't know her but she was stunning in this part of Orchid where she had to play several different roles. The chemistry between her and the Devil was unmistakable. Together they were superb. She moved that unshakable demon heart and pierced him to the core with her sweet loveable ways. It was a very challenging part. The romance between Dong Fang Qing Cang and Xiao Lanhua is so pristine and immaculate. I couldn't fault it. The thing is it was different to all of the romances and love stories I had watched before. It had its own beauty and very deep moments of heart touching heart, but not a sexual passion, but a true warmth and understanding of one another.

The there is our second lead Zhang Ling He Chang Heng / Xiao Run. He is as a royal prince, he is kind, considerate, and well-mannered. He dotes on Orchid and has loved her for a long time. I love him best as Xiao Run where he becomes the best friend of Dong Fang Qing Cang without knowing that they are enemies. Their bromance is just so unexpected and fun. As for Chang Heng he is a bit snobbish, up himself and a bit boring along with his other better qualities I already mentioned. He is the War God of the Fairies.

Some where further up I talked about the Cinematology of this drama. It is a stunning masterpiece of gorgeous and artistic visuals with the compare and contrasting of the different Kingdoms your mind was not lost in thinking(where are we?), but there was a certainty of the environment of the realms. Also the contrast of clothing with Orchid and her love. She with the soft flowing pastel gowns and he with his medieval black, silver and gold. From the cloud whales to the pink tree in Arbiter Hall and Cangyan Sea's castle, and Fairy surrounds of icy whiteness. It was truly magnificent for the sense of visual delight.

It starts to get really good at episode 9
mejjmurphy26 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I've watched this show twice. Once by myself, and the second time I forced my significant other to watch too. The beginning episodes are important for exposition. It'll set up all the relationship dynamics and that's when the protagonists start bonding. It is on the slow side though, Orchid's voice is very annoying at the start as she is portraying a naive cutesy fairy and sounds like a child. However, it gets better as the Orchid becomes less naive and grows with experience. I think it starts picking up at episode 9. I wish the graphics were a bit better for the fighting scenes. Because seeing Donfang's hellfire (with better graphics) against the high immortal fairies would've been visually cooler. I like the relationship development and character development in this show. I loved all the scenes in the mortal realm and after. I think the women's costumes were much better than the men's. Only Dongfang, Xunfeng, and Shanque had cool outfits/armor. Changheng's armor looks more comical to me, and the armies' outfits could've been better. But then again, I'm new to Chinese romantic fantasy genre. The settings though were very cool. This show has a lot more depth than a lot of American tv shows that are getting released today. I enjoyed how they had Orchid in the fairy realm at the start, as a hardcore fan of Changheng, and heard of the scary Donfang Qingcang and only knew that the Moon Tribe was full of awful people. And even though she always remains loyal to the fairy realm, she realizes that the Moon Tribe is full of families and good people who want their soldiers home from war but want to be protected from the fairy tribe. She learns as she switches bodies with DQ what it takes to rule a nation that is scared of the fairy realm. That the fairy realm even has assassins that intrude into Moon Tribe territory. It's not just the Moon Tribe who attacks the fairy realm. I just love when she begins to realize it's not all black and white. I like DQ as well. The actor did an amazing job. I've watched other tv shows with him in it and I think this is my favorite. I like how the show touched on the idea of being emotionless and how DQ grew up believing emotions are hindering, but through Orchid learns how they're actually valuable and allows one to experience a more fulfilling life. I love how these characters try to balance duty and their selfish wants, it adds a lot of complexity to the show. I know this is all over the place, but ultimately I think anyone who likes a good romance should watch or just a good story in general.

Beautiful fairy tale
magnoliacream29 August 2022
This Chinese version of Beauty and the Beast is romantic, funny, dreamy, heartwarming and heart-wrenching. The artistic CGI enhances the fantasy feel. I was blown away by the stunning music, beautiful set design and the heartfelt portrayal by the cast.

Dylan Wang nails a challenging role of the heartless and ruthless but inadvertently funny and loveable Supreme Lord of the Moon Tribe, Dongfang Qingcang.

