- TriviaThe flashback showing Sam being prevented from operating on her own father after he was shot is likely not only hospital policy, but also an allusion to a famous brain-teaser in which a father and son are injured in an accident. When the boy is brought into the operating room, the surgeon says that she cannot operate on this patient as he is her son. [the surgeon is his mother]

Tone Deaf
I watched a couple more episodes to see if the show improved as I do like Sophia Bush. Sadly it did not. The series could have ended on a five episode arc. For me the problem with the show is it does not depict the real struggles of a strong female doctor as her antagonist is her father. He is such an unlikeable person, not only sleeping with a female resident he is supervising but who is also his daughter's best friend. Not to mention the female resident made poor decisions too. The diverse cast is essentially window dressing for the two main characters of Sam and her father.
Sam is a legacy doctor working in a hospital her parents apparently founded. So essentially we are seeing a rich girl's problems .. a lost opportunity to show struggles of females trying to make it in a profession where about 75% of surgeons are male. The show was written in 2019 before CoVid and it shows. Too much focus on donors and glitzy parties etc. Fancy hospital setting. A tone deafness to the state her health care is in as well as the exhaustive hours our doctors and nurses have been putting in the last 2 years dealing with a pandemic. No healthcare worker has time to go sit in ice baths in the PT department during work or would be so unprofessional as to argue in front of patients over who's in charge. This happens only in the minds of writers that are completely out of touch with the real world.
