This is a unique episode. It starts out with a big time shootout in a gun store where a couple people die. In the middle of that stands a man in red who is not hit by twenty some bullets flying. At first I thought it was a scene from a TV show in a studio, but it is not. At the same time, a young woman's body is found in a ditch, her head smashed against a rock. Soon, several characters are investigated, including a couple real nut cases. The search of the figure in red who seems to be at the center. This is a very entertaining, neatly constructed offering.

Brass, Nick, Greg and Langston investigate a shootout at a gun store, where the owner Dolores Rinaldi and the client Edward Smith died and the son of Dolores, Hank, has survived. He explains that they were trying to shoot a stranger with red shirt and the team concludes that they ended shooting each other. Meanwhile, Louis Vartann, Catherine and Sara investigate a dead body of a woman found wrapped in a blanket in the woods. Apparently, she was thrown off a car in a curve. Soon their investigation shows that both cases are related.
"Better Off Dead" is a reasonable episode of CSI. The shootout at the gun store is weak, since no shooter is capable to shoot at the target. The other case is more interesting, although predictable. My vote is seven.
