Warning: Spoilers
I always look forward to both the BAFTA television and film awards, but the film awards are definitely my favourite ceremony, especially if I have seen the films nominated, so I can hope certain ones win. Hosted by Jonathan Ross, with voice overs by Gina Mellotte, 2011 saw some great films nominated and winning the famous golden mask award, in all the categories: Best Film, Best British Film, Best Leading Actor, Best Leading Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Screenplay, Best Music, Best Animated Film, the Fellowship award, Outstanding British Contribution To Cinema, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Editing, Best Film not in the English Language, Best Makeup & Hair, Best Production Design, Best Rising Star, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, Best Short Film and Best Short Animation. Films nominated and winning in this year included: Alice in Wonderland, Another Year, Biutiful, Black Swan, Despicable Me, Exit Through the Gift Shop, The Fighter, Four Lions, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, How to Train Your Dragon, Inception, The Kids Are All Right, The King's Speech, Made in Dagenham, Monsters, 127 Hours, The Social Network, The Town, Toy Story 3 and True Grit. It also included a tribute to all the filmmakers and stars who had passed away in the last year, including John Barry, Claude Chabrol, Tony Curtis, Dino De Laurentiis, Blake Edwards, Corey Haim, Dennis Hopper, Patricia Neal, Ronald Neame, Leslie Nielsen, Arthur Penn, Ingrid Pitt, Pete Postlethwaite, Sir Norman Wisdom, Peter Yates and Susannah York. Stars seen at the ceremony, and nominated or winning, included Amy Adams, Jessica Alba, Darren Aronofsky, Gemma Arterton, Christian Bale, Danny Boyle, Jeff Bridges, Gerard Butler, Helena Bonham Carter, Alfonso Cuarón, Jesse Eisenberg, David Fincher, Colin Firth, Andrew Garfield, Rupert Grint, Tom Hardy, Barbara Hershey, David Heyman, Tom Hooper, Samuel L. Jackson, Sir Christopher Lee, Sir Paul McCartney, Mike Newell, Christopher Nolan, Natalie Portman, J.K. Rowling, Mark Raffalo, Geoffrey Rush, Emma Stone, Emma Watson, Harvey Weinstein and David Yates. Very good!
