At the beginning all the men that will be tried are mentioned. When they hear their sentence, Arthur Seyss-Inquart is left out and neither is his execution seen. In reality he was also given the death-sentence.
Burton C. Andrus stated in his book that he did not witness the executions however, the movie showed him in the gym. Also, Goering committed suicide two hours prior to the executions. The movie shows a defendant on the way to the gallows as he committed suicide. No pictures were taken of the drop only one picture of each of the executed bodies on the coffin were taken. Finally, there were bright lights shined in each cell through a large opening on the cell doors whereas the movie indicates there were only peep holes.
The verdicts and sentences were pronounced together with all defendants present. In reality, verdicts and sentences were pronounced separately and the defendants were called one at a time into the courtroom to learn their sentence. Andrus was not present at the executions.
The testimony of Ernst Kaltenbrunner, as depicted in the series, in no way resembles the actual court room exchange in 1946. Kaltenbrunner never denied being at Mauthausen, nor did he shout at the prosecutor that the charges against him were lies. In reality, Kaltenbrunner's main defense was that he was a little known police general, who had inherited criminal programs from the likes of Reinhard Heydrich and Heinrich Himmler, to which Kaltenbrunner knew little or nothing about. The defense did not save him, and he was found guilty of war crimes and executed.
On the map of the concentration camps/death camps at the back of the courtroom the Polish name for Auschwitz is misspelt. It should read Oswiecim, with an accent on the 's' and a tail on the 'e', a 'z' jas been added (OswiecZim in the film). Sobibor is also missing, and whilst the map may not have all the camps on it (e.g Theresienstadt is also omitted), Sobibor as one of six designated 'Death' Camps (Auschwitz/Birkenhau, Belzec, Chelmno, Majdanek, Treblinka and Sobibor) would not have been omitted.
When Goering receives his sentence he sits down however, newsreels of the real Goering shows he turns and leaves the courtroom.
As Brian Cox lies dead as Goering, his eyes move.
