In order to set the movie in a small mountain town scenery, some scenes were shot months and kilometers apart. For example, the flashback scene between Laura and James where he offers her the necklace was shot almost a year apart and in different parts of France. James' part in the crew's very flat hometown, and Laura's one in the French Pyrénées.
One of the most challenging moments during production was probably when Charly, the main performer, had to play five characters over a single day of shooting. The three scenes had to be meticulously thought out with the editing in mind according to the various split screens while also navigating the shifts of natural daylight and multiple makeup, costumes and contacts changes. The duo released a video on their Youtube Channel recounting this intense day.
To shoot the final scene of their film, the team drove far in the mountains to a location they had scouted a year before. Where they expected to find snow to create the heavenly feels of the ending, it was to their greatest joy when they actually discovered that the lake was still frozen from winter. They managed to shoot the scene with its magic scenery and the next day after filming, all of the ice had melted.
One of Charly's goals with this story was to explore Laura's psyche and her vision of freedom. It was depicted in the epic mid-story scene where the blonde teenager is seen on the back of a motorcycle, surrounded by a convoy of twenty-three bikers. The entire ride scene was shot during a single night in cold weather and Charly, wearing only Laura's short dress and a thin jacket wrapped up at 5 in the morning, braving hypothermia. He was luckily brought back to life with the help of good food and a long nap.
For the most part of the two years of shooting, Charly, a natural brunette, had to dye his hair blonde to blend with the wig of its main character Laura. This became a problem when about to play Bobby Briggs, Laura's official boyfriend, known for his dark hair bad boy vibe. The solution: hair gel with black eye shadow! Coat every single strand of hair in the texture and style accordingly.
PS: It was discovered that doing this on damaged over-bleached hair might be contraindicated...
