Siskel & Ebert (1999)
Season 4, Episode 12
NATIONAL LAMPOON'S CHRISTMAS VACATION, Roger Moore's ROGER & ME, TRIUMPH OF THE SPIRIT, MYSTERY TRAIN and THELONIUS MONK: STRAIGHT NO CHASER are the five films reviewed on this week's episode of Siskel and Ebert. The two's favorite film this week was ROGER & ME, which would end up being on both of their lists for one of the best movies of the year. There's a big disagreement on THELONIUS MONK, which gets into a fun discussion. The highlight of the episode to most will be both ciritics giving a thumbs down to NATIONAL LAMPOON'S CHRISTMAS VACATION. It seems both are unhappy that there wasn't an actual vacation in the film but I always thought the film covered that very well. I also thought the film delivered a lot of nice laughs and was surprised to see both critics say they'd rather have more of the same (a vacation) instead of them doing something new.