Esther Yu as lowly Fairy Orchid Xiao Lanhua is initially annoying with her high-pitched, whiney, babyish way of talking but she eventually grows on you once you realize Lanhua is really a baby immortal, just 1500 years old compared to Dongfang Qingcang who is more than 30,000 years old. Now, before Xianxia newbies get dismayed at this age difference, it will be noted that Xianxia is a genre that deals with immortality and reincarnation, thus aging happens differently. In any case, Lanhua does grow up, becoming much less whiney and babyish as the drama progresses. However, she retains a baby's innocence and purity of heart, making her one of the most admirable female leads I've encountered in CDramas. Instead of the usual revenge-driven grudge-keeping CDrama characters, Lanhua sees the best in everyone and is quick to forgive and forget. She does not hesitate to come to the rescue of other people, with no thought of her own safety. Her pure heart, kindness and courage melt DFQC's heart, or rather, restore his emotional tree.

Roc Chen's sublime background music, also featured in Royal Nirvana, soars, a fitting accompaniment to the exquisite artistic visuals. The other musical pieces are equally stirring.

In summary, it's a beautiful and powerful drama that dares to make viewers believe in the supremacy of love.

A mind-blowingly great drama! From its aesthetic to storyline.
yinnii23 August 2022
Superb sci-fi drama I've watched recently! It delicately, ingeniously, and diligently interpret the prominent beauty of the ancient Oriental. As an Overseas Chinese, it allows me to see the great virtue and morals from the interactions/chemistry between characters. It was mind-blowingly great! Not to mention the editing of it is extraordinarily aesthetic! In my opinion, the editing of this show is comparable to the Hollywood movie. You will regret it if you don't give it a shot 😉

Wasn't going to watch it...
jutubesunday15 September 2022
I tend to like fairytales stuff so I clicked on this title one night and watched 10 minutes into the drama. I thought to myself, the casts look great but I thought Dongfang Qingcang wasn't as alluring as I had hope where as Chang Heng was great looking. Orchid was also spot on with her character's description. So I stopped watching 10 minutes in. A week later I ran out of things to watch so I was reading some reviews online and this drama came up. Many people loved it. So I decided to go back and give it another shot. I am glad I did. The character that I wasn't satisfied with the most Dongfang Qingcang played by Dylan Wang became my favorite character in the drama. I then understood why Dylan was chosen for this role. His furrow of the eyebrows and glaring eyes were enticing. Overall, I liked it a lot more than I thought and I really enjoyed watching it. I do think the storyline is great but still quite a lot of flaws especially some ending episodes. If only base on satisfaction I would give this drama an 8 for it didn't have a tragic, unhappy ending but it did miss quite a lot of important connective pieces to really round up the whole story. I did however gave it a 10/10 because of Dongfang Qingcang played by Dylan Wang. He's perfect for the role.

Masterpiece of century
justinalanbridges21 December 2022
I find myself watching this over and over again. The characters were very well played and the storyline well executed. The special effects were my favorite part. It's amazing to have so many scenes cause you to feel the emotions through the screen. The female lead was annoying but it made sense when you watch it. Her character development throughout the series is amazing. Have patience and understand their character is meant to be played that way. Moon Supreme falling in love with Orchid was a beautiful love story. I wish it didn't have to end so short. I wanted to see how he was able to return and what their life is like after reuniting. It left you wanting more from the story. You HAVE to watch it to understand. It's worth it!!!

Top notched storytelling
ooxtin20 November 2022
This drama is so good. I haven't felt this feeling since watching Korean drama Goblin. The director know how to tell a good story. He remember never to leave out any details, he always go back to it and explain it afterwards for the viewers to understand so you never have to feel left out. The chemistry between the two leads is good. The soundtrack is superb. Visually is stunning to watch. This drama kind of remind me of beauty and the beast, in terms of describing the relationships between the male and female leads. The characters development overall is good. Overall is a masterpiece. I'll say is worth checking it out if you're into fantasy/romance.

