Sade Adu and her eponymous band have announced they are reissuing all six of their studio albums individually. Half of the albums will be released on June 21st, with the other three arriving on September 20th.
Diamond Life (1984), Promise (1985), and Stronger Than Pride (1988) are each due out June 21st, while Love Deluxe (1992), Lovers Rock (2000), and Soldier of Love (2010) are slated for September 20th.
Just like Sade’s 2020 career-spanning box set This Far, each LP was pressed on 180-gram vinyl and remastered at half-speed at Abbey Road Studios using a method promising “exceptionally clean and detailed audio whilst remaining faithful to the band’s intended sound.” Pre-orders are ongoing.
Though Sade haven’t released an album since Soldier of Love, they did return in 2018 with “Flower of the Universe” and “The Big Unknown,” which appeared on the soundtracks to Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time and Steve McQueen’s Widows,...

Teyana Taylor had a breakout year as an actress last year, starring in “The Book of Clarence,” “White Men Can’t Jump,” and most notably her Film Independent Spirit Award-nominated performance in the brilliant “A Thousand and One.” But the R&b star is now making the leap to feature film director.
Taylor is set to make her feature directorial debut on a film called “Get Lite” that is now in development at Paramount Pictures, an individual with knowledge of the project told IndieWire. She’s cast Storm Reid in the lead role.
Reid is also producing the film through her production banner A Seed & Wings Productions, and she’ll be producing alongside “Black-ish” creator Kenya Barris via his Khalabo Ink Society. Taylor is executive producing.

Zach Galifianakis has been cast in Season 4 of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building,” Variety has learned.
Like recently announced cast member Kumail Nanjiani, Galifianakis’ role in the mystery-comedy series is currently kept under wraps. However, an individual with knowledge of the situation can confirm his character is “integral to the twist and turns of this season’s investigation.”
The three series leads remain Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez as true crime-obsessed neighbors that get caught up in real cases. Additional new faces in Season 4 include Eugene Levy, Eva Longoria and Molly Shannon. Meryl Streep, who first appeared in Season 3, will also reprise her role. Little is known about the upcoming season aside from the fact that the mystery-solving trio will make a trip to Los Angeles before returning to their native New York.

Jimmy Kimmel is ready to drink up at the Oscars.
The host of the 96th Academy Awards is planning to do a shot of Don Julio tequila during the show with his sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez.
But they might not be the only ones drinking at that moment. A source tells Variety that tequila shots will also be available for the star-studded audience of nominees and presenters. “There is supposed to be tequila at their seats,” the source said.
Not that alcohol isn’t available at the Oscars. There are several bars in the lobby areas of the theater and drinks are also available in the Rolex green room backstage.
Guillermo often offers and does shots with celebs, including Charlize Theron, Amy Adams, Channing Tatum, Eddie Redmayne, Chris Pratt and Ke Huy Quan, on the Oscar red carpet.

It isn’t every week that two of the biggest jobs in film are filled within a matter of days, but that was the case last week. On February 26, Disney’s live-action president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production Sean Bailey exited, making way for Searchlight’s David Greenbaum to take the top job. Two days later on Feb. 28, Rideback’s Dan Lin was tapped to take Scott Stuber’s open seat atop Netflix’s film division.
Greenbaum made his bones on prestige indie films and original, auteur-driven stories. He’s now taking the job at a company that has spent the last 15 years mining IP and playing the hits. Lin is a franchise builder now stepping into an environment known for chasing big prestige swings.
It appears Disney and Netflix are heading in opposite directions. One agent who spoke with IndieWire called it a role-reversal between Disney and Netflix; at one point,...

Actress Brie Larson became a household name with her portrayal of Carol Danvers a.k.a., Captain Marvel in Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actress first appeared as Captain Marvel in 2019’s Captain Marvel, which marked the studio’s first female-led film. The movie became the first female-led superhero movie to pass the billion-dollar mark.
Larson reprised her role in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and then for 2023’s The Marvels which served as the sequel to Captain Marvel. The Marvels underperformed at the box office and received a mixed response from the audience and critics. Brie Larson’s recent response upon her return as Danvers had her fans question her character’s treatment in the MCU.

The Marvels starring Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris, was a massive disappointment at the box office. The highly anticipated film that was touted to be the embodiment of feminine power, ended up being a damp squib with fans and critics brutally panning the narrative. This was an unfortunate result after the first film achieved success at the box office.
The Marvels is the 2nd film in the Captain Marvel series
With the dubious distinction of having the lowest opening weekend of any MCU film, the desire to develop another Captain Marvel film with Larson was recently dashed to the ground following information from an inside source. Fans of the franchise believed that this decision was brought on by the hate targeted towards the Captain Marvel films by hardcore male fans who were unable to accept a kickass female superhero.

