"Everyone has an Expiration Date." That's the tagline for a new indie film hailing from South Africa. The trailer we received a look at today certainly looks slick.
Directed by Alastair Orr, the film goes like this: Four applicants, with their own hidden agendas, are accepted by a mysterious corporation to participate in a medical experiment at an isolated testing facility. With no instructions and no supplies, the human lab rats must fend for themselves and figure out what part of the experiment each one is playing. When the corporation becomes aware that a pregnant intruder has infiltrated the facility, they send in armored guards to clean up the mess. However, loyalties are tested when the guards learn the truth about the experiments and begin to turn on the corporation. Hidden truths about the different players and why they all signed up for the tests are revealed as their situation becomes increasingly dire.

WonderPhil Productions is a film marketer based in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Their latest title is Rancid, a film from director Alastair Orr (The Unforgiving). This is a sci-fi thriller that puts four test subjects in a perilous situation. A corporation is testing a new drug, which accidently or intentionally (it is not explained) turns some of the participants into blood craving monsters. The experiment breaks down, while hired guns try to regain control. The soundtrack heightens the tension, with Rancid setting itself up to be on this reviewer's must-see list.
Rancid stars Brandan Auret of District 9, Ryan Macquet (One Way) and Christien Le Roux. This is an early preview of a film whose major crux involves the players' "hidden truths" (WonderPhil) or reason for signing up for the project. They must be desperate. As well, there is mention of a "pregnant intruder," which needs more background to be discussed.

South-Africa might not have the most booming movie scene on the planet, from time to time some really interesting stuff is coming from over there. Just last year blockbuster District 9 stormed the world by force, now it's time for low-budget genre flick The Unforgiving to make a name for itself. World domination may be out of reach for this film, but signs of a respectable cult audience are lurking right around the corner. Director Alastair Orr must've had a clear vision when he started with this film, as it's been quite a while since I've seen a horror flick this bold and brash. From the very first frames Orr seems very much in control of his film and he doesn't let go until the...
