come on guys
boggie475814 March 2022
This was the worst episode I have seen on the Rookie. I hate when a series has a episode where they are on a docu. It is never good. I didn't even watch all of the episode. I love the Rookie but really guys stop doing this. It's never entertaining and frankly it gets on my nerves. Why a drama series does this is beyond me, so stop it.....what will be next where they all sing through the episode, that's next. Stop messing around what makes this series good...

A waste of our time

This episode was such a disappointment. We usually love the action and relationships on the Rookie, but this was like a bad soap opera. Why wrap an entire episode around a new character that we don't care about? This was a waste of time.

Good to bad in a wink of an eye.

"The Rookie" is a really good police procedural drama/comedy. Normally I love the show, but in a wink of an eye this episode tore the quality to shreds. This is what happens when the writers get real lazy and/or run out of ideas. Then they grab a script from the bottom of the pile written by "The Rookie" writer. The. Producer then mistakenly Green-lights it since they can make an episode like this on the cheap. REAL CHEAP!!!

Are You Deaf ??

The last time you did a stupid Documentary it was the lowest rated show of the year - so why on God's earth would you ever ever do another one - is it a way to save money - or are you just brain dead. This is beyond understanding as to why you would take a good show and screw it up on purpose - I assume the writers are on strike and you just didn't have any material - if you really did this with forethought - you need personal help.

Really! Didn't you learn from the last time?
jdonalds-514 March 2022
You've got to be kidding. The last time you did a documentary/interview show most viewers didn't like it. So you did it again! Who's running the show there? Pay attention to your critics.

All we want is straight forward police procedurals. Start the episode, set up the problem, then solve the problem. Thats all. That's what will fly here, not director and writer imaginative plots that fail.

Warning: Spoilers
Only gets a 2 because you find out who the real killer is behind Thorsons false imprisonment. Finally nipped in the bud, so I hope all the in-episode drama about that disappears and we can move on to more interesting plots etc.

I hate those documentary/interview episodes. Ridiculous and boring. The one in season 3 was worse but please don't do anymore. They are not funny when you try to be and they are straight up shoving the values of the show down the toilet.

I could have written everything about this episode in this review and still not have given away anything people would have found interesting.

I really enjoyed this episode!
biskwitsbaby15 March 2022
I loved this episode! It was funny and moving in equal measure.. Tim & Lucy are such a great duo.

They really make me laugh. I thought the story was a great way to conclude Aaron's wrongful murder conviction. Well done all involved!

This episode was great
damnn-7308014 March 2022
I don't get why people say this season is bad, it has been so great so far, this episode was once again one of those styles of documentary and it was made in a way it is really funny. People who didn't like this episode either don't have sense of humour or should just give up on the series as it is not for them.

2nd time they ruined an episode...
cimorellisteve14 March 2022
What's with the camera in camera footage? They did a prior episode like this were all the footage was shown via "body cam" -this one was all shot as a show within a show. Please get back to basics -this was horrendous.

Gave it a 10

Warning: Spoilers
Just for the QANON mocking and making Smitty Q (and as an accident) was genius. Plus it will annoy them all and show them just how stupid they really are.

Enjoyed the episode, while the last documentary episode split fans down the middle I thought this one served a purpose and brought Aaron's back story to a nice conclusion.. I really don't mind when shows try something different but in keeping with the show's aesthetics and this one worked.

Not so bad
jaycharland15 March 2022
I enjoyed the first "documentary" episode more than this one. But it's still fun format for a show not to be taken too seriously. I hope if they do thins again it will be on a funnier subject.

Please don't.

Warning: Spoilers
I am a huge fan of this show, but this episode was horrible. The whole "interview" approach was the most lame and boring way to tell a story, to the point of being cringeworthy. I should be excited on the episode's story in solving a very important crime, but instead I ended up not caring because of the way it was told. Even the characters seemed bland and boring being interviewed. I'm not sure who's idea this approach was, but fire them, and please don't do this again.

First time I literally HATED this show
grlym-4684918 March 2022
I thought it was bad when they filmed the episode through body cameras and reality episode

This is infinitely worse!!!

This TMZ format is dumpster fire. Hands down worst episode.

All the charm that this show has was abandoned in this episode. The reality TV filming was annoying and nausea inducing.

I watch a lot of my favorite shows again. But this episode...I will NEVER watch again. I hope this is not the episode where the show 'Jumped the Shark'

Show jumped the shark a while back. Now I just watch to see if it might be good again.
travinitrav14 March 2022
Yet another docu-drama/true-crime episode. And its not even good.

This is the worst of The Rookie. The show used to mean something and now its just boring garbage. I do NOT want to watch a show about shallow vapid rich people acting like d-bags. There's literally a dozen other choices for that and I avoid them all, because I don't consider that to be television. And I darn sure don't want it on The Rookie, which was previous an honest look at the lives and careers of new cops, and is now just a mess. They used to have moderately interesting plots. Now the stories are dumb and the characters don't behave like they used to and no one is interesting to watch.