Ava DuVernay has only made five narrative features, but she’s one of the busiest women in Hollywood.
Before 2023, the California-born filmmaker’s last feature was her “A Wrinkle in Time” adaptation, released in theaters in 2018 — a five-year gap between releases that’s partially attributable to projects that sputtered in development like DC’s “New Gods” film and a Prince biopic. And yet, DuVernay has remained a constant presence during that relatively long gap, translating her numerous talents to producing and TV work. She created and directed the acclaimed Netflix miniseries “When They See Us,” about the controversial Central Park Five case. Several other TV projects followed, including OWN’s “Cherish the Day,” Netflix’s “Colin in Black and White,” and The CW’s “Naomi.” But while many of those projects have been terrific, it’s great to see the director of great films like “Middle of Nowhere” and “Selma...

A young Black man (Myles Frost) leaves a convenience store just after making a purchase. He puts the hood on his sweatshirt up, and continues on his way, all the while talking to someone on the phone. He suddenly realizes that a truck has been following him as he walks, looping around the block to pass him several times. It takes a moment, but we realize what we are seeing is the moment just before the murder of Trayvon Martin, an incident that set off rallies and protests across the United States. And it’s a moment that becomes pivotal to Pulitzer Award-winning writer and journalist Isabel Wilkerson (played by Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor in the film). She’s asked to write an article about the case in light of the discovery of audio tapes shedding new light on the events of that evening. Wilkerson eventually turns down the request because, for her,...

As far as the new releases this week, we have Ava DuVernay‘s critically acclaimed drama “Origin,” starring Oscar nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (“King Richard”), which takes a look into the world of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Isabel Wilkerson, and her journey to writing 2020’s best-selling “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents.”
Co-starring Jon Bernthal, recent Emmy winners Niecy Nash-Betts and Nick Offerman, plus Finn Wittrock, Vera Farmiga and Audra McDonald, the movie has received strong reviews since it debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) last September before getting a platform Oscar-qualifying release in early December. Origin is based on Isabel Wilkerson’s 2020 bestseller Caste: The Origin of Our Discontents and tracks the Pulitzer Prize winner’s creative and personal journey over several continents through grief, revelation and the evils of historical stratification. The film draws parallels between historical and modern-day oppression and persecution across the world. By weaving global threads of cruelty and dehumanization together, it underscores the timeless – and timely – dangers of extremist ideology and leaders who exploit prejudice.

Ava DuVernay is one of the most fascinating and trailblazing filmmakers in the business.

With 2014’s Selma, the first studio film ever made about Dr. Martin Luther King, she became the first Black woman to direct a film that was nominated for the best director Golden Globe and the first Black woman to direct a film that was nominated for the best picture Oscar. Ava DuVernay returns with “Origin,” a sprawling drama that critics have hailed as the director’s most ambitious and accomplished movie. Those reviews have yet to turn the film into an awards season juggernaut — it was shut out of the Globes, AFI and other early awards — but admirers of “Origin” hope that it will eventually find its footing with Oscars voters. Neon, the indie label behind “Parasite” and “I, Tonya,” is releasing the film in theaters on Jan. 19. It had a small qualifying run last weekend.
“Origin” is an adaptation of Isabel Wilkerson’s acclaimed best-seller “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents.” It follows the author as she endures personal grief while investigating the global phenomenon of caste and the way it warps societies and sows division and hatred. Exclusive: We are hearing from sources that Origin, the new movie from Oscar nominated filmmaker Ava DuVernay, is not only the highest tested movie in her career, but for Neon, the pic’s distributor too.
Origin landed a 91 total positive in the top two boxes with an 81 definite recommend in its audience testing, outstripping Neon’s Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or and 2020 Best Picture Oscar winner, Parasite, which clocked a 91 total positive and 73 definite recommend, as well as the studio’s other Oscar winner, I, Tonya, which earned an 88 total positive, and 68 definite recommend.
We understand that the focus groups who remain after an Origin test screening are emotionally in tears, moved by what they’ve just seen, with deep conversations with other moviegoers on the pic’s social issues. The movie has an awards qualifying release in LA and NYC on Dec. 8 before opening on Jan. 19.

