OK for when there's nothing else

I've found this movie entertaining enough but I wouldn't recommend it as an 'amazing Argentine comedy', it does the job though.

The problem with this movie is that it's way too cliché-ed, almost every single scene, problem, and character is a cliché, this makes it predictable, which is OK for a silly comedy but for a 2010 movie it's getting pretty old.

Suar's acting is either regular or just weird, every scene where he's dancing in a club looks like an SNL sketch, a very silly one, too silly to be funny or may be I didn't get his humor but there are definitively some weird scenes/jokes that the movie could do without.

The movie doesn't have any kind of impact, there are no remarkable scenes and the characters are all average, I feel this movie is like 'Un novio para mi mujer' (with Adrian Suar too) but not as good.

A Bit of Fluff from Argentina
gradyharp21 October 2012
IGUALITA A MI ('Just Like Me') is currently on the Video on Demand cycle of the television screens and soon will be picked up by Amazon Video on Demand. It is a fairly well done 'family comedy' that is full of clichés but the cast seems to be enjoying it so the audience does too. Written by star Adrián Suar assisted by Juan Vera, Daniel Cúparo and Mariano Vera and directed very casually by Diego Kaplan the story is a much used one placed in contemporary situations.

Freddy (Adrián Suar) is a single man in his early forties who plays the field by keeping himself young in appearance (it seems he spends much of his time having his hair dyed by his close friend who finds him attractive) and spending his nights in the clubs dancing with young women. He is in a semi-professional business with his brother converting apartments to condos at the expense of the tenants. All goes fairly well until he meets a young 23 year girl Aylin (Florencia Bertotti) who has traveled from the provinces to search for her birth father whom she (an her mother) don't know. Aylin has narrowed the field to three an of course Freddy is her long lost father (Freddy was completely unaware of having a child). The relationship is confirmed by DNA tests and at the same time Aylin discovers she is pregnant! From there the story is one of Freddy's gradual taking on the role of being Aylin's father and a soon to be grandfather. Conflicts arise on both sides of the family - Freddy's parents meet Aylin and encourage becoming great grandparents while Ailyn's gross mother and her loser boyfriend turn up to muddy the waters. How the story plays out is predictable, especially in the way Freddy manages to take a new view of his Casanova life style but still allows some 'Awwwww' feelings in the end. This is a simple story, simply made and is not a bad evening's 'feel good' movie'.

Amazing comedy.

First, I'm sorry about my bad English. I will post the English and Spanish review.

I was hoping not to fall asleep and, out of nowhere, i found a hilarious comedy. The whole theater laughing almost constantly. With an original story and something quite predictable (which almost does not matter, because you don't have much time to think what comes next), i have no doubt that is one of the jewels of the Argentine film this year. Suar character embodies this more fun than "un novio para mi mujer" and I was impressed by this. Even so, Bertotti is the one who surprised me most, I am happy to know she can play characters more serious than his last telenovels irritating characters (Floricienta and Nini). The secondary characters are great and fit perfectly.

This one is one of those movies that make me believe that the Argentine cinema is getting better.

I recommend you see it without reading the synopsis. you will enjoy it more.

9 / 10. Definitely in my top10 Argentinian movies.
