Fans of the Netflix fantasy series The Witcher should be filled with glee right now. After all, the world's biggest streaming service has axed a lot of fantasy shows in the last few years, including well-received ones like Shadow & Bone and Warrior Nun.
But The Witcher proved too popular to purge, due in part to the massive star appeal of Henry Cavill as the lead character, monster hunter Geralt of Rivia. And while fans of other fantasy shows are mourning their cancellations, The Witcher has been confirmed for two more seasons.
But its fans are more nervous than excited.
Cavill Out, Hemsworth In
In spite of his leading-man Hollywood cred, Henry Cavill is a self-proclaimed fantasy nerd. He campaigned hard for the role of Geralt and was open about his passion for the story. But creative differences soon caused friction on set, especially as the storyline of The Witcher...

While several big-budget movies have experienced quite a bit of trouble at the box office both this year and since the pandemic first started in general, one genre continues to stay afloat consistently: horror. And when such movies are geared toward younger audiences and inspired by source material with a rabid fanbase to begin with? Well, that's when you know you probably have a hit on your hands.
That's exactly what happened with "Five Nights at Freddy's," the movie based on the cult video game franchise that promptly smashed box office records the weekend of its release. Not even a thorough critical lashing could stop this runaway hit in its tracks, adding another appropriately irreverent layer to a phenomenon that's likely to become a gateway film for young horror fans everywhere. But in an interesting wrinkle, "Five Nights at Freddy's" opted for a hybrid release both in theaters and on...

The Indian parliament has passed the Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill, which aims to curb piracy that causes losses of INR200 billion ($2.4 billion) to the film industry, according to government estimates. Those found guilty of film piracy by way of camcording in theaters or unauthorized copying and online transmission and exhibition of a pirated copy of any film will now face punishment of minimum three months imprisonment and a fine of $3,650, which can be extended up to three years imprisonment and fine up to 5% of the audited gross production cost.
The bill also introduces age-based categories of certification by further sub-dividing the existing UA category into seven years (UA 7+), 13 years (UA 13+) and 16 years (UA 16+), instead of 12 years. These age-based markers are recommendatory only, meant for the parents or guardians to consider whether their children should view a film. The hits keep coming for Elizabeth Banks: she'll star as a female war photographer shot down and stranded on an island in the South Pacific during World War II in "Rita Hayworth with a Hand Grenade." The film, directed by former art director and set designer Sloane U'Ren ("Being John Malkovich") from a script by Antony Neely (with whom U'Ren collaborated on her directorial debut, "Dimensions"), begins shooting next spring. "Rita Hayworth with a Hand Grenade" finds Banks' character deserted except for a lone Japanese soldier, with whom she must ally in order to survive despite being on opposite sides of the conflict. Frequent Coen brothers' collaborator Robert Graf will produce. Read More: "Elizabeth Banks Saves Brian Wilson as 'Love & Mercy' Hero Melinda Ledbetter (Exclusive Video)" The news caps off a brilliant year for Banks. When I received a link to the Project Chronos blog, I was, obviously, intrigued. A government conspiracy related to a history of dabbling in time travel? Colour me interested. Well, before you call the Daily Mail, it turns out that Project Chronos is a fictional companion piece to Ant Neely's brillirant looking Dimensions: A Line, A Loop, A Tangle of Threads which we've been following for a while now.
The film is on the eve of its USA theatrical tour which begins 9th/10th October in Los Angeles (Other territories will get the film on the 18th October via Distrify and Vimeo). So, leading up to the release, Project C [Continued ...]...

Henry Lloyd-Hughes is set to star alongside Mia Wasikowska in a new film adaptation of the Gustave Flaubert novel Madame Bovary.
28 year old Henry (represented in the UK by Curtis Brown) will play Charles Bovary, the provincial doctor husband of Emma (Mia Wasikowska) who endeavors to love her despite her revolt against the ordinariness of her life.
He's best known to TV audiences as Mark Donovan from The Inbetweeners, and played Kenneth Hume opposite Ruth Negga in the Shirley Bassey biopic, but after starring in British indies Weekender and period time-travel drama Dimensions, this is his first major leading international film role.
This new adaptation of the classic novel by Rose Barreneche is described as a period piece that will remain faithful to Gustave Flaubert’s original story, but will be "a fresh retelling, emphasizing the more youthful and contemporary themes."
Madame Bovary will also star Paul Giamatti, Rhys Ifans and Ezra Miller.

