Mena Suvari's character's name in this episode is Allison Cowley, which also happens to be the name of Timothy Omundson's real-life wife.
Peter Weller's character Yin is a professor of romance literature and Weller himself is actually a professor of romance literature at Syracuse University.
Yin tells Shawn and Gus, "no use crying over spilled soda." He uses that same phrase in a note left for them in the previous installment after Shawn knocks over the soda at the movie theater.
Spot the Pineapple: one can be seen in the grocery bag Yang leaves in her vehicle, and another one can be seen as a napkin holder on the counter in Henry's kitchen.
At the end of "Mr. Yin Presents," Yin strokes a picture of Yang standing with Young Shawn. In this episode the picture is shown again, but there is one major difference. The background is the same, and Yang is still reaching her arm around Young Shawn. However, Skyler Gisondo, who portrayed Young Shawn starting in season five, was in this picture in the place of Liam James, who portrayed Young Shawn in seasons one to four and was in the picture in "Mr. Yin Presents." Lassiter even comments that the photo looks photoshopped.