It's not hyperbole to call Ava DuVernay one of the most exciting storytellers working in film and TV right now. Thanks to her efforts behind the camera on the lauded Civil Rights Movement drama "Selma" and criminal justice system documentary "13th" (along with her equally revered work on the 1989 Central Park jogger case miniseries "When They See Us"), DuVernay has emerged as the leading voice in tackling issues of inequality onscreen. Even her flawed venture into fantasy filmmaking with Disney's "A Wrinkle in Time" was far and above more ambitious and interesting than any other live-action film the House of Mouse has put out over the last decade.
Now, five years after "Wrinkle" opened in theaters, DuVernay is finally back with a new feature film: "Origin." The project is based on journalist Isabel Wilkerson's acclaimed 2020 non-fiction book "Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents," which examines the history of systematic inequality across the world,...

It’s crazy to think that it’s been nine years since the release of Ava DuVernay’s Oscar-nominated film, “Selma.” And over that time, while she has produced quite a bit and even directed an acclaimed limited series, DuVernay has only released one feature film, the underwhelming “A Wrinkle in Time.” However, it would appear the filmmaker is returning in a big, big way with her new film, “Origin.”

The Venice Film Festival revealed the lineup for its 80th edition Tuesday morning, and its Official Competition featured works by five women filmmakers, including Ava DuVernay, who makes history as the first African American woman in selection.
The selected films and filmmakers are Priscilla (Sofia Coppola), Origin (Ava DuVernay), The Green Border (Agnieszka Holland), Woman Of, and Holly (Fien Troch).
There are 23 films in Competition overall, meaning the fest falls far below any sort of gender parity mark. The festival said 32% of submissions this year were from women filmmakers against 66% from male filmmakers. 60 movies did not declare a gender. Nonetheless, DuVernay’s Origin will mark a significant landmark for Venice as the first film by an African American woman to play in Competition.

Ava DuVernay and Warner Bros. Television are parting ways.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the prolific multihyphenate has opted to end her overall deal with the studio following the conclusion of her five-year deal. The rich pact, which DuVernay signed in late 2018, officially ends May 31. Insiders say DuVernay is expected to focus more on her current film slate. It’s unclear if the writer-director-producer behind Caste and helmer of A Wrinkle in Time will set up shop with a TV deal elsewhere.
Sources say Warners and DuVernay’s decision to let the deal expire was a mutual one and was made months ago — before studios suspended overall deals with writers amid the ongoing labor strife between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which represents the studios and streamers.

As an actor, Chris Pine has a particular talent. When it comes to playing dazzling, cocksure characters, Pine is a natural. He's played his share of cads and scoundrels, but he never comes across as unlikeable or villainous. It certainly helps that Pine is possessed of movie matinee idol good looks, allowing his charming smiles to inform the characters he plays.
In Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley's new film "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves," Pine plays Edgin Darvis, a former bard in a fantasy kingdom who turns to thievery to survive. He is raising a teenage daughter named Kira (Chloe Coleman) and, following the death of his wife, forms a coalition of thieves to steal from the rich.
At the beginning of the film, Edgin is in prison with his best friend Holga Kilgore (Michelle Rodriguez) after a heist of theirs went awry. The two have an elaborate ploy to escape,...

Child stars are a significant part of Hollywood. But sometimes, these young actors hit it big at an early age and then seem to vanish shortly after. One of example is David Dorfman from The Ring.
Horror movie fans will remember Dorfman as the creepy and iconic Aidan Keller in the horror movie The Ring. As the eerie boy who predicted people’s deaths, the young actor stood out in the movie franchise. However, many people do not know was a child prodigy who went to college at 13. Today, Dorfman is working for the government and leading a life far removed from Hollywood’s limelight.

Did you know that David Dorfman, the creepy kid in The Ring and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre went to college at 13, graduated UCLA with a perfect Gpa, got a J.D. from Harvard, and now works at the U.

Women have broken into many acting, producing, and directorial ventures in the recent past — think Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and those at her company — the animated film sector continues to have a pretty thick glass ceiling. That’s especially true at Disney and its adjacent companies, where only three women have directed feature-length animated movies.
That said, a few women have begun cracking the ceiling and forging paths. As they go, they’re creating storylines and beloved characters that put more women at the forefront. The proof speaks for itself: Women-directed animated projects at Disney have generated some of the biggest box office numbers.

Bridesmaids starring Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig is an excellent movie that shocked the industry with its success at the box office in 2011. It made over $306 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film produced by Judd Apatow.
The brilliance of Bridesmaids lies in the electric chemistry among its ensemble, but the cast could’ve included different comedic actors. After becoming a household name in The Office, Mindy Kaling auditioned to co-star in the movie. Unfortunately, she lost out on the part to Maya Rudolph.

