For Stanley's only scene of dialog, Derek Wayne Johnson chose not to prepare the character's speech pattern and did not rehearse, feeling any sort of preparation for the mentally challenged character would feel forced. Instead, Johnson thought to himself what Boo Radley from To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) might have sounded like had he spoken in that film. The end result is Johnson's improvised interpretation.
