An interesting experiment
FairlyAnonymous15 April 2013
After the release of "Escape from Planet Earth" I decided to look up other films directed by Carl Brunker to see if he ever had some "interesting" works that weren't as bad as the movie previously mentioned. I stumbled across Ninjamaica, the title intrigued me and I thought that since the short had such a low rating that it must be pretty bad. Though, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Ninjamaica isn't bad at all!

Ninjamaica is a 22 minute animated short that tells about a Jamaican man found in the arctic who is also a master ninja. It turns out that some sort of gang/organization wants him dead, though unfortunately for our hero he doesn't remember much of his past. After I finished watching it, several things came into my mind:

1. This animation looks amazing! It is vivid, bright, colorful, is full of movement and is just great to look at. 2. This premise could easily make a TV show. 3. I am actually interested in this main character and what happens to him. 4. Pretty much every joke fell flat. 5. The short ends with a cliff hanger and obviously was just an experiment. 6. The action is pretty good, though brief.

My last thought is probably the reason why people don't like Ninjamaica. Most people who watched it probably didn't take this as an experiment and were thinking that this was a legitimate show, which in that case I can see why people would despise this. Ninjamaica is like a pilot to a show that never existed. It isn't supposed to entertain, it is supposed to test out a concept and see if the concept works. Sadly, the jokes were kind of lame and the weed jokes got old pretty fast. Thankfully there is some action, though there isn't enough of it.

Watch this short and enjoy it for what it is and what it could've been.