Timo Vuorensola's Nazi space romp is the most high-profile film to use crowdsourcing for both development and finances. Is this to blame for those lukewarm reviews?
If you've ever fancied yourself as a Hollywood screenwriter, producer or even star, the film section of crowdfunding site IndieGoGo might just be the place for you. Browse through the fledgling movie projects touting for cash in the past few months, and you might have come upon opportunities to pick up a writer's credit for $50 on the British post-apocalyptic drama Remnants of a Disaster, or an executive producer's credit on the Kiwi documentary God Is Incredible for $500. The director of comic book tale Super Day recently promised to shave his head if the film's campaign reached its $3,500 target, with donors permitted to scribble their names on his newly bald pate.

Among the highlights of this year's festival is a period drama with a time-travel twist. Think Merchant Ivory, only steampunk
The annual Sci Fi London festival, which is running until Monday at several venues in the capital, always throws up more than its fair share of offbeat genre treats. One of this year's highlights is a period brainteaser with an intriguing time-travel twist that has already picked up awards from the Boston science fiction film festival and the London independent film festival. Dimensions: A Line, A Loop, A Tangle of Threads also benefits from a plucky backstory surrounding its husband-and-wife creative team. Director Sloane U'Ren and writer/composer Ant Neely sold their Twickenham home to help finance the tiny £180,000 budget, and most of the film is shot at the riverside Cambridgeshire home of Neely's brother.

Some excellent news from the 37th Boston Science Fiction Film Festival where a film we’ve been following for a while now picked up the Best Film award, a distinction picked up by a certain Duncan Jones a few years ago for Moon.
The film is Dimensions: A Line, A Loop, A Tangle of Threads and it is the results of many years hard work and passion from director Sloane U’Ren and writer Ant Neely, who produced the film together. It deals with a scientist obsessed with the idea of going back in time to revisit a particular moment in his childhood and from the trailer below it looks to be a sumptuous affair.
Inbetweeners fans may recognise the lead actor, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, and he appears alongside Camilla Rutherford, Patrick Godfrey and Olivia Llewellyn. It’s certainly one to keep an eye on – it’ll play in March...

The 25-year-old rapper-turned-actor and star of the film Weekender
Who's this handsome devil then? David Miliband, Shirley Bassey's husband, and the bully from The Inbetweeners. It's Henry Lloyd-Hughes, rapper turned excellent actor.
Rapper? I know, so clean cut, so James Dean-esque, but he has a damn fine singing voice and he also plays the drums, hence the guns.
Phwoar. Stop it. You've seen him in Miliband of Brothers and the BBC's Bassey biopic, but look forward to seeing a whole lot more of him in the future – the "period sci-fi drama" Dimensions, co-starring Camilla Rutherford and Patrick Godfrey; Roland Emmerich's Anonymous, on the life of Shakespeare; and Anna Karenina, opposite Jude Law and Keira Knightley. Our favourite role so far is as a 90s raver in the film Weekender.
He says: "I wish I looked a bit more like Bruce Springsteen – I'd love to play him in a biopic of his life.

Dimensions Teaser Trailer. Ant Neely, Sloane U’Ren‘s Dimensions (2011) teaser trailer stars Camilla Rutherford, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Patrick Godfrey, Shaun Lucas, and Olivia Llewellyn. Dimensions‘ plot synopsis: “Stephen is a brilliant young boy who lives in Cambridge, England, in what appears to be the 1920s – but nothing in Stephen’s life is quite as it seems. His world is turned upside down upon meeting a charismatic and inspirational professor at a garden party who demonstrates to Stephen and his friends what life would be like if they themselves were merely one, or two, dimensional beings. He then proceeds to explain that by manipulating other dimensions, time travel may actually be possible.
As Stephen’s life unfolds, events lead him to dedicate himself to turning the Professor’s theories of time travel into reality. Jealousy, love, obsession, temptation and greed surround him, influencing his fragile mind and the direction of his work.

Science fiction and period costume drama rarely mix, which is strange because I think the latter can add a sumptuous new layer that we rarely see in scifi. We saw it with The Prestige and on some level I think we see it in Andrew Niccol's films like Gattaca.
A new scifi film from the UK called Dimensions is blending the two genres in a unique story that seems to involve time travel. The film's husband and wife directing duo, Ant Neely & Sloane U.Ren, describe the film as "a cross between H.G. Wells. Time Machine and A Beautiful Mind".

Check out the beautiful trailer below for Dimensions, the first feature film from husband and wife writer/director team Ant Neely and Sloane U’Ren who sold their house to finance the period/sci fi drama.
Taking the lead role of Stephen is The Inbetweeners actor Henry Lloyd-Hughes (represented by Curtis Brown), who can also be seen this year in Weekender.

The film also introduces three new child actors from Cambridgeshire: Sam Harrison as the young Stephen Hannah Carson as Victoria and George Thomas as the young Conrad. Ant Neely said of their casting process:
