A must-see short film
lilkerri082023 May 2011
Warning: Spoilers
From the very first moment of the short film Conversations with Lucifer you will want to know Darby Quinn's story. The scene itself is sunny and the opening narration sweet and inviting, yet writer, producer and lead actress Shevaun Cavanaugh Kastl's Darby has a toughness that is relatable and unpretentious. This is not your typical "woe is me" recovery movie that misses the mark on the reality of recovery. The journey of recovery involves optimism and pessimism and hope and despair and passion and carelessness and hysterics and anger and yes EVEN comical moments because that is LIFE. Shevaun's writing and acting does not shy away from the emotions that go hand-in-hand with recovery and the result is refreshingly authentic. The writing has such organized detail that a full story is told in under 30 minutes without being confusing or muddled.

Adding to the story is the supporting cast (including but not limited to): Darby's sponsor/friend Brooke, perfectly cast and played by Dikla Marshall is likable and intelligent, certainly someone an addict can trust; Brandon Karrer's smoldering Hudson; the father, played by Spencer Garrett and last but not least Darby's elusive co-star, the cat. You will have to watch and learn more about Lucifer, the cat.

The short film cannot be commended without admiring the quality of the film work, credited to Director Cody Boesen , Director of Photography Ben Staley and Edited by Blake Barrie. Without wanting to give too much away, I will say the crew's film work and the music were a vital part of telling the story.

If you are in recovery, if you know someone in recovery or if you just want to see a good story and quality short film I highly recommend this.

Gritty and Real
ryaneades8 June 2011
Conversations with Lucifer resonated deeply with me as an eye awakening look into a world too often ignored or downplayed as weakness in our society - addiction.

Shevaun's portrayal of Darby brought to light the humanity within all of us, no matter our struggles.

This gritty and true to life story taught me many lessons and did it with an entertaining flair and voice unique to Shevaun and her abundant talents as a storyteller.

I've shared this movie with many of my friends and family and look forward to more of Shevaun's work.

I loved this movie
Shevaun Kastl is unequaled in her performance. The detail of the time period is accurate. The character played by Shevaun is a person that I would vale as a friend The costumes are awesome. The house is so perfect for the time period. The movie shows that hope is always obtainable. This movie helps people understand the difficulty in fighting self destruction. Shevaun excels in her acting and is unsurpassed in her original depiction of the character she portrays. all the settings are of the time period. a fantastic movie everyone should see. this is a film of a time period of mistrust in others and finding out you have to depend on yourself.

Great film

Incredible writing and acting by Shevaun Kastl. The short film Conversations with Lucifer made me take a closer look at my life and the lives of those close to me. I was very moved by the truth of it, that life is ridiculous for everyone and we all need to evaluate ourselves and strive to be the best we can. People can make mistakes, but the character of a person shows through their strength in perseverance. I would recommend this film to anyone who has ever felt the pressure of life weighing down on them or fell victim to their own vices provoked by circumstances beyond their control. This film took me on a wonderful journey to which I would like to return. I look forward to viewing future work by the talented Shevaun Kastl.

A revealing glimpse into the life of a recovering addict...Conversations with Lucifer
susandcohen31 May 2011
Conversations with Lucifer is an intimate film that explores the struggles of a recovering addict, Darby, on the verge of falling off the wagon. Darby is beautifully portrayed by Shevaun Kastl - also the writer of the short. Her nuanced performance lends itself to the realism of an addict's struggle to recovery, adding to the authenticity of the performance.

Addiction and recovery are never easy topics to explore and can fall into the terrible trap of melodrama. Conversations with Lucifer stays clear of the usual clichés. And with the introduction of Lucifer - an unexpected twist is brought to the film.

Director, Cody Boesen expertly crafted a film that leaves the audience wanting more.

Shevaun is so perfect for the character in the movie.
This is a fantastic film. The movie has a deep plot that is filled with events that happen to a woman who has experienced a tragic event that she is unable to cope with in a positive manner. The movie is about self destructive behavior, addiction and blame. Shevaun's acting is superb in every manner. Her outfits are detailed to the time period. Her beauty is never taken away from her even when she is at her lowest point. This is a movie that all who have an unfortunate event in their life should see. The settings reflect the detail of what happened once before in another time period but are relevant today. The 1940's cars hair styles, clothing and household furnishings are so detailed that it makes you feel you have traveled back in time.

kerry007uk28 May 2011
Conversations With Lucifer was not only a great shoot to work on but also a great learning tool into a subject matter that I knew so little about.

The team was supportive on our long days and the many people who contributed to the production, we thank you. (Panavision, Rob Bacon Jewelry, Real TV Films to name a few)

Shevaun did an amazing job as Darcy and I was proud to help her Produce this short film. I hope it inspires and educates others with its message.

Thank you for your support.

Conversations with Lucifer

I enjoyed watching Conversations with Lucifer. I think addiction is such a tough thing to go through but this film captures the struggle without being completely depressing, as I have seen done in other films with this subject matter. Although it is a short drama, I found it to be a thorough story with comedic relief. It was well done and Shevaun Kastl is a fantastic actress, and plays the character Darby Quinn, beautifully. She plays the entire range of emotions that come with recovery and she does so in a very natural and real way. You will definitely find yourself rooting for Darby to succeed. I am impressed. I highly recommend you see it soon!
