My not-so guilty pleasure
ridingjunky24 April 2012
I'll start off by admitting that I'm almost 19 and I look forward to watching this show whenever it comes on YTV. I understand that Victorious is designed for a younger audience, but let's be honest, it's easily one of the most quirky and just flat-out enjoyable nic shows out there. Yes it's a touch over-dramatic and can be pretty corny, but that's all part of the show's charm. It's like the love-child of Community, Glee, and one of the other nic shows like, I dunno, iCarly - and that, as it turns out, is a pretty killer combination. All of the cast members are so talented. From musicality to comedic timing, they've got it all. All of the characters are unique and interesting - particularly Cat and Sikowitz.

Okay, I guess I'll stop ranting. To sum up, Victorious is the only live action kids show that I've ever thoroughly enjoyed, and unlike my love of Spongebob Squarepants, I'm not afraid to admit it.

Funny and off comedy
seethachymiso23 November 2019
I don't know about you but this was pretty funny for me. I don't really see shows like this but I like original teen shows that have funny wit and real fresh humor.

I don't know why but back in 2010, the quality of shows like these were actually pretty funny, I hate to break it to you but now a days shows like these lack a lot. I guess it would have to be time.

Actually a lot of fun
tster-4009417 January 2021
I'll admit I have a lot of nostalgia for this show. However, after rewatching it now that I'm older plenty of aspects of it still hold up. The writing is surprisingly funny in a weird sort of way(one of the main character is literally a "urban" puppet.) The acting from the kids is fine and obviously it includes a lot of breakout stars like Ariana Grande. Obviously it is a kids sitcom so it has a lot of cheesiness but as far as this genre goes I'll still say it gets a pass from me.

Why is this show being canceled??????????
metalface1012 March 2013
Unfortunately for me I didn't come across this show until the last regular episode aired. My niece watches it all the time and I finally sat down and watched it with her, and I liked it immediately. Likable characters, and funny story lines. My favorite characters; Jade, Cat, and Rex ( yes, the puppet ). I wish I had had a teacher like Sikowitz. I hope Nickelodeon changes their mind but it's highly unlikely, even though it's the most popular show they have right now, if I read correctly. I hope all the main characters go on to future success. Dan Schneider had yet another hit with this show, and I'm sure will have another new show out soon.

Nostalgia is very nice
fnikolic-4326924 January 2021
I liked the series a lot when I was a kid and one day I was kinda bored and thought why not. It isn't that long so it's definitely worth watching I would say. A proper end would've been nice to be honest. But all in all a funny series to bring back some memories from your childhood!

Another solid effort from Dan Schneider
lawlnick31 March 2010
After launching his career as the creative force behind All That, Dan Schneider has gone on to create some of Nickelodeon and TeenNick's best and most well-known programs, including The Amanda Show, Drake & Josh, Zoey 101, and iCarly. His latest effort is Victorious, a Nickelodeon sitcom starring teen idol Victoria Justice. Known primarily for her supporting role in Zoey 101 and starring in the iCarly movie, iFight Shelby Marx, her first lead role in a television series finds her as Victoria "Tori" Vega, an easily likable high student whose talent is obvious to everyone but herself. After her naive sister is unable to perform at her art school's annual talent show, Victoria unwillingly takes the stage, wows the crowd, and, eventually leaves her "normal" high school to enroll at the fictional Hollywood Arts High School. From the very first day, it's clear: the transition will be a difficult one, thanks to the inherent irregularities that come with such a process, but ultimately necessary to achieving her lifelong dream.

Victorious adds little to Schneider's patented formula--the characters are still a bit odd, their dialogue quirky, and the situations they find themselves always more absurd than reasonable. Fans of Schneider's previous works will be right at home here, but unless you find Victoria Justice's character a more effective protagonist than, say, Zoey Brooks or Carly Shay, those who find shows like these predictable and cliché will likely retain the same opinion.

Bizarrely enjoyable watching it 10 years later, in my mid 20s
tracybass378 September 2020
I was 15 when this show came out. I watched some episodes here & there and found it enjoyable enough, but didn't love it....it wasn't "mature" enough for my "discerning palette" (I mainly watched Gossip Girl, Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, etc. hahaha). In fact, most of my exposure to this show came from babysitting a little girl who was obsessed with it, so that probably also made me feel "too old" for it (gotta love teenager logic!). Zoom forward to 2020 and the craziness of this year, and out of boredom (and possibly psychological regression) I've revisited this show on Netflix. Only....I'm amazed at how much I am genuinely enjoying it! True, parts of this show haven't aged well....at all. But, it has some truly funny moments, catchy songs, and the cast had great chemistry overall. And of course it's fascinating to see Ariana Grande shine as Cat Valentine in the days before her mega stardom/success. Victorious didn't take itself too seriously, and as long as you don't either, you might just find yourself watching all 4 seasons in an alarmingly quick span like I did.

