Sex & Nudity

  • Two men passionately kiss each other.
  • Many scenes where sex is implied - characters kissing or laying naked in bed next to each other (no nudity is seen)
  • A woman is beaten and raped. This is not shown but we hear her crying and screaming then in torn clothing later. The rape is an ongoing storyline and is mentioned frequently
  • Contains infrequent allusions of couples in bed or kissing.
  • The first season contains a storyline in which a man dies in the bed of a woman who was not his wife. His body is carried away and those responsible for concealing the circumstances behind his death are not apprehended. The details of this incident recur in later episodes.
  • A man tries to kiss another man while he is asleep. The sleeping character awakens and berates the other for their improper behaviour.
  • One character is revealed to be a prostitute, and there is discussion of the topic, however, visuals of her exploits are not depicted onscreen.

Violence & Gore

  • Some scenes showing bloody injuries or infections. These can be graphic but brief and infrequent
  • Contains infrequent moments of moderate violence, often in the form of hand-to-hand combat and war violence. Acts of violence are not depicted with any particular detail, and emphasis on pain or injury is infrequent.
  • Also contains some medical procedures that may cause discomfort in some viewers (such as fluids being drained from patient's bodies, injections etc.).
  • One episode contains scenes of implied sexual violence, where a woman is kissed against her will. When she rejects this behaviour, she is punched in the face. Shortly thereafter, she is dragged screaming through corridors, and her horrified screams can be heard off-camera. A scene that takes place shortly thereafter depicts the character in a state of distress (and her injuries are visible). She requests a change of clothes. References to this incident are alluded to throughout the remainder of the series.
  • A man attempts suicide off-camera, and he is shown unconscious, and near dead, in a blood-filled bathtub.
  • In one particularly bloody scene, a character's ulcer bursts, and they expel profuse quantities of blood from their mouth.

Profanity

  • Contains very infrequent use of mild coarse language (i.e. "bitch"), in reference to contemptuous women.
  • Also contains infrequent use of milder terms, such as "bastard".

  • Recreational consumption of tobacco and alcohol is depicted liberally throughout the series, and characters are occasionally depicted in a state of intoxication.