The post contains spoilers for "The Last Of Us" episode 7.
The time for headlines about how "The Last Of Us" broke the video game adaptation curse has passed. It was never really accurate anyway, as there have been great video game adaptations before "The Last Of Us," and there will be great ones after. But this week's episode of the series really does break new ground, doing something few if any adaptations have before: proving that not just games, but even downloadable expansion packs, can make for excellent TV, too.
For newcomers to the series, the latest episode of "The Last Of Us" probably feels pretty in step with the rest of the show. Sure, it follows in the TV tradition of a latter-season flashback that singles out and deepens one character's storyline, but it's no more off the beaten path than the Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett...

The "Ant-Man" movies have always been kind of an outlier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They tend to focus on everyday people reacting to larger-than-life comic book stories. After over a decade of Marvel movies, most of them have escalated to the point where their characters don't feel like just regular people with superpowers anymore, the way they do in the comics, but the "Ant-Man" movies always did. The supporting cast is comprised of regular citizens who are not related to the superhero life, so when the superheroic battles and mayhem arrives, it always felt dangerous and important.
That was until "Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania," by far the biggest, weirdest movie in the trilogy, and one that trades fun wacky grounded characters like Michael Peña's Luis for a bunch of sci-fi creatures that look straight out of a "Rick and Morty" episode. Zach Galifianakis will star in a live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch for Disney+, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Dean Fleischer Camp, director of the Oscar-nominated Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, will helm the production.
Released in 2002, Lilo & Stitch tells the story of Hawaiin girl Lilo, her legal guardian and older sister Nani, and Experiment 626, a lovable extraterrestrial adopted by Lilo as her dog. Details about Galifianakis’ role are being kept on a tight leash, but the Baskets and Between Two Ferns comedian could play anyone from Stitch itself to one of the intergalactic weirdos tasked with bringing Stitch home, such as Dr. Jumba Jookiba or Agent Wendy Pleakley.
Disney is reportedly engaged in a deep search for the young actors to play Lilo and Nani. Many or all of the aliens, including Stitch, will be CGI generated.

Zach Galifianakis has closed a deal to star in Lilo & Stitch, Disney’s live-action remake of its cult 2002 animated movie.
Dean Fleischer Camp, the filmmaker behind indie darling and best animated Oscar nominee Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, is directing the feature that is intended to be a major release on Disney+.
The Hawaii-centric story told of the bond formed between a lonely human girl named Lilo and a dog-like alien named Stitch, who was genetically engineered to be a force of destruction. With nosy social workers and pursuing aliens banging on the door, the two bonded over a shared sense of family and win the day.
Details of Galifianakis’ role are being kept in the dog pound.
The studio is conducting a wide search for the actors to play Lilo and her older sister. Stitch, naturally, will be a CG confection.
Chris Kekaniokalani Bright wrote the script for the adaptation.

Tony winners Audra McDonald and Myles Frost have joined Aunjanue Ellis in Ava DuVernay’s next feature.
DuVernay is writing and directing the movie based on Isabel Wilkerson’s book, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontent. Ellis, who was nominated for an Oscar for her work in King Richard, was earlier announced for the leading role in the film adaptation now shooting in Georgia.
Wilkerson’s non-fiction book is told through multiple real-life stories and examines how America, throughout its history, has been shaped by caste system, a human hierarchy that dates back generations but still affects our present day.
McDonald has earned six Tony awards. Her screen work includes A Raisin in the Sun, Private Practice and The Good Fight. In 2016, McDonald was awarded the National Medal of Arts by President Barack Obama.
Frost won the 2022 Tony Award for best actor in a musical for playing Michael Jackson in Mj The Musical on Broadway.

Between Warner Bros. axing her DC Comics movie, "New Gods," Netflix dropping her fantasy novel series adaptation, "Wings of Fire," and The CW canceling her DC superhero drama, "Naomi," it feels like it's been way too long since Ava DuVernay got to make headlines for good reasons. Thankfully, that changes with the celebrated storyteller's next directorial feature, "Caste," which began filming in December 2022 in Georgia ahead of planned shoots in Germany and India. This would be the "Selma" filmmaker's first time behind the camera on a full-length movie since her 2018 Disney fantasy adventure, "A Wrinkle in Time".
To her credit, DuVernay hasn't allowed those various cancelations to slow her down. Quite the opposite, she wrapped up her familial drama series "Queen Sugar" while also helming part of HBO Max's "Dmz" comic book miniseries adaptation over that same period of time (among other things — more on that to come). "Caste...
