The Met Gala is always about who turned up, what they were wearing — and who didn’t show. This year, there were a number of fashionistas fans missed seeing on fashion’s biggest night.
Rihanna
Surprise! Always one of, if not the most anticipated guest at the Met Gala every year is RiRi. Though many had expected her to attend this year, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that she stayed home due to an unexpected bout with the flu following an appearance in Miami over the weekend for the Formula 1 race. The news, first reported by People, came as a shock and broke late in the night while the carpet was full of stars and photographers. Rihanna had even teased her strategy for this year’s event, telling Extra that she had planned to keep it “real simple.” The flu made it much more complicated.

It’s been a rough few weeks for indies but May is here with a handful of hopefuls looking to rev up the market — from A24’s buzzy I Saw The TV Glow to Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s Venice award-winning Evil Does Not Exist. A documentary about Anita Pallenberg featuring Scarlett Johansson hits theaters, with a French animated sci-fi set on Mars, and a Flannery O’Conner biopic by Ethan Hawke.
I Saw The TV Glow is written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun (We’re All Going To The World’s Fair) and produced by Emma Stone under her Fruit Tree Banner. The horror-thriller that gripped Sundance (Deadline review called it a “trippy gut punch”) then SXSW follows a teenager named Owen trying to make it through life in the suburbs. The weirdness starts when his classmate introduces him to a mysterious late-night TV show, a vision of a supernatural world beneath their own.

With its list of new releases for February 2023, Disney+ is going all out to honor one of the biggest Marvel movies of the past year (and the one with the studio’s best Oscar chances yet).

Following the streaming arrival of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the Panther party is just getting started. Feb. 8 sees the arrival of Marvel Studios Assembled: The Making of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. That will be followed up on Feb. 22 with Voices Rising: The Music of Wakanda Forever. Washington, Sep 20 (Ians) NASA’s InSight lander has detected impact sounds from four space rocks that crashed on Mars in 2020 and 2021. It marks the first time seismic and acoustic waves from an impact have been detected on Mars.
A new paper published in Nature Geoscience details the impacts, which ranged between 85 and 290 kms from InSight’s location, a region of Mars called Elysium Planitia.
The first of the four confirmed meteoroids made the most dramatic entrance: It entered Mars’ atmosphere on September 5, 2021, exploding into at least three shards that each left a crater behind.
Then, NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter flew over the estimated impact site to confirm the location.
After locating these spots, the orbiter’s team used the High-Resolution Imaging Science Experiment camera, or HiRISE, to get a colour close-up of the craters.
“After three years of InSight waiting to detect an impact, those craters looked beautiful,” said Ingrid Daubar of Brown University,...
