Peter Greenberg's vanity doc
ranchofiesta19 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Poland is hidden alright! Travel guide Peter Greenberg tells us there's many castles in Poland, we see some stone rubble, we see red rooftops of a castle built in the 13th century - lots of different people have owned it over the years. Do we learn about any of them? No. Other than when the Nazis took it over and the Polish Army was there, now it's a hotel.

We see Peter going in and coming out of a castle's hidden passageway doors. Do we get to go along with him? No. Just Peter going in and coming out.

We see Peter climbing the 100 steps to the top of the tower. Peter looking out the window - do *we* see what Peter sees? No. We see Peter looking.

Peter takes a hot-air balloon ride. After a split-second of the view, we watch Peter looking at the view.

Waste of time. Thanks for nothing, CBS.

What an insufferable narrator

Alright I'm super interested in learning more about Poland, but this host is horrible. To begin with, his voice unfortunately is jarring. But it's the writing that really destroys this show. The attempts at clever quips and banter are cringe inducing, presenting common knowledge as insight, pointing out the obvious, and just generally being super banal. "The water gets deeper the further out in the lake you go." "There is something to see everywhere you look." He also manages to disparage museums (elitist museum guides?), and fishermen (brings me back to my childhood when I was six and fished). And good lord do not ever let this guy comment on public art ever again.