We are in a cesspool of horrible television these days, and I do not think its because Hollywood is lazy. I think its because Hollywood is greedy and desperate to attract viewers who've been lost to the internet. This is the result of going lowest common denominator.

Last season I suggested the producers look long and hard at the show and see what it is they're really doing. I suggested they go back to the core and work on stories about cops learning the job, making mistakes, doing better, growing, changing.

This season I suggest they just give up and let it die. There's nothing left of value anymore. The premise was good, the execution was terribly flawed. Let it die, and in 5 years or so make a new show about young cops starting on the job. Maybe set it in Chicago or New York.

Not the best effort
bl-6397414 March 2022
They went away from what works for them. Going off in this tangent didn't work at all for me. Almost couldn't get through the episode. I hope this poor outing doesn't hurt the show from moving forward to another season.

Wow! Just ... Wow!
bosporan14 March 2022
For some reason crime dramas running any length of time seem to do this reporter cam episode. We already had one on the Rookie. Most are poor because this is not why we watch. The best I have seen is the Mentalist where it was integrated into the normal style and we got our usual dose of Jane and Lisbon - this one is the worst I have seen, I rarely give 1* normally 3 is about as low as I go. No redeeming features, simply a cheap episode that would have been better not made.

This season has been good (something of a bounce back) but we already had a terrible episode (the caricature bail bondsman). The season would be better with two fewer episodes however inexpensive this one was to make.

One of the funniest episodes I've seen
kathi-2223615 March 2022
I normally don't really like these documentary style episodes, but this one was really entertaining and was a great way to resolve Aaron's murder mystery situation. It gave us some great moments with the characters, especially Tim and Lucy. The interrogation of the Q suspect was hilarious, and Smitty's revelation had me laughing out loud. Thumbs up from me!

Do watch - It's bad in a good way!
ohdoig6 May 2022
I was hyper to watch my next episode of The Rookie.

I love this show and waiting a week to see each episode feels like forever, however when I started watching this one my heart sank!

The docu-style episode last season was awful and so I stopped watching after a minute. Thankfully a review here on IMDb mentioned something that peaked my interest so I continued watching, and I am glad I did.

This show is great because it's a little silly and this episode is just that. Stick with it as the story is worth watching and pushes the series forward.

Way to ruin a great show
david_w_gibson14 March 2022
It's amazing that someone got paid to think up a way to ruin a great show by filming it like a reality show, which is the furthest thing from anyone watching a really good drama wants to watch. When wil Hollywood get it, that the reality TV niche, is just that, a niche, people either like that, or a really well written drama with great acting, rarely both. And these studios do it all the time, take a show that has one type of audience and do a "musical", or "reality", or "Blair Witch" type FPS episode. It's like they are trying to chase their audience away. I look forward to this show, The Rookie, every week, and expect iit to be done in the same style it normally is. I think it boils down to the writers being lazy when they run out of ideas. Which is really pathetic in a cop show considering how many well documented true crime stories are available to them to use as ideas.

I think it's a good show. I like the episode from the begin to the end and the best scene was when Aaron was not guilty to prove his innocent of crime. Thank you all for the support and please let a nice comment to episode that are good thank you so much.

Weirdly funny
gpnofer12 February 2024
Honestly I liked this episode way more than the similar one from 3rd season. Unlike that one, this adds useful information to the plot, despite the "format" which I don't completely dislike but I do think it could've been "more", like it was the perfect episode to show a different scenario rather than LA suburbs, they had the perfect excuse to show Paris but the scenes was basically restricted to indoors places.

But regardless, it was funny, and it was actually nice seeing all the characters in a "casual" way, just sitting back and relaxing, not worrying about getting shot. Finally, I loved the interactions between Lucy and Tim, they both seem so different but in a weird way it's like they "complete" each other, Lucy is sweet and funny and Tim is always grumpy but you can tell that he's dying to crack a smile.

Yech!
neverenoughgold14 March 2022
Sorry, but when I tune in to a cops and robbers show, I want to see both really doing what they are supposed to do, chase each other until a resolve. This is not what I consider good writing for a show of this potential calibre. Not at all!

I like Nathan Fillian from Castle, and although there were a few episodes not up to par, this series is piling up crappy episodes faster than a greased mouse through a knothole!

I know they can do better, and I hope it comes soon, because this episode was dismal'

Yikes.
drmokedweed12314 March 2022
Yea, let's not base an entire episode on a new character no one likes or wants. The whole tiktok cringe influencer subplot stuff made it all 100x worse.

The absolute worst thing about this episode is it was the last one before taking a month long break :/

Absolutely terrible!
bcowan-6409714 March 2022
This episode was so bad is was painful to watch. I stuck with it to the end, trusting that my favorite show would redeem itself, but no luck. If this mess had aired early in the first season, I would never have tuned in again. Please, never, never, never do anything like this disaster again.
