- When a series of killings occur on the BAU's home turf, Prentiss realizes that Ian Doyle is responsible.
- Doyle finally makes direct contact with Prentiss, telling her that he will eventually kill her, but in the process, she is not to involve her BAU colleagues. Meanwhile, the BAU investigate two DC area house fires that occurred on the same evening. Both seem suspicious - one looking to be a murder/suicide, the other an accidental gas leak explosion - especially as they seem to be under-reported in the media. Upon further investigation, the suicide was not so (that person also murdered). The only seeming connection between the two sets of victims is a European background. When Morgan and Prentiss investigate a common contact telephone number between the two families, they are ambushed, and manage to kill one of their ambushers. It is then that Prentiss not only suspects but truly believes this is the work of Doyle. As the BAU further investigate, which includes why the one news story of the fires was pulled from its online posting, they do find a connection to Doyle. Through it all, Prentiss, still not saying a word to her BAU colleagues, works on both sides to find out where Doyle is and exactly what he is up to in his attempt to kill her in the meticulous fashion for which he is known.—Huggo
- A man returns home to find the television tuned to news of an impending storm. Suddenly, the lights go out. The next thing we know, the mans wife and son are being held at gunpoint by figures wearing scary white masks. The screen fades to black and we hear gunshots. Emily, meanwhile, rides the subway when Clyde and Tsia approach. Ian Doyle is here in D.C., Emily tells her former Interpol cohorts. Hes not working alone. Emily says she cant risk telling the BAU team about her predicament. D.C. isnt his comfort zone its mine, tough-talking Emily says. This ends here.
CUT to BAU headquarters, where Garcia explains that TWO families were killed possible murder-suicide cases. Moreover, the houses were burned to the ground. Turns out the dead husbands were both from Europe. Otherwise, the connections are few. The team heads to one of the burnt homes and find a steal door inside. Its like a panic room, Emily observes. Ask Rossi: What was this guy afraid of? Derek and Hotch, meanwhile, examine the bodies at the morgue. None of the victims were alive when the fire started, meaning outside parties were definitely involved. Emily appears worried.
Also worried: Reid, who lately has been experiencing bad headaches. Apparently, the doctors dont know what is wrong with the boy wonder. He confesses the details to Emily. Later, Reid discovers that both dead men had recently dialed the same phone number. Garcia traces the number to Byron Delaney, a Brit living stateside. CUT to the home of Delaney. He is about to head out when the door BURSTS open and the pair of white-masked men enters. One empties the contents of a syringe into Delaneys the webbing between Delaneys toes. Derek and Emily, meanwhile, pull up outside the residence. They are about to enter when the masked men appear, guns BLAZING! A third masked man, the getaway driver, appears and OPENS FIRE.
Emily manages to SHOOT one of the assailants in the leg. Rather than risk leaving a breathing witness behind, the other masked men SHOOT and KILL their wounded accomplice before leaping into an unmarked van and escaping. Derek examines the dead man on the sidewalk and notices that he was shot through the wrist AFTER being shot in the head by his accomplices. There is evidence of a tattoo. They blew a hole through the tattoo so we couldnt ID him, Derek observes. Emily clearly suspects Doyle, but keeps quiet. Inside, Rossi and Hotch notice the mark between Delaneys toes. The man was poisoned. It becomes clear that a European hit squad is on the loose. What these victims have in common it didnt happen on U.S. soil, Rossi notes.
CUT to a coffee shop, where Garcia approaches an online journalist named Jed Hastings. Apparently, Jed was the only person to write about the victims and their burned homes, before it was yanked from an online newspaper. Why did you pull that story? Garcia asks. You were suspicious and you have the right to be. A nervous Jed suggests that Garcia follow the money. So she does and discovers that the Gazette is owned by conglomerate that employs the services of, according to Hotch, a private counterintelligence group out of Geneva. All of the victims worked for the clandestine group. Reid, meanwhile, manages to recreate the tattoo and the results cause Emily to go white. Its definitely Doyle. Emily retreats the bathroom and calls Tsia. But before Emily can speak, a suspicious Garcia enters. Im going to be alright, Emily assures baby girl. Garcia clearly doesnt buy it. Of course, we dont buy it either.
Derek, Rossi, Emily and Hotch head to Quantico to speak with some suit-wearing spy types. Derek demands to know why the suits pulled the Gazette story. They admit that the Geneva-based security group did a bit of contract work for the government. Rossi shows a picture of the reconstructed tattoo. One of the suits immediately identifies the likely leader of the hit squad: Ian Doyle. Emily STILL remains silent. CUT to Doyle lighting candles in a church. Happy birthday, my love, he whispers. Back at the office, Hotch asks Emily had heard of Doyle while she was at Interpol. Emily stammers before saying she never had any direct contact (a lie). Emily then calls Tsia and Clyde, asking for help in connecting Doyle with the murders. The former Interpol agents quickly deduce that Emily is keeping her connection with Doyle secret from the BAU team and agree to help without blowing her cover, of course.
CUT to Delaneys home, where Emily and Derek search for clues. Derek sense that something is disturbing Emily and promises his partner that she can trust him. Emily nods, but doesnt confess to anything. Emily then finds an envelope containing pictures of the dead men holding automatic weapons. She suggests that Delaney mightve been the mens handler. Back at BAU headquarters, Garcia examines the photos and deduces that the security force was responsible for locking up Doyle for seven years in a North Korean prison after he was arrested at his villa in Tuscany. Doyle is taking his revenge. Emily excuses herself and dials Clyde and Tsia. Turns out Clyde knew Doyle had been kept in North Korea, but decided Emily didnt need to know that info. Emily then gets on a private line with Tsia and asks her former coworker to meet her without Clyde. Apparently, the Clydster can no longer be trusted. Reid, meanwhile, reveals that he might be able to get surveillance video of Doyles arrest in Tuscany. Emily sweats.
CUT to Tsia, who goes to the meeting place to wait for Emily. Alas, Doyle is waiting and SHOOTS the former Interpol agent in the head. Its not long before Derek and Emily are at the scene. Emily stares at Tsias dead body. I need some air, she tells Derek before running outside and vomiting. Emily and Derek then stop at the formers apartment so she can get a change of clothes or so Emily says. What she really wants is a gold necklace that has a carving of joined hands. A memento from her undercover days as Doyles special lady? Back at the office, Emily looks over the members of her team and appears to realize that she has put them all in grave danger. Its too much. She slowly backs away and exits the conference room. Will she go it alone? To be continued
