Peyton's headphones are representative of her old self (that is broken), that she tries to hold on to. In the opening credits, we see a door closing on the headphones, representative of her discarding her old self and welcoming the change that is taking over her.
Over 80% of the film is shot in close-ups to emphasize Peyton's disconnected and fractured mindset.
For the first half of the film, Peyton does not meet another character within the same frame. This is to show her inner struggle to connect with others around her. Her descent into darkness is exacerbated when other characters begin to appear in the same frame as her; intruding on her personal space.
Daniel Matthews (Caine York) and Natasha Jade Pountney (Peyton Geller) were not on set at the same times for the earlier scenes of the film. They shot these scenes separately and their shots were sutured together in post-production. The only time they were filmed together is in the very last scene of the film.
The color red is a recurring symbol throughout the film. The further into the story we go, the more red takes over. It symbolizes the slowly creeping change that is taking over Peyton's life.