If it weren't for these few things, this show would get a solid 10/10. Definitely watch!
a-731033 September 2020
This show is very entertaining and fun. My favorite character is cat. She is very adorable and sweet. I also like Andre, who is very musically talented and anti stereotype. Trina annoys me TO DEATH. She has some funny one liners, but all of her plot lines consist of her being a total b*tch. Some of the songs sung are poorly written and hard to listen to. Also I think they maybe should have made the Tory character a more outstanding singer that the others. In the show, there is nothing that makes her voice better than cats or jades, but they still always have Tori the one being discovered, or applauded. In the platinum music awards episode, cat did a better job in my opinion but tori still won. This bugged me because there was nothing really special about toris voice. So that part was kind of unrealistic. Beck is a very flat character. He is almost never funny. I don't know why he was in that school in the first place other than for the tori/ jade love triangle. Other than beck being a flat character, Trina being annoying, and tori being unrealistic, this show is amazing and I definitely recommend watching.

Give This School A "D"
DiamondGirl4274 July 2010
I know all the Disney and Nick people want to keep pumping out fresh new stars on their shows...but please..this show won't be doing that. This is suppose to be a performing arts high school...yet none of the students really have ANY talents at all. Of course most of the adults are clueless and have no real wisdom to teach..they might be better suited to a mental ward somewhere. The main star...Tori Vega..is pretty and she is the ONLY one who truly seems normal..and she really did not want be thereto begin with...(I wonder why?)..but she got stuck going there because of her horribly untalented sister...who thinks she IS the next MAJOR star...guess what? EVERYONE knows she will never be a star...major or otherwise. How did SHE manages to get into this place? There are random other kids who all seem to have major issues of one kind of other too...one guy constantly carries around a ventriloquist's' dummy...which is freaky...one girl is angry all the time..dresses in black...and actually has a boyfriend who is a nice guy...someone r swho would be better suited for Tori...hmmmm...I wonder if THAT will happen at some point? Predictable...yes....entertaining...a little...annoying...oh yes...kids and teens love it...but I wish they would come up with something original to make a show about...stop repeating stuff that already has been done.

I love this show except.....
a-7310315 January 2021
I do genuinely like this show and find it very enjoyable. There are a few things that bug me though. Tori is always being treated like she has the best voice of all of them. Whenever there is a voice contest, Tory wins, if ever an audition, tori gets it. I find cat (Ariana grande), jade (Liz gillies), and Andre (Leon Thomas 111) to all be better singers than tori. It was pretty obvious the entire show that they wanted Victoria justice (tori) to go on and be the big star, but Ariana grande (cat) did instead. All of the characters had a personality except tori. Honestly, I would have liked Tory a lot better if she was a side character and wasn't treated like she was the cutest girl, the best singer, the best actor, the best songwriter, and everything else. Honestly, they made Liz gillies (jade) dye her hair black and Ariana Grande (cat) dye her hair red so that Tory would be the cute brunette and no one else. Tori isn't even a good friend, she often ditches her friends, steals their boyfriend, etc etc. there are rumors that Victoria Justice was bullying Ariana Grande and the others. Since then Victoria justice has said that ari texted her privately saying that she wasn't talking about Victoria. This was never confirmed or denied by Ariana Grande. But back to victorious. Also, Trina is supposed to be funny but I find her obnoxious. Also, the laugh track bugs the crap outa me. Other than that, it is a good show,

What a TERRIBLE show
sharon-miller87611 April 2010
I have watched Dan Schneider's shows since I was little. All That was great and then there was Drake and Josh which made me and my parents laugh out loud. Zoey was 'ok' and when Victoria Justice came in season 2 she was pretty but that was about it. Even iCarly has some hysterical moments, especially Sam and Freddie. So naturally, I thought this would be another home run for Mr. Schneider. What a horrible disappointment. There is nothing redeeming about this show on any level. The acting is terrible. The writing is anything but funny. The characters are shallow and meaningless. It makes me feel like the entire show is riding on Victoria's appearance which, frankly, can't carry a 30 minute show on its merits. This comes off like a 'poor man's Glee'. Maybe Schneider has past his prime of creating funny kids shows? If it has to, finish its first run but for God's sake, take it off the air and replace it with something watchable.