Love can melt the coldest heart! Hauntingly Beautiful Tale!
bellbellbear23 September 2022
This series melt my heart by their unconditional love, while watching this series, my emotions going like Rollercoaster, funny, tears, sadness, Esther and Dylan Wang they have amazing chemistry , Dylan Wang is born to play the invincible cold heart, Moon Supreme, a Dark Lord has been sealed for 30000 years the most powerful demon of the three realms finally out into the world after being jailed up for 30,000 years and immediately being stuck in a low ranked fairy's body. The Story started as a Romantic Comedy.

The romance is captivating , the story is classic forbidden love ( Moon Tribe vs Fairy Tribe) but the way it incorporated with fantasy is so refreshing and engaging, the acting skills for all the cast is top tier, Dylan Wang the main lead as Moon Supreme , his charm is a Bomb on screen, the devilishly handsome actor caught your eye in every shot. He is regal, cold, majestic when we first meet Dong Fang Qing Cang, and we discover his soft, giddy and happy side when he meets the love of his life. We see his jealousy, anger, uncertainty and deep sadness as the story progresses. The chemistry with Esther Yu is amazing that make the whole love story believable which touch your heart. The sets , costume is insanely beautiful which suit the character very well. I love every piece of Moon Supreme's costume. This is a drama mixed with comedy , sadness as the story develop. Both actors did very well in the body swap part which make me laugh my head off. Each character has a well develop story and they are all nicely told. The Main theme is What is Love ? Love can melt the coldest heart of a devil, the script and story line is so well written, the writing is impeccable. Scriptwriters understand what makes good comedy, and that so much comedy comes from pain, Something your laughing over in the earlier episodes will turn its back on you and stab you with emotion and pain.

This is the best Xianxia Drama I have watch so far, if you only choose one drama to watch, this is the one you should !

Amazing Filming, Acting and Storyline
jfwmpk19 October 2022
It's one of those shows that you hope will never end while you lose yourself binge watching it. I was drawn in right away. Some have called this show cheesy and that the main girl was annoying... but to each their own. I thought all of the actors were extremely talented in their overall abilities, and emotions they displayed throughout the show. Standing ovation for certain. The storyline wasn't as predictable as I expected and left me wanting to keep watching instead of going to sleep at a normal hour. If you like these kind of shows, you won't be disappointed! Hands down my favorite show I've watched in 2022.

Hey!
quotation-030906 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
@phoenixfrost the director told esther to act as a 510year old kid since orchid is only 1500 yo unlike dfqc who is 30000 yo. That the reason behind. Dilbara only acts as a cute person in that series not as a 510year old kid. Dilbara is already 30for her to act as a 10yo

Love Between Fairy and Devil is a xianxia drama, which narrates the story of forbidden love between a devil and a fairy. The drama has everything a xianxia drama has: forbidden love reincarnation a cold male lead falling in love with the warm and bubbly female lead making it his only weakness female lead with hidden identity and more. But what makes this drama stands out from other xianxia drama is that it has a VERY BEAUTIFUL visual sequence graphics and cinematography. Love Between Fairy and Devil successfully brought the fairy element into their drama and I think the drama has raised the standard high for the next xianxia drama.

The narrative of Love Between Fairy and Devil is straightforward about a fairy unaccidentally saving the demon lord and they gradually fell in love. The screenwriter managed to write a very cohesive and compelling story also with a coherent storyline making it easy for the audience to understand. The drama also manages to seamlessly combine comedy romance also angst in the latter part. Every character in the drama also has their own background story with their own personal motive each character is there not only for the sake of getting the male and female lead together nor just to make the drama plot more lively but each character is there making their own decision which gradually leads and builds up to the whole drama plot.

What makes Love Between Fairy and Devil distinctive from other xianxia is definitely its art department and how well they articulate it. The drama manages to articulate the vision of the fantasy world and everything that comes with it. It is beautifully and enchantingly portrayed that you would actually believe the presence of such world where there are pink skies with whales a pavilion full of flowers a castle on top of a hill and more. It has been a while since there is such beautiful and mesmerizing graphics in a drama. You can see that the drama spends most of its budget on its art department starting from costumes CGI graphics more IQIYI also offers the drama in 4k quality

Firstly the drama costumes are very beautiful the costume department puts a lot of thought and effort into their costume. Everyone outfit is fitting to their character and demeanour. DongFang QingCangs outfit is mostly black but also with a hint of gold showing his sovereignty as the moon supreme. Xiao Lan Huas outfit is in bright pastel colours fitting with her character and personality as a fairy with a bright and bubbly personality. Other than the main characters the side characters also have very pretty costumes such as Chang Hengs war costume. Moreover the drama also has very beautiful headpieces especially for the male characters which are rarely seen in other historical dramas.

