While you probably couldn’t tell just by looking at the contemporary comic-book landscape, there was a point in time when the industry wasn’t dominated by super-heroes. From horror to erotica, comics used to be just as varied as other artforms before masks and spandex became the norm – something that was almost certainly influenced by the conservative comics code authority. Fortunately, there are some talented artists that manage to create genre-defying works of art within the confines of what readers are actually buying.
One such creator is the inimitable Sam Keith, a Michigan-born writer and artist who was a part of Image Comics’ creator-owned-character boom of the 90s. However, Keith’s contribution to Todd McFarlane’s celebration of 90s excess was very different from his fellow artists’, with his The Maxx subverting super-hero tropes and iconography in order to delve into a deeply disturbing and surprisingly human story about...

‘Top End Wedding’, ‘Hearts and Bones’ and ‘The King’ are among the 34 longlisted films.
Some 34 feature films will compete for nominations for this year’s Aacta Awards, and the longlist covers a diverse range of titles, from box office earners like Top End Wedding and Storm Boy, through to critically lauded films like The Nightingale and micro budget indies such as Suburban Wildlife.
However, perhaps the most notable inclusion in the longlist is David Michôd’s Netflix Original The King, which premiered at Venice Film Festival last week to an eight-minute standing ovation.
Typically, to be eligible for Aacta Awards, a film – even when made for a streaming platform – must have paid cinema screenings in Australia or local festival play.
Aacta has made an exception for The King, which is not due to play in Australian cinemas or in festivals before its release on Netflix later this year, because of...

I’ve got an enjoyable animated short film from you to watch today from DreamWorks Animation called Bilby.
The story is set in the harsh environment of Australia’s Outback, which is overrun by deadly creatures looking to kill and eat. It follows the lonesome Bilby, “who finds himself an unwitting protector, and unexpected friend, to a helpless (and quite adorable) baby bird.”
Bilby was directed by Liron Topaz, Pierre Perifel and Jp Sans and, as you’ll see, it’s pretty funny to watch these little creatures on a never ending adventure of trying to survive in a place where the odds are stacked against them.

Lille, France — An aboriginal boy disappears without an initial trace from his pick-up van on a cattle ranch in North-West Australia. The local police sergeant, Emma James (Judy Davis), calls in a detective, the brusque Jay Swan (Aaron Pedersen), to investigate.
As Swan drives to meet the local ranch owner, the camera shoots his car from way up high, the desert taking on the arresting colors – pink, white, a few seemingly-doodled black lines – of an abstract painting.
The multiple establishing shots of the local town, with a large aboriginal community, reveal a singular world unknown to most viewers. They also hint at a larger point: the reason for the disappearance seems related to a a bigger social picture. Swan, already the lead character of two highly admired feature films from Ivan Sen, both times played by Pedersen, begins to peel away at the secrets, crimes and miscarriage of justice in...

While some TV networks are papering over the realities of their businesses by trumpeting a range of digital deals, Pop, the CBS-Lionsgate joint venture, is sticking to its linear knitting.
The network known as Pop for the past three years, after rebranding from TV Guide Network, announced a raft of new orders, renewals and pilot orders, including new shows Clique and Flack and renewals of Schitt’s Creek, Swedish Dicks and Hollywood Darlings. The news is timed with the upfronts, but instead of a formal presentation, the network has meetings with ad buyers and press in smaller, more individualized settings.
The programming news is part of a ramped-up strategy with a new target of 400 original hours a year.

In 2013’s “Cargo,” a seven-minute viral video that cleverly subverted several walking-dead clichés, directors Ben Howling and Yolanda Ramke devised a novel way for a zombie-bitten father to lead his uninfected infant child to safety. Now, reteaming with star Martin Freeman for the Netflix-bound feature version, the duo wind up indulging the overplayed tropes at which they poked fun five years earlier — most notably, the existential questions raised when parents or spouses are infected, knowing they will soon become a threat to those they love most.
Less a straightforward walking-dead nightmare than a low-key drama about humanity’s capacity for compassion and cruelty in the face of disaster, this familiar saga eschews jolting scares for survival-esque (and dark-heart-of-man) thrills, relying largely on Freeman’s compelling lead turn to set it apart from the genre.