Best Show ever aired in nick since Drake And Josh
ljmendones13 April 2013
Dan Schneider is really excellent in Creating Victorious he has chose the best actors to deliver the script perfectly, Victorious is hysterically funny and one of the best shows in nickelodeon and the actors deliver the script very perfectly when there is a really funny scene they try not to laugh and they always succeed, Victorious is inspiring people who want to be pop stars someday that anything can happen like what happened to Tori she did not expect to be a student of Los Angeles best acting school, Two thumbs up, Victorious is a funny show very entertaining, They should have 9 seasons because they truly make me laugh hard and such a shame many people hate it, but what matters is your personal opinion Victorious is truly Victorious.

How can this be on a kids' television?! Several "jokes" promote bullying ( The Slap dot com - for Trina's show when Trina terrorised Robbie over writing a good review). Over-acting and bad script. Horrible. Horrible. Whoever approved this must have had issues.

Favorite childhood series
MARVIN_SHO21 October 2023
The series "Victorious" was my childhood favorite, which was revealed to me back in 2012, when I was only 8 years old. This work by Dan Schneider, the creator of iCarly and Drake and Josh, immediately captivated me with its music and cast. Victoria Justice became my first childhood crush, although now it's Ariana Grande. The humor and jokes in the series were special, although today they may seem creepy. It's a shame that the final episode left me feeling unfinished, but for me, an eight-year-old boy, it was a wonderful entry into the world of 2010s Nickelodeon. However, due to Dan Schneider's strange reputation, now after all these rumors I still don't feel disappointed, except for those moments when they showed legs like in iCarly.

"Victorious" is just that - "Victorious"
dee.reid18 April 2010
I think I can make this comment short & sweet:

In the new Nickelodeon teen comedy show "Victorious," Tori Vega (Victoria Justice) enrolls at a prestigious performing arts school after taking her older sister's place in a singing contest and just absolutely wowing the audience, not to mention herself, with her singing abilities. Hilarity ensues as she tries to adjust to life at the school and learn to harness her talents in an artistic and professional manner. And we also get to know some of her friends and enemies at the school, all of whom are also quite likable and colorful, including a nerdy guy with a fast-talking puppet.

Series creator Dan Schneider ("All That," "Zoey 101," "Drake & Josh" and my personal favorite, "iCarly") has yet another hit on his hands with his latest, "Victorious," which is obviously meant to be the breakout role of star Victoria Justice, in her first starring role. I watched "All That" in the few precious years before Nickleodeon began its descent into idiocy in the late 1990s; I never watched "Zoey 101," but I do remember Victoria Justice from the "iCarly" movie "iFight Shelby Marx."

One of Schneider's gifts as an entertainer is that he knows his audience and stars better than anyone else in the business. Being a former child actor himself, he knows his audience and empathizes with them and knows what works and what doesn't. He knows how to make his audience laugh without pandering to them or insulting their intelligence. Someone from a vastly different background making this show couldn't do what he does in making teen comedy shows funny, compelling, and continually interesting to watch.

Being that I'm in my mid-20s, I grew up watching Nick when it was still in its prime in the mid-'90s, and many of its greatest-ever shows are no longer on the air, unfortunately, and have been relegated to mere childhood memories. Shows like "iCarly" and "Victorious," in my opinion, are able to give this fledgling network some semblance of credibility in trying to reel in lapsed viewers from better days gone by. And this is why I'm continually impressed by "iCarly" and "Victorious," because they're entertaining, sweet, innocent, and funny - just like some of the older shows no longer on the air were back in the day.

Like Miranda Cosgrove in "iCarly," Justice proves to be a spunky, fresh, and likable young talent to keep an eye on. And like some of her other peers, she can sing (how long will it be before she releases her first CD?). In my opinion, she and Miranda Cosgrove could definitely give other teen singing sensations of the moment like Miley Cyrus a run for their money.

Although I'm only two episodes in, I know that Dan Schneider has another teen comedy success on his hands. Victoria Justice is primed to become another teen star like some of her other cohorts on other popular Nick shows. What I can say about this show is that it is indeed very funny, and Schneider and company definitely better keep up the good work, or else!

Quickly winded out
rauguste-3866412 April 2020
The first season was a surprise, as I found it quite funny. I don't like singing in tv shows, but it was part of this show, so whatever. But the humor was often pretty good, Victoria Justice actually decent enough of an actress and funny. Season 2 fell a bit flat. It started to wind out. Season 3 and 4 were just mediocre. Characters became caricatures (as many shows do when they wind out), humor was less creative and every episode kind of felt like finding an excuse for them to sing. A couple episodes in the second half of season 4 might have been better actually, but nothing exceptional, and it was the end anyway. So there was potential, not fully exploited.

