Fantastic Aussie horror/thriller

Remnant is an independent Australian horror thriller by Outlaw Films, with sci-fi and supernatural elements. Set in a small country town, the film follows the story of Grace who, because of an experimental brain technology, is the only survivor of a car accident that claims the life of her parents.

As Grace tries to recover back at her family home with the help of her friend Kate, she experiences unexpected symptoms from the implant and visions of a ghost that is trying to tell her something about what has happened to her. As her suspicions grow and the situation becomes more sinister, she is set on a journey to unravel the past and uncover the terror that is plaguing her.

This is a great debut entry into the horror thriller genre. Created by a small Australian team, it achieves some excellent cinematography, with a number of unique and well executed shots adding to the appeal. The compelling story contains many different strands which weave together culminating in a final confrontation, and keeps you guessing until the end.

Supported by excellent performances from local Australian actors, an atmospheric score and some great practical effects, Remnant is a testament to what can be achieved by small independent productions.

Being a local film, I had been following along with its production and looked forward to the release. I had the pleasure of seeing it at the outdoor premiere in Mudgee and it was a great experience. It was fantastic to see how well the film turned out and to see people's reactions as we watched. There was a lot of chatter afterwards, and people discussing their theories on the ending. I am very much looking forward to seeing what Mike Horan and Outlaw Films have in store for us in the future.

Pretty slick for a low budget horror film.

I went to the out door premiere of this film the other night & I was really quite impressed with how it turned out. I've been a horror fan my whole life and know when a film is limited by it's budget.

I won't give too much away but the climax of 'Remnant' really powers on with some great production value. All the scenes inside the theatre have a real gothic feel to them and were obviously inspired by Argento and the giallo movement in Italy in the 60's and 70's.

On a mixed note, I did speak to a few people after the movie was over and they were a little vague about what was going on. It's not spelled out crystal clear so I guess it's up to the viewers interpretation. Definitely worth a watch though.

Absolute Ripper

Riveting and bone-chilling, the Australian horror film's premiere left audiences on the edge of their seats. The main actor's powerful performance 'Grace Wheeler' brought depth to the spine-tingling narrative. The film seamlessly blended atmospheric suspense with moments of genuine terror, showcasing Australia's unique backdrop in Mudgee as a haunting setting. A standout in the horror genre, this film delivers a fresh and captivating experience that lingers in the shadows long after the credits roll.

The cinematography was a masterclass in building tension, with every frame carefully crafted to intensify the eerie atmosphere.

A true testament to Australian horror cinema, this film is a must-watch for those seeking a thrilling and thought-provoking experience.

Cinematography - WOW

The standout "star" of this film would be Mason Grady who's work behind the camera was outstanding. Some cuts could have been longer to give you time to read things like gravestones.

This is an independent locally (Australian) made production by Mike Horan of Outlaw Films with a cast of largely unknown actors. While described as a horror film it is not that scary, it is more a mixture of suspense, mystery, scifi and thriller. It was filmed in Mudgee and NSW Central Coast but could be set in any rural town.

The story line was a bit hard to follow in terms of what is flashbacks, imagination, ghosts, the brain implant and current actual real life.

The main character of. Anna played by Megan Bell carries the film and did an outstanding job,the small role of John Barnes played by Shaun Foley looks like he belongs in a Christmas romance movie or action thriller. The character of the best friend Sophie I just found annoying.

I have seen it twice, the first was at a pre release screening at Avoca. This was indoors with a high resolution projection in comfortable surroundings. The second was at the.outdoor premier in Mudgee with a lower resolution projection and falling temparature.

For a small budget locally made film it was great, just wish I understood the story more. I look forward to future films from Mike Horan and his team (hopefully with Mason behind the camera).

Great Australian Horror/Thriller

"REMNANT" is an independent Australian horror thriller that delivers an exhilarating cinematic experience, skilfully weaving a captivating backstory throughout the film. The suspenseful scenes had me on the edge of my seat, keeping me guessing and delivering unexpected surprises.

The director's prowess shines through in crafting a well-paced narrative, while the actors showcase impressive diversity in their character roles. I can't believe this is director Mike Horan's first feature film, WOW! What a debut!

The cinematography and high production values, look amazing on the big screen! Remnant has a real gothic feel which showcases the Giallo movement from the Italian greats of the 60's and 70's. I can certainly see the influence Dario Argento played on the look and feel of the film.

This movie is not only well-directed but also leaves a lasting impression, prompting the anticipation of a second viewing. I loved the plot twist!
