Trial & Retribution I - Part Two
Prismark1024 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The second part is not entirely courtroom based. The police follow other avenues regarding the death of Julie Harris. Her stepfather is not out of the picture.

Michael Dunn's solicitor Belinda Sinclair believes that there is no actual evidence the prosecution has. A highly regarded criminal barrister Robert Rylands (Corin Redgrave) is employed by the defence.

At the trial, it emerges that some of the prosecution evidence is tainted. Planted by a disturbed police officer.

The police believe that they have found some last minute evidence that links the dead girl with Dunn. Not sure that I found that entirely plausible.

Nothing is entirely cut and dried in the second part. The split screen might even act as a false narrator giving a contrary point of view.

Trial & Retribution does show that law and order can be messy. Julie's mum for example lied at court knowing that her girl's doll was not missing for example.

Dunn might be devious, unhinged or a drunk. There is some doubt left whether he is the actual killer.

The second part was more gripping because other character were behaving suspiciously leaving some uncertainty.

A very gritty conclusion.

The trial approaches, the case for the prosecution isn't seeming as strong as it was as a possible alibi comes forward for Michael Dunn.

Very well made, a sad but very intriguing and well written plot, you are made to wait to learn the real outcome, there are a few surprises along the way.

The first part featured some truly harrowing content, some of what we got to hear was sickening, they have almost toned things down somewhat in this second part. More procedural, but fascinating watch nonetheless.

The acting is incredible, special mentions for Helen McCrory, Rhys Ifans and David Hayman, I have to comment on the brilliant performance of Jake Wood here, I thought he was terrific.

A very good watch, it's stood the test of time, 8/10.

Excellent

This is of course replayed - 2018 and all the actors are so young. Lynda La plante has truly kept up her standards and one can looking back see why she was ( and is) so highly regarded. - two two-hour episodes with plenty of side issues were riveting. Very well written - credible human characters - side issues which are relevant to the whole story Very well acted - much better than 80% of the crime programs making the rounds today
