Kim Kardashian West's Aaliyah Halloween costume came from a place of "love and respect" -- no matter what anyone else thinks.
The 37-year-old reality star addressed the backlash over the costume on her app on Friday, explaining to those who thought her costume was in poor taste that she was trying to dress "as a woman whom I will always admire."
"When I was deciding what I wanted to be for Halloween this year, I had a lot of ideas that I narrowed down to musical icons and my second costume was Aaliyah," Kardashian wrote of the singer, who tragically died in 2001 plane crash when she was 22 years old. "The look was inspired by what she wore in her 'Try Again' music video. I wore a custom bra top and J Brand leather pants. Ariel Tejada did my makeup and Chris Appleton did my hair."

Katherine Jackson, matriarch of the Jackson family, has surrendered her co-guardianship over Blanket, her late son Michael Jackson's youngest child, who is now 15.
According to court documents obtained by Et, Katherine has filed papers to hand over sole guardianship of Blanket (real name: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr.) to Tito Joe "Tj" Jackson, Blanket's 39-year-old cousin.
"Katherine is no longer needed to fulfill the duties that were necessary when joint-guardians were appointed," the documents state. "Given her own age [87] and the fact that [Blanket] is now 15 years old, Katherine feels that Tj is able to assume all necessary responsibilities of the guardianship for the Minor Child."
Along with Tj, Katherine was appointed joint legal guardian of all three of Michael's children -- Blanket, Paris and Prince -- on Sept. 14, 2012, following the King of Pop's tragic death.

“Michael Jackson’s Journey From Motown to Off the Wall” is overflowing with phenomenal performance footage of the legendary musician from his early days with The Jackson 5 to his adult work on 1979’s Off the Wall. Spike Lee’s documentary on this formative period in Michael Jackson’s career derives its electric, enlivening energy from these fantastic clips. Alas, they’re not enough to alter the fact that this non-fiction effort — premiering at Sundance (and hitting Showtime next month), but primarily produced in conjunction with Jackson’s estate to be packaged with a new reissue of Off the Wall — is merely a nostalgic promotional puff piece meant to look back fondly, and uncritically, at an artist transitioning from a youth-oriented pop fad to the biggest star in the world. (Cbr) - Until now, we've only gotten hints of the musical tastes of the icons of the Marvel Cinematic Universe -- AC/DC on Tony Stark's in-armor playlist, the Falcon turning Captain America on to Marvin Gaye -- but in "Guardians of the Galaxy," audiences get a complete sense of Star-Lord's '60s and '70s-era power-pop leanings -- and, as James Gunn, Chris Pratt and Vin Diesel attest, it's as appropriately awesome a mix tape as the cassette label suggests. The lineup of songs is epic, in terms of pop touchstones from their era: Swedish rockers Blue Swede's 1974 smash hit cover of "Hooked On a Feeling;" "Go All the Way," the 1972 breakthrough hit for songwriter/lead singer Eric Carmen's early band The Raspberries; "Moonage Daydream," David Bowie's 1971 glam rock ode to an alien messiah; blues rocker Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell in Love," from...

As we unofficially kick off summer with Memorial Day Weekend, it’s time to think about what the unofficial song of the summer will be. As my colleague Louis Virtel lamented a few weeks ago, the possibilities for 2014 were slow to emerge, but as we highlighted in our Summer Music Preview, it now looks like Ariana Grande’s “Problem” featuring Iggy Azalea, and Michael Jackson’s “Love Never Felt So Good,” featuring Justin Timberlake, will probably vie for this summer’s honors. So what makes a great summer song? Here are a few ingredients: 1) The song makes you want to move. Almost all of our contenders for this summer’s song and on our All Time Best list are upbeat, even if the lyrics are sad, like Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” or are a little confusing, like Porter Robinson’s “Sad Machine.” Sure, you can’t necessarily...

Washington, April 16: Jermaine Jackson has claimed that if it wasn't for their family group the Jackson 5, there wouldn't be any Michael Jackson.
While speaking to TMZ.com, the 59-year-old bass guitarist said that people need to know that the late pop star had started with the music group, which gave him a launch pad.
People always blame the family as they think the family is after money, but we work and have made money, he added.
Formed in 1964, the Jackson 5 consisted of King of Pop, Michael Jackson along with brothers Marlon Jackson, Tito Jackson, Jackie Jackson and Jermaine Jackson. (Ani)...

