Typical gold show with fabricated drama
bitbucketchip18 November 2021
Gold mining shows have been done to death. In an effort to make their show stand out in a crowded market, the producers have turned to giving their shows a unique twist. We've been treated to an Alaska 7 New York 2 ice dredge owner, father son feuding river dredgers, repair guys driving around fixing sluice boxes, rejects from other shows looking for land, an obsessed military vet who desperately needs to find another profession, and now senior citizens who should know better looking for an urban myth we're constantly told they are sooooo close to finding yet somehow never will.

The beauty with this show is the same as with all these gold mining shows. The characters are (usually) people you can root for, and so bang average you can picture yourself doing better in their shoes. Once in a while something goes right for one of them, and if they can do it you can do it! It fuels the gold mining get-rich-quick fantasy.

The problem with this show is the same as with all these gold mining shows. No one is making money in mining without doing a *lot* of tedious manual labor. And despite an animated narrator and thrilling background music, getting excited watching guys operate heavy machinery is something most of us outgrow by the time we're five years old. Equipment breaks down, water leaks, trucks get stuck... all pretty routine stuff and frankly rather dull viewing. Out of desperation, the producers try to fabricate drama where it doesn't exist. If the truck falls off the cliff everyone will die! (They don't). If the mine collapses everyone will die! (They don't). If they don't find gold everyone will starve to death! (They don't). And so on.

Six stars for this show for having likable characters, the occasional interesting mining fact, and for being decent background noise while doing something else. Zero stars for inventing yet another Oak Island type nonsensical treasure myth. Six stars.

American Gold: The Legend of Digging Holes
luvnetwork22 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Found this show on Fox Business. Defenitly like the fantasy story of gold and the characters who search to find it.

Now, how.much of this story is actually true? I have my doubts. To start, 5 brothers who are in great shape for their age (70s) set out to find gold treasures by liquidating their assets and putting 2nd mortgages on their homes to chase a 4th person story of possible gold from 100 years ago. Eh sounds a bit over the top. Actually pretty irresponsible imo.

While I do understand this area is unforgiving, and mining is a slow process, this show drags. They end up bouncing from hole to hole anytime there is a setback, seemingly spending more time always going to another hole 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, digging, refurbishment of 100 year old holes and the roads that lead to them.

The fake drama was minimal when the 1st season started, and that was refreshing. The drama was actually REAL obstacles to overcome. Unfortunately as it progressed, the fake induced drama becomes more prevalent.

Who knows what the real story is here....looks like to me a bunch of mining industry workers were paid to revamp some holes in an abandoned mine and the story of "Oly" and his gold is irrelevant.

If I had a dollar for every time this show mentioned "Oly's Gold" I'd be the one who struck "gold" lol.

Fox buisness messed up this show
soldriorancho29 November 2021
Im a huge fan of gold rush and its likly i would have been a huge fan of American gold. So i clicked on record season. And every week it recorded episode one like it was a new episode actually skipping the new episode on on Dish satalite and for whatever reason each episode is showing up as a completely different show i hunt and search for episodes some tech nerd ruined this show for me and likely will get it canceled. Because he mistakenly listed each episode wrong. You can see his mistake on guide it says American gold/ and then the episode name.

Old guys trying to be young again
gjjiii13 January 2022
What a waste of time. I've tried to watch this show, but it moves so slow. How many times can you show old guys drinking coffee, talking about what they are going to do and cutting wood. It's embarrassing.

New title, far more accurate: American Glacier, how we wasted 14 hour long episodes episodes to tell 15 minutes worth of story
akeembob23 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The miners are likeable and you want to root for them but you quickly see the producers are dedicated to slow playing this beyond all reason. DVR it and use the fast forward 5 minute feature to speed through each episode. Trust me, you won't miss anything. Any real progress in the mining usually shows up at the end if they actually move the story at all. Note to Producers: Stop rehashing the myth and the family flashbacks for 90% of the show and actually show some mining. Another idea: If they are so short on cash and the old mine tailings are so gold rich they can entice new investors, why not set up a sluice and rerun some tailings? Opps, I forgot, reality is the only thing missing from reality shows. Oh, let's add that if you think people who criticize this shows shortcomings are whiney please explain your personal or family connections to this show and don't try to deny them. No one will believe you.

Nice twist on the gold shows
glomar-m15 April 2022
This is a nice change from the usual Alaska based gold shows. This is set in Montana and is based on an old legend of a hidden mine vein. I thoroughly enjoy the tales of the miners and their chase of the legend. The music in this one sets it apart. I found a new genre of music with this one "Dark Country".

They found the gold vein
bobinnlnh2 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
They found lots of gold and the gold vein they were looking for at the end of season two so all those reviews about not finding any gold are wrong. I'm looking forward to season three when they start being rewarded for all their hard work!

Same old story
goldmastersjewelry9 July 2022
Story line is very interesting and draws you in with the promise of a possible big pay day for the cast. It offers all the mystery, history, hype, teases, what ifs, danger and drama. All the while, leading you to believe they are only moments away from cracking open the mystery and hitting it rich. Only to be spoiled by some unforeseen event. Even after two seasons, they have yet to even discover ANYTHING remotely resembling a scrap of gold. This is just another camera crew following a group of people searching for riches. Riches that they never find.

There's a Point Buried in this Show Somewhere
jurbana29 November 2022
Most of us know mining is hard work, but they never thought of renting oxygen tanks and masks (scuba gear) to go into the "dead air" AND THEN, push or pump the bad air out?

Shouldn't they be using long measuring tapes or something to MAP the mines better? I haven't even seen any analysis of the ore vein directions using INSTRUMENTS. Gold is dense. Where are the gravity meters to determine the denser ore that simply isn't seen.

I have a feeling after every commercial break that this show was pitched to the History Channel, but even they passed. If you need a recap after every commercial break, then your commercial breaks are too long!

Most Realistic Gold Show
jerreljan16 June 2022
This show should've been on Prime time TV. I struggled weekly to find the next episode. I signed up for Fox Nation just to watch it. I canceled my subscription once it was over. This show should be picked up by a REAL STATION!!!!!! Hope it does.

Jay from Michigan.

People are so whiney!
kristylharris21 February 2022
Is an enjoyable show to watch, I don't understand the passion behind their input. I thought it was fun to see the family history and the bonds that brought them to where they are. Yes, I wish it could have moved faster, but I'm sure not nearly as much as the Dales did!