Every year, a Super Bowl commercial gets fans excited about a thing that isn’t really what it purports to be (looking at you, “Ferris Bueller 2”). This year’s example was a supposed “Crocodile Dundee” spinoff starring Danny McBride as the title Australian’s son.
After a fortnight of viral marketing, the culmination of the McBride/Chris Hemsworth faux film was an ad during Super Bowl Lii for Australia Tourism. The two actors were a part of a story that followed “Brian Dundee” through alll the best the Outback had to offer.
The ad was directed by Steve Rogers, who’s been behind the camera for notable ads for Old Spice, Adobe, and Nike, among others.
Watch the full commercial below:

A new full trailer has been released for the wonderfully entertaining fake Crocodile Dundee sequel, Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home. The trailer introduces us to the fully loaded impressive cast which includes Danny McBride, Chris Hemsworth, Hugh Jackman, Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe, Isla Fisher, Ruby Rose, Liam Hemsworth, Jessica Mauboy and Luke Bracey.
The marketing behind this elaborate Crocodile Dundee Super Bowl ad for Australian Tourism is bloody brilliant! It sucks that this isn't a real movie, but it's still extremely entertaining! I know I've enjoyed everything that I've seen from it so far!
Crocodile Dundee is back. Well, actually, he’s missing in the Outback. And the only person who might be able to find him is the loudmouthed American son no one knew he had. Introducing Danny McBride as Brian Dundee. This son of a legend is forced to channel his Aussie roots as he...

The teasing of this fake Crocodile Dundee sequel continues! This time, with Hugh Jackman! The actor recently shared a video showing of his character and it came with the note, "You didn’t really think they’d bring back Dundee ... without me, did you?! #DundeeMovie".
Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home, has been confirmed to be a big Super Bowl commercial created for Australian tourism. The project also includes Danny McBride, Chris Hemsworth, and Paul Hogan.

Well, that didn’t take long. Earlier this week, we learned about a supposedly new Crocodile Dundee film–simply titled ‘Dundee’–that apparently stars Danny McBride, which I speculated was a fake. Well, it turns out that I was right, because The Brisbane Times is now reporting that ‘Dundee’ is actually a part of an elaborate advertising campaign by Tourism Australia for this year’s Super Bowl:
“Industry sources have indicated the teaser – featuring Us actor Danny McBride – is part of an advertising campaign for Tourism Australia, set to air during next month’s NFL Super Bowl.”
Mind you, Tourism Australia has not confirmed anything as of yet, but this seems like a highly likely scenario based on all of the evidence that we’ve see thus far. However, there’s also a new trailer for the “film” that was released featuring both McBride and Chris Hemsworth. Check it out...

I didn't plan on visiting Australia in 2018, and I certainly won't after this stunt! That Danny McBride ad is Not another Crocodile Dundee film shot in secret called, its just an upcoming Super Bowl ad called Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home that was created for Australian tourism in Canada.
This seems incredibly stupid given the insane amount of money poured into making this look like a legitimate film. They even got Chris Hemsworth and the original film star Paul Hogan on board! That said I will be interested to see how these commercials unfold, as it looks as though a few different commercials made to look like scenes from the film will air during the Super Bowl. Here's the synopsis that was released.

Last week a teaser trailer was dropped for a Crocodile Dundee sequel with Danny McBride called Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home. I still can't tell if this is some kind of elaborate joke, but today we've learned that Chris Hemsworth has joined the film project and there's a promo video showing us a scene involving his character meeting Mcbride, who plays the son of Paul Hogan's original character.
Hemsworth plays a character named Wally Jr. and the official site for the film describes him as the heir to his father’s outback tour company.
"This expert outdoorsman prides himself on knowing all the is to know about the land down under. But even he will have his hands full keeping his new American friend out of trouble."
This whole thing just seems so weird! I've seen some people speculate that this is all leading up to...

Before Charlie Bewley was cast as "Demetri" in The Twilight Saga: New Moon, he was just finishing up Vancouver Film School, and he had few credits to his name aside from a couple of film school shorts ("Stuffed" and "Robotron"). Now, he's scoring roles that take him Sundance (Like Crazy). The latest from Bewley is a cameo in Slightly Single In L.A., and you can see a snippet of him in the trailer (attached).Given the context of his appearance and the dialogue given in the video, Bewley's character, Hayden, is obviously not the hero of the story in this film. He's got a couple of other new projects under way as well, per IMDb, called The Outback (an animated film) and The First Ride Of Wyatt Earp; and he's completed working on Soldiers Of Fortune and Ecstasy (the trailer …...
