When Ron Mare, the SVP of casting at Magical Elves, learned about the “World All-Stars” theme for “Top Chef’s” milestone 20th season, he knew that Bravo — and viewers — wanted the best of the best.
On one hand, drawing from a pool of only past winners and runner-ups made things a little easier. But this wasn’t just an “All-Stars” season, it was a “World All-Stars” season. So Mare and his team had to expand their search to include talent from across the globe, including Asia, Emea and South America.
“Time zones,” the casting veteran replied when asked what the biggest challenge of casting Season 20 was. “It was definitely a difficult thing to pull together.”

Last week’s episode of “Top Chef: World All-Stars,” “Top Chef is No Picnic,” started with 10 contestants, and it ended with … 10 contestants. But it wasn’t the same 10. “Top Chef Canada” alum Dale MacKay returned to the competition after fighting his way back through “Last Chance Kitchen,” and then “Top Chef Poland’s” Sylwia Stachyra was eliminated after a sandwich cookoff against Tom Goetter. So what kind of turbulence was in store for the chefs in episode seven, “Hands Off.” Read on to find out.
The 10 remaining competitors playing for the $250,000 grand prize are Ali Ghzawi (Middle East and North Africa), Sara Bradley (Kentucky), Charbel Hayek (Middle East and North Africa), Victoire Gouloubi (Italy), Dale MacKay (Canada), Buddha Lo (Houston), Tom Goetter (Germany), Gabriel Rodriguez (Mexico), Amar Santana (California), and Nicole Gomes (Canada).

Will “Top Chef Mexico” winner Gabri Rodriguez be eliminated from the competition tonight in episode seven of “Top Chef: World All-Stars”? That’s what fans think who have placed their bets over the last week here in our predictions center. Make or update your own forecasts before tonight’s show.
Indeed, no one has been on as much of a roller coaster as Rodriguez. He’s the only chef who has been at the top or the bottom for all six challenges this season so far. Overall he has been at the bottom four times, more than any other chef this season. That includes the last three challenges in a row. He was on the losing team in “Spurred Lines” and had to compete in a cookoff to stay in the competition. Then his emotions got the better of him when making a mole in “Holiday Vacation.” And he was...

We’re almost halfway through “Top Chef: World All-Stars,” so we’re getting a better and better idea of how the competition is shaping up. Some chefs have been all over the map, and some were eliminated suddenly after earlier rock-star culinary performances — pour one out for Begoña Rodrigo — but there are four who have never once landed at the bottom in an Elimination Challenge. Will one of them be the eventual winner?
The first lucky chef is Charbel Hayek. The “Top Chef Middle East and North Africa” alum actually won the very first challenge of the season, “London Calling.” He has been safe in every challenge since, and he aced the team battles in “Spurred Lines” and “Top Chef is No Picnic.”

There was a double elimination in “Top Chef” episode three, “Cheeky Pints and Pub Bites“: “Top Chef Thailand” finalist May Phattanant Thongthong and “Top Chef Canada” winner Dale MacKay were ousted together for their soggy Scotch egg. So who’s next on the chopping block? “Top Chef” fans have been placing their bets here in our predictions center. You can make or update your own predictions until tonight’s show.
Both ousters took us by surprise last week. Thongthong ranked third in our predictions with 5/1 odds of elimination, so we knew that was in the realm of possibility, but we’d ranked MacKay eighth with 46/1 odds. It was the first time either chef got a low score from the judges during an Elimination Challenge, so it was hard to anticipate that both would sink to the bottom so quickly.
That’s part of what makes the show so competitive.

For Top Chef Season 20, contestants who competed in international versions of the Bravo cooking competition show, including many who won or finished in the finals, returned for World All-Stars. By episode 3, four chefs have been eliminated from the main competition. However, they can win their way back into the game by competing in Last Chance Kitchen. Two chefs have already been officially eliminated.
Samuel Albert is the first officially eliminated from ‘Top Chef: World All-Stars’
Top Chef: France winner Samuel Albert was the first eliminated when he failed to deliver in the vegetable-forward dish challenge. He faced Top Chef: Portland finalist Dawn Burrell in the first episode of Last Chance Kitchen as her crispy rice cut her from the main competition.
The two were tasked with recreating their former winning dishes using the same protein in 30 minutes. Sam decided to incorporate his Japanese French fusion into the salmon-based dish, but the time constraint concerned him.