Secondly the graphics and CGI of each realm location and power special effects are rendered so smooth that it resulted in an ethereal and mind-blowing result. Such as DongFang QingCang's hell flame when he summoned the dragon the arbiter hall and more. The drama is meticulous in every aspect from its colour palette visual art CGI and lighting everything is well thought. I especially love the scene where Rong Hao and Chang Heng entered the painting they really ook like they're in a painting they look 2d which beautifully reflects the beauty of Chinas culture.

Thirdly I also love how the drama sets a certain persona and design for each tribe and realm meticulously. For instance in the fairy realm the gods use bright and light outfits and headpieces with overexposure to the lighting. The fairy realm has a very heavy element of the Chinese culture, meanwhile, the demon moon realm has a hint of medieval elements in its location, outfits and more. The drama team also paid attention to those small actorsextras like the guards their outfit is not sloppy. It is fitting to the overall persona they set. Such as the moon palace guards has dark and big outfit which looks intricate.

Loved this show!
urpangurun_fuellas31 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Yes, the female lead is annoying. She is supposed to be innocent and cute, and it hilarious whenever they switch bodies.

Everything about this series is beautiful! The sets, music, background and the clothes! It's a beautiful piece of art that has a cute love story.

Spoiler ish: I do wish it was maybe one episode longer. We got a happy ending, but it didn't show much and it would have been cute to see more of everyone post climactic drama with a definitive happy ending for them all.

Overall I will definitely watch this series probably a few more times. I hope it makes it to a more popular streaming service in America so I can make my family watch it too.

Great Love Story
helenchrysant22 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was a real surprise for me! I didn't expect it to be sooo good! Dylan Wang's acting has come a long way and the role of Dongfang Qingcang was perfect for him. He plays the powerful, merciless, emotionless Moon Supreme in such an elegant way that it's hard to keep your eyes off him.

The development of the leads love story is one of the best I've seen yet.

He story is good and it's pretty unique combining elements from other fantasy things to make up the "curse".

The drama soundtrack artworks is STUNNING.

The soundtracks artwork are paintings of their character with very beautiful scenery

While waiting for new episodes I found myself rewatching the already aired ones because I was having trouble tearing myself away. It'll be a definite rewatch for me and I highly recommend this one especially if you're looking for fantasy and a great love story.

So good, that you will want more
mkskelton22 February 2023
I finished rewatching this series for a second time.

Dylan wang is flawless in his performance. He has such a charismatic presence. Netflix has brought many interesting shows outside of American TV to my feed that I appreciate since American tv has been pretty boring for a while. There are not many actors I feel Interested in following their career., Other than Henry Cavill. His biggest appeal is his personality being, he is a self proclaimed nerd. I don't know much about Dylan wang but seems like many Asian actors are more fun and less entitled than many American actors.

Dylan wangs performance feels closely to Henry cavill in the Witcher. He demonstrates strength but also flexibility. A dynamic performance that kept me watching. I decided to watch meteor garden after watching love between fairy and devil. I really enjoyed his part, but really all the male leads were fantastic. He definitely grew as an actor from each role. His annoyance look is by far my favorite from any actor I've watched. He can look so annoyed but also concerned. When he smiles, it's infectious and adorable. He's very believable as a ML. I'm hopeful to see him in more roles. The FL in this I felt like did a great job as well. The swapping of roles each was great. I didn't love the high pitch voice but she was sweet and made the change easier to separate. My biggest gripe is that Netflix didn't add in the extra episodes after the finale that is available to other networks. This show is a must watch. The storyline never felt boring. So much happened and I wish we had just a little more to end the series. Wish they had a season 2 to keep it going but that seems unlikely. Great show and definitely one to rewatch.

