Warning: Spoilers
I had looked forward to watching the documentary "Lost Tombs of the Ancient Maya" on a British channel in December 2021.

As a former tour guide in Mexico I became deeply interested in pre-Colombian cultures, among which the Maya.

Hence, I was very interested in seeing this documentary.

Though some aspects of it were intriguing, I found the documentary very disappointing.

The main reason is that the voice-over time and again suggests that some mystery may be solved, creating an expectation in one's mind that indeed the answer will soon be revealed.

Teams are digging up soil, scanning the inside of a temple, talking about volcano eruptions, looking at skulls... and that is it. There are no revelations.

This tiring procedure goes on all the way until the end of the documentary, and finally nothing is revealed, no new answers are given to the big question "Why did the Mayas disappear?" What is the purpose of creating these expectations if no answers are given?

It is very frustrating.

It would have been more honest to tell the viewer that this documentary is about the ongoing research instead of creating false expectations.

As such, I have wasted my time and I feel disappointed.