Ladies and gentlemen, make way for “Bertha Cee Lo Green.”
Yes indeed, that’s the name The Voice‘s Season 5 runner-up Jacquie Lee says she gave to the elderly woman who lives in her stomach (the same old lady that rival coach Cee Lo Green accused her of swallowing after a rousing rendition of The Jackson 5′s “Who’s Lovin’ You”).
Yet while the 16-year-old New Jersey native is quick to joke about her soulful alter-ego, she’s super serious about the education she received on NBC’s reality singing juggernaut. “I basically got five years of music-industry experience packed into one season,...

She's had tons of support from her family since her suicide attempt on June 5, but now Paris Jackson's uncle Randy Jackson is speaking out against his niece's treatment plan.
On Monday evening (August 19), the former Jackson 5 band mate took to his Twitter account and dished about Paris' stay at an undislosed treatment facility, also sharing his thoughts on the length of her stay.
"I don't like that Paris is still in this facility. It's not right," Mr. Jackson tweeted. "She's been there much too long. She is not psychotic. There is no reason for her to be in a psychiatric hospital this long away from her family."
"I just hate the fact that you will probably still be there on my brother's birthday. This is not good," he noted about his younger brother and Paris' father, Michael Jackson.

As the legendary founder of Motown, Berry Gordy Jr. signed many now-iconic music stars to his 1960s record label -- Diana Ross and the Supremes, The Temptations and Smokey Robinson, to name a few. Berry admits that he never liked children's groups, but that changed the day he saw a very young Michael Jackson audition for Motown with the Jackson 5.
In this video from Berry's upcoming appearance on "Oprah's Master Class," he vividly recalls watching Michael's performance and being blown away by Michael's talent. Not only was Berry impressed with Michael's moves, but he was also amazed by the boy's on-stage presence.
"On stage, he was one kind of person -- he was like this master of what he was doing," Berry says. "When he was through, he was very quiet and almost shy."

Heat was Monday night's theme on The Voice – even the air-conditioning in the studio gave out for a time.
Despite the setback, the show drew a host of sizzling performances from powerhouse country singers who likely raised their stock for fans at home now voting for the Top 12 finalists.
After 30 minutes without the a/c, a sweltering Usher removed his shirt to reveal a black tank top and sculpted arms, which set fans screaming. But it was performances from country's Amber Carrington, 16-year-old Danielle Bradbery of Texas and the always-soulful Judith Hill that kept the room hot as the night's competition wore on.

The live shows of "The Voice" continue on Monday (May 13), with Season 4's Top 12 artists taking the stage to sing for America's votes. From this point on, coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Usher and Shakira have no further opportunity to save anyone from their teams. Who on each team will earn enough votes to advance?
To kick off the show, host Carson Daly informs us that the studio has lost its air conditioner and they're suffering a heat wave. Yikes. I am so glad I'm not in that room.
Up first tonight is Team Usher's Vedo. Tonight he'll be singing Michael Jackson's "Rock With You." Usher points out a major flaw of Vedo's, in that his slick dance moves are often out of sync, thematically, with the songs he's singing.
During his live performance, his voice sounds like its struggling with some of the higher notes that Mj could hit with ease.

As the top 12 took the stage to prove what they’ve got on May 13, Usher couldn’t handle how hot the performances got — it caused him to start shedding his clothes.
Apparently the air condition wasn’t working on The Voice on Monday night, but it was the top 12 performances that really brought the heat! All of the singers brought their A-game to show their voices – and their dance moves!
Usher’s Team: Not Just Another Song & Dance
For Usher, we didn’t think anything could shine brighter than that diamond necklace — until his team took the stage.
Vedo kicked off the show, by taking on Michael Jackson‘s “Rock With You.” He proved he could both since and dance, while he took on some of Mj’s moves. All the coaches liked the performance, and even Blake Shelton said that it didn’t take away from his singing.

The odd problem with "Motown: The Musical" is that it appears to have it all -- a score mostly made up of enduring hits, an incredibly talented cast and what should be a great American success story -- yet it is lacking.
It never catches fire because the dialog is so stilted and the book is so heavy-handed it feels as if the big boss imposed only his ideas and no one would dare question anything.
Given that this is the story of Berry Gordy and he wrote it, that makes sense.
His is a terrific story and as the founder of Motown, it was his vision, ear and abilities that crafted the careers of The Jackson 5 (before Michael Jackson was a solo act) Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, the Four Tops and many more.