Not bad
amarisdsage20 October 2022
I grew up with 90s Nickelodeon, so it's very difficult for 2000s Nickelodeon to catch my attention, but this show was actually bearable. I'd watch it with my daughter on occasion, and I found most of the cast to be very entertaining. I love Jade. She reminds me of young me. Some people have said Beck is "flat," but I disagree. I think he's an excellent balance for Jade. Robbie is adorably awkward and very amusing. Some people think Trina is annoying, but I found her hilarious. I can only imagine how many times they had to call cut from the laughter during the episode where Trina was healing from dental work. Cat. Oh my sweet, adorable Cat. It's hard not to love her. My only complaint is her character wasn't consistent throughout the show. Still loved every minute she was on screen - especially when singing. Andre is a good character too, but clearly his greatest talent is music. Then there's Tori. Couldn't stand her. I feel bad for saying that because her acting was enjoyable, but like some other reviewers have mentioned, it's laughable that she was always the one to be the star when she's the least talented singer of the girls in the group. I'm not saying she can't sing, because she obviously can, but Liz and Ariana have faaaaaaaaar better voices and range. That made me dislike the character greatly. And finally there's Sikowitz: the oh-so-amusing drama teacher. Loved him!

That's all.

Nothing Special
Sabreep2127 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Okay so I just saw the preview for this show after the KCAs cause I was curious. That and I think Dan Schneider makes good shows...but compared to Drake&Josh, ICarly, and All That, this show isn't too "Victorious" (haha, couldn't resist putting in the joke).

Anywho, the concept for Vitorious is pretty simple. Tori's always been in the background of her show offy sister who goes to a performing arts school, then she's given the opportunity (against her will after her older sister is unable to perform in a showcase) to show her pipes and she gets admitted into said performing arts school where she feels she isn't good enough, and doesn't fit in and blah blah blah.

For starters the concept of the show is FAAAAR too cliché, it's been done time and time again. Not only that but would it kill them if they made Trina (Tori's sister) have some actual talent? The fact that the character's a talentless drama queen who thinks she's the best is just dumb to say the least.

The acting was decent-ish, but the comedy needs some work. The only funny part was when they were forcing Tori into performing, and the kid Andre had some amusing lines as well. The rest of the cast were just okay, it's hard to judge from one episode.

Again, with such a cliché and tired concept they could have done a better job with making the other part of this show better (the comedy chops and blah blah blah).

But we'll see where this show takes us....

Character analysis - Tori, Jade, Cat, Andre, Robbie, Beck
pizelli-7595719 July 2021
Los Angeles Arts High School comedy. Main characters:

Tori Vega - Smart, nice, compassionate, level headed. This character is the general focal point of the series. Rarely ever creates any problems, follows the rules, is extraordinarily attractive.

Jade West - Smart, disturbed in general, very aggressive in almost every situation.

Catarina Valentine (Cat) - This character never really solidified into any one thing, but was generally unintelligent except when the story needed her to be knowledgeable. There was a lack of consistency both in the writing and the ability of Ariana Grande to step fully into the character. Cat's personality varies greatly throughout the series and continues to vary into the spin-off Sam and Cat.

Andre Harris - The most emotionally unstable character in the show. He is constantly whining and crying in very dramatic loud obnoxious ways in response to very minor problems that most of us would consider daily annoyances. In contrast he also takes on a cool guy persona some of the time, but his childlike inability to deal with simple problems is the primary trait of this character. He also has been shown to be extremely self centered, rude and downright horribly offensive when dealing with Tori or Tori's mother.

Robbie Shapiro - His primary characteristic is that he is a ventriloquist. He is generally respectful, awkward and nerdy.

Beck Oliver - Very good looking, even keeled, cool guy. Rarely causes any confrontations.

Funny but unbelievable
Codymileswoodruff14 April 2021
The show first aired when I was a senior in high school. I remember seeing episodes here and there and thought it was funny. Now that it's on Netflix 10 years later, I've watched most of the show. It's funny half of the time, but some of the jokes don't land. But it's completely unrealistic that time and time again Tori's singing chops beat out Cat's, Jade's, or even Andre's. For her to be the star, a better singer should have been cast. Or the supporting characters shouldn't be able to sing lightyears better.

Painfully Bad
RuiChiu23 September 2010
I have two nieces, 12 and 15, and immediately after iCarly, they wanted to change the channel rather than watch Victorious. Curious, I checked it out anyway.Being a tween/teen show I had very low expectations.

While the show is from the same creative team of iCarly, it has none of its humor or charm. The characters are beyond stereotypical, they are so one dimensional I found myself wincing. The jokes are subpar, terrible puns or flat delivery gags.

The most egregious thing on the show is the main character, Tori Vega. The contrived, been done to death, oh I'm so hot and great but gee gosh, I don't even know it character is driven into the viewer's skull to the point where it's annoying to even look at her.
