Red herrings, twists and turns, and plenty of secrets revealed.

With the discovery of Melissa's death Guy is taken in and relays the story of Melissa's distressed phone call. Guy explains he didn't keep the appointment with Doctor Swanton, the Police discover Swanton did see Guy and deems him a violent alcoholic, but is Swanton being blackmailed? When searching Guy's place he discovers Melissa's hat boxes, and questions why she never wore any hats. Don Page lands in trouble over his financial difficulty and tries something pretty serious. Finally the death in Part 1 of the man dressed as Rhett Butler is linked to the murders. This time Paula receives a cryptic letter which sends her into a frenzy.

The standard of Part 3 is definitely maintained, Alan Bleasdale has written some fantastic material over the years, Boys from the Blackstuff, GBH, Sinking of the Laconia, the writing is slick. It's clear why Bleasdale has worked with Julie Walters on so many occasions, she is a fabulous actress and finally gets some material to get her teeth into. Diane Weston adds some welcome humour, I didn't particularly like her the first few episodes, but she's come into her own. Excellent, 9/10
