Washington, June 14 (Ians) NASA’s Curiosity rover has captured a “postcard” of lighting during morning and afternoon at the Martian surface, the space agency said. The postcard is an artistic interpretation of the landscape, with colour added over two black-and-white panoramas captured by Curiosity’s navigation cameras.
The views were taken on April 8 at 9.20 a.m. and 3.40 p.m. local Mars time, providing dramatically different lighting.
“Capturing two times of day provides dark shadows because the lighting is coming in from the left and the right, like you might have on a stage — but instead of stage lights, we’re relying on the Sun,” said Curiosity engineer Doug Ellison of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, who planned and processed the images, in a statement.
Blue was added to parts of the postcard captured in the morning and yellow to parts taken in the afternoon.

Director Eli Roth entered the documentary feature world in 2021 when he helmed and starred in Fin, an advocacy title about the forces driving the global trade in shark fins and other products derived from the increasingly threatened animals. For five years, Roth — an avid shark lover — worked on the film, traveling the world to expose the barbarity undergirding the market. Scenes include Roth boarding an industrial fishing ship with dead sharks littering its floors, for example, and fishermen cutting open and/or beating the animals. There doesn't seem to be much to this process in terms of ensuring that your product will reach a particular market. You can create a variety of items that range from simple to downright bizarre. From the months leading up to the release of The Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy became essential, event viewing amid a wave of massive hype that proved founded. Building on the hugely respectable and rewatchable Batman Begins, Tdk became this century’s Empire Strikes Back, considered by some to be one of the greatest films ever made and elevating this reboot into the realms of meteoric, legendary success. In order to kick of the weekend right, snicks will be bringing you a liveblog of all the gaybie drama on Days of Our Lives today.
This week, Dr. Oz gave a forum to reparative therapy, and on the show, it was presented as a genuine medical practice, and not debunked as junk science as the American Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association and all other medical bodies have done. Further, producers reached out to Wayne Besen at Truth Wins Out about appearing, and Besen was agreeable, even offering to field expert medical testimonies, but the producers balked and dropped him. Dr. Oz later posted on his blog that he felt reparative therapy wasn't medically sound, but that didn't reach nearly the audience his broadcast did.
On a happier note, the Warwick Rowing Team has put out a trailer for their new 2013 naked calendar, which benefits anti-bullying charities. It's way too Nsfw to play here,...

What my followers on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ saw today: • Lucas may have ruined Star Wars, but he's still a mensch. George Lucas Will Use Disney $4 Billion to Fund Education • The BBC News sign language people could learn a thing or two from Bloomberg's daemon, Lydia Callis... • This sort of stuff infuriates and depresses me for all sorts of reasons, mostly 1) Universities are no longer institutions of learning, and 2) A lack of honor and integrity is rampant across our society. Write My Essay, Please! • Ermagerd! Benedict Cumberbatch 'lands Brian Epstein role' • Mars, bitches. Nasa’s Curiosity Mars Rover self-portrait • Oh my god, I can't believe I missed this over the summer. Brilliant! From Kat Dennings to Gwyneth Paltrow, Marvel and the Screwball Tradition • Actually, he was influenced by the fact that pop culture is dealing with issues of child abuse more than it used it... Will.i.am has a leg up on most pop stars.
Instead of having to premiere his newest single on Earth (the least rock n' roll of all the solar system's telluric planets), he teamed up with Nasa to release "Reach For The Stars" by blasting it over the speakers on the Mars Curiosity Rover.
Will.i.am's decision to debut his song in space wasn't an exercise in over-the-top rock star excess (well, it wasn't only an exercise in over-the-top rock star excess). It was also part of an effort by the musician to promote science education among America's youth.

The Black Eyed Peas rapper sat down for a taping of Gavin Newsom's Current TV chat show to speak about how his travels around the world have shown him the urgent need for increased education investment in the United States.

Yesterday, Nasa's Curiosity rover broadcast its first song from Mars to Earth. Given that this was one of the first musical messages the Earth has given Mars, one would think the scientists would pick something epic or universal, like Beethoven or maybe some David Bowie. Instead, they picked a new song from will.i.am, the heavy-handed "Reach For The Stars." The Pea—who was actually on hand with various other celebrities (including Wil Wheaton, Seth Green, Morgan Freeman, and others) at Nasa’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory Aug. 6 to watch Curiosity land—said he chose “Reach For The ...

Pasadena, Calif. — Will.i.am has premiered his new single – from Mars.
The Nasa rover Curiosity beamed to Earth his new song "Reach for the Stars" on Tuesday in the first music broadcast from another planet, to the delight of students who gathered at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory to listen.
The song had been uploaded to the rover, which landed near the equator of Mars, and played back – a journey of some 700 million miles.
The musician, who promotes science and mathematics education, was among more than a dozen celebrities who were invited to Jpl to watch Curiosity's landing earlier this month. Others included Wil Wheaton, Seth Green and Morgan Freeman.
In 2008, Nasa beamed the Beatles' "Across the Universe" into the cosmos to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the song.

Will.i.am premiered his new single from Mars with the help of former The Voice contestant Jaz Ellington, it has been revealed.
Jaz, who was coached by Will.i.am on the BBC singing contest last year, lent the vocals of his school choir to the track.
Trained by Jaz, the fifteen students aged between 12 and 14 from Southfields Academy (at the time of the recording known as Southfields Community College) were asked to perform after Will saw them sing Beatles classic Let It Be on The Voice with Jaz during the quarter-final of the show.

To have one giant money-losing tentpole is unfortunate. To have two starts to look careless, and that's what's happened to Taylor Kitsch. The actor, who broke out on TV's "Friday Night Lights," was seen as Hollywood's next great hope, picked out to star in two great big blockbusters with a combined cost of half-a-billion dollars. But when "John Carter" arrived in March, the film wildly underperformed, with Disney taking a hit of at least $100 million on the project. And after this weekend, it looks that his other film, "Battleship," is going to lose similar amounts.
The film, Universal & Hasbro's adaptation of the board game, directed by "Hancock" helmer Peter Berg, had taken the unusual step of opening everywhere else in the world six weeks ahead of the U.S, in the hope of bagging lucrative foreign coin and building buzz for the U.S. release. But while the film did ok abroad,...

This Sunday, Discovery airs the season finale of Curiosity, and it may have saved the best for last with the episode “Your Body on Drugs.” Robin Williams narrates what the network calls “a candid, shocking and sometimes sobering journey into the psychophysiology of psychotropic drugs.” Put Williams in front of a camera, and he’s going to riff. If you’re asking him to talk about drugs, well, watch the exclusive outtakes below (and keep your finger over the bleep button). Science really can be fun.

The studio announced they have acquired the U.S. and South African rights to the Maggie Gyllenhaal and Hugh Dancy romantic comedy, which debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival. The movie, directed by Tanya Wexler, is based on the story of Joseph Mortimer Granville (played by Dancy), the inventor of the world’s first electro-mechanical vibrator.