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has ordered Big Brother contestant and VH1 Famous Food host Mike Malin to fork over $323,689 after losing a claim that attorney Marty Singer had extorted him. The case made waves in the Hollywood legal community and beyond when it went up to a California appeals court last year. Malin had a restaurant business enterprise with Shereen Arazm, a judge on Top Chef Canada. Allegedly, money went missing, and Singer warned Malin via letter that a lawsuit would be filed if the money wasn't returned. He specifically wrote, "I have deliberately left blank spaces

Shaw Media is trying to get back in the game after its so-so year, and with several new buzzworthy dramas debuting on Global TV this fall, the network has announced loudly that it is ready to play. Hard.
Global is hoping "Last Resort," the latest offering from executive producer Shawn Ryan ("The Shield"), will perform better than "The Chicago Code" did -- and hopefully Canadian Scott Speedman ("Felicity") will help. But considering how awesome "Tcc" was, yet it was still cancelled, I'm a little worried for the fate of "Last Resort."
Speaking of awesome and "The Shield," Michael Chiklis, along with Dennis Quaid, headline "Vegas," which takes place in the 1960s. The other must-see is "Elementary," a modern take on the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Watson -- this time played by Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu, respectively -- as they try and solve the NYPD's toughest cases.

Viewers hungry for a second helping of contestants showcasing their culinary chops, wait no longer.
"Top Chef Canada" returns tonight for more cooking mayhem as 16 talented new chefs compete in various quick-fire challenges and elimination rounds. As usual, for this second season, at stake is $100,000, a Monogram kitchen and the title of Top Chef. Judge and esteemed chef Mark McEwan spoke exclusively to The Huffington Post TV Canada about food, egos and the recipe for success ... and disaster.
How would you compare the talent from season two to last year's group?
Mark McEwan: We have a wider group of talented chefs this year. I thought last year the cooking took a little while to narrow them down. This year, it narrowed down very, very quickly. It was rigorous, there were a lot of tears, there was anger, there was frustration and completely different approaches to the day, that's for sure.

It’s the Top Chef Texas Finale, entitled “Finale,” because it is actually, seriously the very last episode of Top Chef Season 9 – no more snowy nonsense, no more Last Chance Redemption Island Of Temptation The Benefactor All-Stars, it’s just Sarah Grueneberg and Paul Qui competing to see who is the better chef: Paul, or Paul and also Bravo made a giant mistake. Sarah kicks things off by declaring “This is the goal I’ve had this entire competition.” She is Locked In. That is also the goal of literally everyone who has ever gone on Top Chef or any competition show. No one’s ever been like, “My goal is to make some friends, cook other peoples’ food, then get eliminated in Week 3 cooking a risotto that represents Daniel Boone’s courage then release a sex tape.” Tom explains that for the final challenge, each chef will design...

Now that you've heard the news about Top Chef Canada's second season, you're probably wondering the same thing we are -- just who are these chefs?
The contestants come from across Canada, representing almost every food background imaginable. Well, except for the East Coast, which will be sorely missed after Todd Perrin's inventiveness last year. Here's what the Huffington Post Canada found out about these 16 chefs who will be competing on Food Network Canada starting March 12.
Chef: Joel Aubie, 27, of Tofino, BC (originally from Bathurst, Nb)
Aubie currently works as the head chef at Shelter restaurant in Tofino, having worked his way up since its opening in 2007. As a restaurant on the edge of the coast's famous beach, he focuses on seafood, with an emphasis on local and organic ingredients. He might just find it a challenge cooking from Loblaws' shelves during the competition.

It's been months since Food Network Canada announced it was serving up another helping of "Top Chef Canada," but there were a couple of ingredients missing: its season 1 host, Thea Andrews, and its exact return date.

The new season premieres March 12 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt and, according to a network release, it will boast bigger, more intense challenges and surprise twists that the 16 new chefs will have to tackle.