BEAT CDRAMA EVER!
jentn-910558 December 2022
Best Chinese drama ever! The cast, storyline, OST, everything about this drama has me coming back to rewatch it over and over again. It was slow starting out but after the first 3 episodes I was completely hooked. I feel in love with the leads and it was amazing watching their love story unfold and their character develop. Dylan Wang and Esther Yu really brought their character to life and. Their chemistry is insane on and off screen. I laughed, I cried, I was in awe. I felt all the emotions. It took me months to move on from this drama and I don't even think I have. I would recommend this drama anyone! 10/10 hands down!!

Beautiful story
deborahrc6 April 2023
Wonderful love story! Dylan Wang is a wonderful actor who can say so much with his eyes. Reminds me of Johnny Depp! Except he has an incredible smile! Very, very handsome! Bright future! All the co stars were great in this program.

I can understand why he was a successful model. I have seen him in three Netflix programs so far and I look forward to much more from him. I LOVED him in Meteor Garden, which I have watched three times. That had a great cast. All of the F4 were great! The violinist had the sweetest smile ever. I am of Swedish descent and I'm 72, but I am not dead! Wow! Good looking cast members!

I love the Asian programs so much more than the American ones. Less cursing, less blood and guts violence.

If you only ever watch one xianxia Cdrama, make it this one
sandirab20 September 2022
One of the most approachable of this genre. At 32 episodes, it's a breeze. These types of cdramas typically have many more episodes.

The portrayal of Immortals and demons has never looked so good. The redemptive power of love features strongly throughout the drama. The story is unabashedly about love overcoming everything, even fate.

The costumes and accessories are amazing and thoughtful. There is a story and a message to every item worn or piece of clothing. The characters may be plentiful but memorable once you really get into the story. The two leads gives a performance full of chemistry and flair.

Truly one of the most engaging cdramas of 2022.

Top 5 Xianxia series. Beautiful from beginning to end.
SylviaLB12 September 2022
This was a beautifully-written series which is a must watch if you like Xianxia series.

You can see amazing character developments throughout this series and the series hooks you from episode 1. What makes it stand out from other Xianxia is that there is no jealous love triangle or mother-in-law from hell type plots which is really refreshing to see, as it focuses more on the relationships of the characters. The graphics were gorgeous throughout and I personally think it is in the same league as series including Ashes of Love in regards to the relationship plot of the ML and FL.

If I am looking at any negatives I would say that the ending felt a bit too rushed and I think the series was a bit too short where they could have looked at other characters' story plots more as I feel some plots were cut too short. However, I guess we just have to hope for a season two as I would love to watch more of the series!!

The female lead is really annoying
gir-whyistherebaconinthe11 September 2022
I was really looking forward to watching this since I heard it would have a beauty and the beast feel. I like sweet and naive characters but she is too much. She uses a pouty child voice almost constantly. I thought the series was short so I thought I could just get it over with since the story could be worth it. Realizing how long it is, I had to quit after almost finishing episode 8. Her actions, mannerisms, and voice ruin the whole show for me. If you watch some of the show and you find her cute to watch then I assume you can enjoy the whole show. If she's annoying to you, I recommend watching A Korean Odyssey instead or something since that still has some of the same story vibes (villain having to protect her even though he wants to kill her but they ultimately fall in love) but better characters.

Best costumes ever
isabellatallica28 January 2023
You will fall I love with the whole series, if you just love a little bit fantasy. For the ones who love fantasy this is one of most epic costume series ever made. One can feel the love for details, the effort to make the character look authentic. I have never seen better elven costumes. The fact that they skipped pointy ears but also a plus. Simply not needed as the rest of the costume is already perfect.

The main cast was a great choice. They play their roles with passion. The soundtrack of the series will stay in your mind. It matches the already perfect show. I listened to it many many times after I finished the series. I cannot praise enough the setting, the details of this show. The lighting, the filming, the romantic sceneries. Everyone should watch it. It has also a lot of moral in the storyline. They produced definitely a series which is above Hollywood standard. I hope it wins many awards so that the writers and crafters get credit for their hard work. It's what they deserve. <3.

