Inner Sanctum Mysteries 1941 to 1953

Watched so far.

Calling Dr. Death 1943. Doctor Mark Steele (as Lon Chaney) married beauty. Now he realizes his mistake when she runs around and spends his money.

"...To share my substance with Him with purity and holiness I pass my life and practice my art." - Hippocrates.

On Saturday night he cannot take it anymore and goes for a drive; he wakes up Monday morning and cannot remember a thing. Yep, his wife has been vindictively dispatched, and his button found on the spot.

A suspect has been caught. Will the Dr. Confess, or will the police have to trick it out of him?

Watch as the mystery unfolds and if the story holds true it is always the last person you suspect. Yes, there is a butler.

----------------------

Weird Woman 1944. A variation of Conjure Wife by Fritz Lieber that became a movie "Burn, Witch, Burn" (1962.)

Both movies have the main character named Norman as does the book. Some characters have the same last name.

Professor Norman Reed (as Lon Chaney) on a visit to a South Sea Island meets and marries the daughter of his old professor. The old professor died, and the girl was brought up by a native spiritual leader.

He takes her back to the college he teaches at and becomes a great success with everyone except the woman he jilted.

Being logical and not a promoter of magic, finds his wife to be a conjurer and corrects her bad habits.

You can guess what will happen next. The ending is a tad different than Fritz's book. Watch and see.

---------------------------

Dead Man's Eyes 1944

I was thinking of a psychological thriller like "Hands of the Strangler" in 1960.

Turns out that the movie is a straightforward who-dun-it; the blind man must ferret out the murderer before he is dispatched for the deed.

There are also several love triangles to convolute the search.

--------------------

The Frozen Ghost 1944.

Stage mentalist Gregor the Great (Lon Chaney) uses his hypnotic eyes to will a man to his death. Or at least we think so but not the police.

So, what do the police know when he does it again with a friend while staying at a wax museum?

Is he crazy?

Is this for real?

Or is there a mysterious nefarious plot?

We watch as there is an attempt to uncover the truth.

-----------------

Strange confession 1945.

Where would we be without the FDA?

Jeff (as Lon Chaney) is a scientist who is working on a universal cure for various diseases including influenza.

Graham (J. Carrol Naish) is his unscrupulous employer who cuts corners on drug production; that's not all. He also covets Jeff's wife Mary (Brenda Joyce.)

It looks like a case of good versus evil. But please be patient and there is a complete confession.

--------------------------- Pillow of Death 1945.

Vivian Fletcher (Victoria Horne) suspects that her husband Wayne Fletcher (Lon Chaney) is having an affair with Donna Kincaid (Brenda Joyce.) Seems Vivian has been dispatched and the police have zeroed in on Wayne because everyone knows he had motive, means, and opportunity. But wait there is a weird psychic that seems just as suspicious. But wait, Vivian has an old boyfriend creeping around. O. K., so the house is full of suspicious relatives.

How is Wayne going to prove he is innocent? Set traps? Or perhaps ask Vivian herself?

Meantime relatives/suspects are being dispatched one by one.

This is a lot of fun old dark house mystery.
