- A double elimination brought twice the fear and anxiety on Tuesday night's "Dancing with the Stars" results show.
After a night that saw the show's fifth new top scoring couple of the season -- Joanna & Derek -- the dance-off was going to make a comeback before the final decision on who'd be going home.
But first, Taylor Swift stopped by to perform "Jump Then Fall" from the Platinum Edition of her album "Fearless." Taylor returned later to perform her hit single, "Love Story."
To the highlights: A gimmicky jitterbug from Mya & Dmitry left Len Goodman wanting more. Melissa & Mark's waltz fell flat, in Bruno's opinion. Kelly & Louis' jitterbug was seen as too safe and Len was disappointed. Louie dropped his partner Chelsie -- twice. Donny & Kym's jitterbug was another solid performance that kept them squarely among the competitors.
Mark & Lacey's high-octane jitterbug had Carrie Ann dancing. Aaron & Karina's waltz earned him some praise and a 9 from Len, who he called a father figure. Michael & Anna's waltz also earned some kind words from Len, which Michael appreciated. Joanna & Derek's waltz left Bruno delighted as he called it beautiful and weightless.
The show's first-ever dance marathon resulted in Joanna & Derek standing last and earning the top spot for the night.
To the results: The first couple safe this week was Joanna & Derek, followed by Mark & Lacey. The next two couples to get good news were Donny & Kym and Aaron & Karina.
Be our guest: Tiempo Libre paid a visit to perform "Tu Conga Bach" from their album "Bach in Havana."
The stars pick the clothes: A fun little feature showed the stars picking costumes for their pro partners for next week's dances. The highlight: Joanna asking, "How many rhinestones can you fit on a Speedo?"
Back to the results: The next couple safe for another week was Mya & Dmitry. Then, Kelly & Louis were saved on Kelly's birthday.
Louie & Chelsie, Michael & Anna and Melissa & Mark were the bottom three. One of them would go home immediately and the other two would dance off to see who'd stay and who would go.
After a little feature package in which Nadia Comaneci, Greg Louganis and Bill Walton talked about what it takes to attain perfection in competition, host Tom Bergeron announced that the first couple bounced was Melissa & Mark, who looked stunned. Melissa was bummed because her husband was planning to come watch her dance next week, but she'd be going home to him and their family instead.
The dance-off: Michael & Anna chose to dance the samba to save themselves. Len said Michael had "really come alive" the last couple of weeks and said the dance was "very enjoyable." Bruno enjoyed watching Michael let it all hang out at the end. Carrie Ann said Michael did well on the personality part of the dance, but the performance was questionable.
Louie & Chelsie decided to do the jive for the dance-off, rather than the Argentine tango, which Louie actually performed better. It was a high-energy bit that brought the crowd to its feet. Bruno said Louie did the jive was nice and complete and had a lot of content in a short amount of time. Carrie Ann said she was a little disappointed and expected more out of the knock-out dances. Len agreed, but said the dance was sharp and clean. He pointed out a problem with a pivot, but "overall it was well done."
Bruno said both couples did a great job, making it difficult to choose. He said that "one couple had the edge," saying he wanted to save Louie & Chelsie.
Len said he wanted to save Michael & Anna, leaving the decision up to Carrie Ann.
Carrie Ann said she had to judge on the knock-out dance, saying, "for me it was clear, the couple I want to save is Michael & Anna."
With that, Louie & Chelsie were eliminated. Louie kept his smile on his face and did a twisting backflip off the stage for his parting words.