I can't stop watching this
mcmugged5 February 2023
I knew this Chinese drama had a lot of good reviews, so I have had it in my watchlist on Netflix for about a year. I finally decided to give it a shot.

When I had come to episode 15, I decided to go back and rewatch episode 1 and 2 and I am glad I did. The first 2 episodes are hard to figure out what is going on when you first start watching, but it does lay out the foundation of this tale. By rewatching the first 2 episodes after having seen 15 episodes, a lot of things made more sense to me.

I didn't get hooked on this drama until about episode 4. I am glad I stuck it out. Dylan Wang is perfect for his role as Moon Supreme Lord. I had seen him in Meteor Garden a couple of years ago. I think he is a pretty good actor. He has a lot of magnetism.

Gorgeous!
phoenixfrosty14 September 2022
Cang Lan Jue, otherwise known as Love Between Fairy And Devil, is gorgeous. From the cast, music, sets, costumes and cinematography to the story about the three realms - fairies/immortals, moon tribe and mortal - this is aesthetically pleasing. You could tell that the artists had a vision for how the worlds should look like and painstakingly built those worlds to make their vision come alive. I love seeing the products of such dedicated artists whose chief driving force is their art.

The story deals with the power struggle between the immortals and the moon tribe. The love story between a lowly fairy in the immortal realm and the powerful leader of the moon tribe is exceptionally enchanting, filled with twists and turns, told with just the right blend of romance, comedy, drama and action. One of my favorite parts is how, at the end, the realms team up against the real villain and peace reigns when everyone lets love rule.

The reason I did not rate this a 10? How could the director, or whoever made the decision, think that baby talk, whining and a pouty facial expression would work for a female lead? Dilraba Dilmurat successfully made baby talk cute in Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms, but I think it was because she was smiling sweetly, even naughtily, while doing it. Furthermore, she was not the female lead. Fairy Orchid's baby talk + whine + pout in Cang Lan Jue simply screamed fake, bratty and terribly annoying. If not for Dylan Wang, who plays male lead Moon Supreme Dongfang Qingcang, I would have dropped this. But I'm glad I didn't. Countless goodies in the drama, especially Dylan Wang's visual and acting as well as the background music, set artistry and the intriguing story, somehow stretched my tolerance. Anyway, Fairy Orchid (Esther Yu) shed her annoying behavior later on and over-all could not stop this series from becoming outstanding.

I'm noticing some reviews that expressed disappointment at the series end. Please note that the series has 36 episodes, not 24.

Warning: Spoilers
I will have to say this is one of best if not the best show that I have watch. I love the plot and the character's development throughout the show. It will definitely make you cry towards the end because one of the main characters. Do die (it's not over for them) so do knock this off you to watch list yet. To me I will say this is one of those dramas that you will want to keep watching over and over because it is just that good, I will for sure be watching this again I will wait so. I forget what happens but to anyone that is looking for their next or first. Chinese drama to watch this is definitely a good pick. I would recommend to anyone who likes fantasy with a side of comedy/drama and romance.

Very beautiful beginning to end... but

It was beauty that tamed the beast.

In the land of Chinese fantasy and myth the old story repeats itself. The innocent and lovely Orchid (played by the charming Esther Yu) Places the worst of the worst under her spell, literally, and for the first time in his life Dongfang Qingcang experiences emotions and starts caring for this little flower.

The visuals are gorgeous, costumes stunning and even the CGI was pretty good. Plot wise it's a very romantic show with a lot of touching moments.

With all this praise though I feel the need to address the elephant in the room.

Dylan Wang nailed his character, playing him as the jaded soulless devil that has reached the peak of his profession.

Esther Yu in contrast played her character as the innocent and VERY young little debutante.

Meaning that the relationship on screen is an older man, early 50s, and his teenager wife. It doesn't help that the first dozen or so episodes are about her preparing for her finales either!

This is saved by the actors being closer in age to each other but them harping on Orchid being a baby 1,500 year old just makes it seem like she's 15 with an older man (over 30,000 years old) read over 30 but really over 40 interested in her.
