Local actress and filmmaker Vanessa Roman presents her years-in-the-making feature debut The Importance Of Doubting Tom, a romantic screwball comedy set against the backdrop of a dart league. It tells the story of Gwen, who is shaken and confused by a recent breakup from the guy she thought was the one, but something doesn’t seem right. In searching for the truth, mixed identities, comic hijinks, and lover’s games ensue in this. Roman based her original script both on the classic Oscar Wilde play, The Importance of Being Earnest and on her experience playing darts at St. Louis’ own Blueberry Hill, which is where she met her husband John.

It’s always exciting when there’s a new feature film being shot in St. Louis! We Are Movie Geeks was recently on the set of The Importance Of Doubting Tom, a romantic comedy set in the world of dart throwing where the “competitions play out echoing and mirroring the games that lovers play”. It’s loosely based on the classic Oscar Wilde play, The Importance of Being Earnest.
The Importance Of Doubting Tom is written and directed by Vanessa Roman, who has been actively working in the local theater and film industry for 15 years. Her first film, Play Dead, won Best Horror Short and Best Juvenile Actress at The St. Louis Filmmaker’s Showcase and her second, The Inheritance won Best Experimental film at the Toronto Female Eye Film Festival.

In the wake of “Captain America: The Winter Solider,” HitFix speculated on future Marvel movies based on the information in the film. Some of those educated guesses have come to pass, some are still up in the air, and none of them have been proven (completely) false. Buoyed by this, I’m taking the plunge again with “Avengers: Age of Ultron” because by golly this movie was Packed with future story threads just waiting to be followed down the rabbit hole of comic book lore. Warning: Spoilers For “Age Of Ultron” And Possibly Future Marvel Movies Beyond This Point. I Am Not Joking. #1: Introducing Dr. Helen Cho could mean the Greek gods are on their way to the McU. Image Credit: Marvel Entertainment Back when I first speculated on who Claudia Kim was playing, Dr. Helen Cho didn’t even register as an option. And why would she?...

"Glee" star Cory Monteith was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room Saturday (July 13) at the age of 31. While police and the coroner's office investigate Monteith's death, many of his castmates, "Glee" crew and celebrity friends share their emotional reactions via Twitter.
Here are some of the many Twitter responses as of Saturday morning. So far, there is no word from Monteith's longtime girlfriend and co-star Lea Michele, who publicly stood by her man during his final rehab stint.
Taylor Swift: "Speechless. And for the worst reason."
Mark Salling: "no"
"Glee" (official Twitter): "We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones."

It’s Smash as you’ve never seen it before.
What if Broadway vets Jeremy Jordan (Newsies) and Jonathan Groff (Spring Awakening) had been vying to play Marilyn Monroe on the first season of the Broadway-set NBC drama instead of Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty? Well, alternate-universe shippers can rejoice! On Monday, Jordan and Groff belted out a gender-bent version of the show’s signature ballad, “Let Me Be Your Star,” at a benefit for the Off Broadway’s McC Theater (whose current production, Really Really, stars Girls’ Zosia Mamet and Parenthood’s Matt Lauria).

EW takes you through the 10 best and 5 worst television episodes of 2012. See them all below!
The Best
1. Game of Thrones, ”Blackwater” — May 27, HBO
Season 2′s climactic Battle of the Blackwater wins because HBO allowed producers the time and cash to stage a massive land-and-sea confrontation. Thus, this was an episode of rousing heroism, chilling cowardice, gory action, and one giant green explosion that went ”Fooooom!” The most ingenious part? It made us care about the warriors on both sides. Staging that battle in viewers’ hearts was the episode’s most successful wartime victory of all. –James Hibberd
2. Homeland, ”New Car Smell” – Oct.

After its first season wrapped, Smash — a flashy Broadway spectacle that drew rapturous reviews for its first few episodes, then, um, less rapturous reviews as the show went on — was treated to some major revamping. (Cue Dreamgirls’ “I Am Changing.”) Showrunner Theresa Rebeck was replaced by Gossip Girl executive producer Josh Safran; characters including Terrible Ellis and Once-Dreamy Dev were given the boot; there was talk of improved serialized storytelling and less emphasis on the dreary subplots that once dragged the show down.
Have all those alterations led to a Smash that’ll truly sizzle in season 2? It’s tough to tell from this super-sized,...

This one is called simply, I Am, and it seems to be picking up where Morgan Freeman left off; specifically a black actor playing what, for all intents and purposes, appears to be God… the big guy upstairs (or the idea of God, or a God-like character anyway).
The synopsis reads: A desperate heiress… A beautiful reporter… A vengeful detective… A charismatic district attorney…. In modern-day Los Angeles, all of their lives will intersect, leading to profound choices that test each character’s morality. With guidance from a mysterious stranger, these lost souls desperately search for answers.
It’s obviously aimed at the religious crowd (a group I’m not a member of, but maybe you are), with its direct-to-church release strategy, courtesy of 20th Century Fox. That’s right, I said direct-to-church. This month, 20th Century Fox is collaborating with churches literally all over the...
