Superb opening episode, the best establishment to a story I have seen for a long time. From the shocking croc-attack opening scene through to the closing credits this moves along at a high tempo, beautifully outlining the setting and characters with an excellent example of 'showing not telling'. There is minimal exposition all naturally woven into realistic dialogue.
We meet Amanda (a superb performance from Nicole Chamoun) and we discover she is an intelligent, resourceful, social-outlier. She has weaknesses - she is rash and jumps to conclusions, a little aggressive with a dark skeleton in her past. Amanda teams up with Ted (Thomas Jane), a reticent ex-cop with detective street-smarts who is running/hiding from his past. Although he is empathetic, he has a chip on his shoulder which is perhaps justified by the dark skeleton in his past.
These are an odd couple, yet feel natural together a little like a bickering father/daughter; I love them both already.
