For fans of Between Two Ferns, the hilarious bite-sized webisodes in which a passive-aggressive version of Zach Galifianakis awkwardly interviews quickly chagrined celebrities, the promise of a full-length television episode threatened to be almost too much of a good thing. Would Comedy Central, which aired the special last night before The Comedy Awards, ruin the low-rent vibe of the show by throwing millions of Viacom dollars at the funnyman? And could the show hold up over the course of a half hour, rather than the quick four-minute hits that have so delighted you during your lunch break.

The Funny or Die original web series for which Will Ferrel and Adam McKay’s online comedy destination is most famous is getting a 30-minute special on Comedy Central this Sunday, May 6 at 8:30Pm Eastern. Zach Galifianakis’ Between Two Ferns is set to air on cable television’s comedy channel immediately following that channel's broadcast of The Comedy Awards. The very special installment of the faux celebrity interview program is dubbed A Fairy Tale of New York and will feature the kinds of individuals with recognizable names you’re used to seeing sit across from Galifiankis in an an awkward set, bookended with mildly unattractive greenery. Guests include, but may not be limited to Tina Fey, Jon Stewart, and Sir Richard Branson. In anticipation of the big event, Funny or Die recently released two deleted scenes that got picked up off the floor of the edit room of television and uploaded to the internet.

Don't you hate how few awards shows we can enjoy year round? So did Comedy Central. But unlike you, they have the power to snap their fingers and bring one into existence out of thin air.
And snap their fingers they did -- for the second year in a row, they held The Comedy Awards in New York City, honoring and celebrating the best in film, TV, stand-up and other comedy from the last year. They also gave Don Rickles and Robin Williams special lifetime achievement awards, recognizing their lives in comedy.
Although the winners have already been announced, you can watch the awards this Saturday evening on Comedy Central. But the real fun was seeing so many stars of the world of comedy all in one place.
HuffPost Comedy was there, too, and we were lucky enough to nab interviews with several of them. We chatted with Robin Williams,...

Talk about a tough crowd. When comedians took the stage at the second annual Comedy Awards, a swanky trophy-fest that taped on April 28 in New York City and will air this Sunday at 9 p.m. on Comedy Central, they had to stare down comedic powerhouses like Chris Rock, Jon Stewart, Joel McHale, and Kristen Wiig — and try to crack them up.
“So, they televise this, and they don’t do the Nobel Peace Prize?” joked Rock at the show’s opening, earning big laughs from the crowd. Other chuckle-inducing presenters included the cast of Happy Endings (one of whom ate...

When putting on an awards show that's all for comedy, you can pretty much guarantee there won't be any of those typical, boring, old acceptance speeches.
Instead, you get stuff like this.
While accepting their award for Best Comedy Screenplay at The Comedy Awards last weekend, "Bridesmaids" writers and best friends Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo had a little trouble deciding who would hold the single statuette. What starts as a friendly tug of war quickly escalates into a girl-on-girl wrestling match on the floor.

At the Second Annual Comedy Awards presented by Comedy Central on Saturday night, Robin Williams was honored with the Stand-Up Icon Award. But in a pre-show interview with The Huffington Post, he singled out two other comics, Patton Oswalt and Louis C.K., as two of the best and funniest comics working today.
"I hope it's Louie-palooza tonight," the Oscar-winning actor said. "I hope Patton wins, because he deserves it too. It's hard, because the guys are so good, you just want to put them in a room and [have them] fight over it."
Oswalt and C.K. were both nominated for "Comedy Special of the Year," with C.K. ultimately winning for his experimentally-marketed "Live at the Beacon Theatre." Oswalt, who like Williams spent much time in the San Francisco comedy scene, was nominated for his special "Finest Hour."

The "Dawson's Creek" vet will first make his usual appearance on "Don't Trust The B---- In Apartment 23" (Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. Et on ABC). The following day, Van Der Beek will appear as a guest star on "Law And Order: Special Victims Unit" (Wednesday at 10 p.m. Et on NBC).
In finale news, "In Plain Sight" airs its final episode ever on Friday on USA, which sees Mary caught between her "model" witness and an unexpected family reunion. And "Gcb" also ends its first season on Sunday on ABC.
The rest of weekend also offers a few reasons to stay home on the couch. On Saturday, it's SyFy's one night only movie event with "Treasure Island." The new spin on the classic tale features an all-star cast led by Eddie Izzard, Elijah Wood and Donald Sutherland.

The stars of hit movie Bridesmaids were the toast of The Comedy Awards in New York City over the weekend (28-29Apr12) as the film landed four of the night's top trophies.
Melissa McCarthy, who won an Oscar nomination for her part in the movie, scooped Best Performance by an Actress during the Comedy Central prizegiving at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan on Saturday night.
The actress' co-star Kristen Wiig shared the Best Comedy Screenplay prize with her co-writer Annie Mumolo, and the pair drew laughs from the audience by pretending to wrestle for the trophy on stage.
Paul Feig won Best Comedy Director and the movie was also named Best Comedy Film.
The prizegiving also honoured Oscar-winning French actor Jean Dujardin, who won the Best Performance by an Actor - Film for his role in The Artist, while Modern Family star Ty Burrell and Parks and Recreation's Amy Poehler scored acting nods in the TV categories.
Funnyman Robin Williams was named Stand-Up Icon at the show and on accepting the prize, he called himself "one of the luckiest f**kers in showbusiness, with the possible exception of Ryan Seacrest," and comedy legend Don Rickles was feted for his career achievements with the Johnny Carson Award.
The beloved comic couldn't resist joking about the accolade, telling the crowd, "I see many people in the audience tonight, and I realise: I'm the biggest name here!"
The night also featured an appearance by Community co-stars Joel McHale and Chevy Chase, who put a public feud over the show behind them by presenting an award together. Chase, who blasted show creator Dan Harmon in an explosive leaked voicemail message earlier this month, appeared to put the incident behind him by joking with McHale on stage.
McHale told the crowd, "When I see Chevy and (me) together, I can only think of one thing - teamwork... What an absolute joy it is to work alongside a comic legend... and I know all those pratfalls are because of an inoperable tumour" as Chase leaned his head on his co-star's shoulder and shot back, calling McHale "a brilliant actor, who has a horrible eating disorder".
The ceremony will be broadcast in the U.S. on the Comedy Central channel on 6 May.

All of the presenters, including Chris Rock, Will Arnett, Tracy Morgan, Maya Rudolph, Adam Scott and Jon Stewart, wrote their own material for the show with the help of popular TV comedy writers. Speaking of original web series making the transition to cable television networks, Zach Galifianakis’s Speed Stick-supported, Funny or Die distributed, and viewer embraced awkward, faux celebrity, online interview program is making its way to Comedy Central. Continuing its gradual metamorphosis into the Funny Or Die Channel, Comedy Central will air an all-new half-hour Between Two Ferns special on May 6, resurrecting Zach Galifianakis' interview show right before The Comedy Awards as a sort of intentionally awkward version of Barbara Walters' pre-awards show conversations. Comedy Central announced Monday that Don Rickles will receive The Johnny Carson Award For Comedic Excellence at the upcoming 2012 Comedy Awards. Rickles is the second recipient of the honor, after David Letterman received the award at the 2011 ceremony.
At the ceremony, which will be taped in New York City on April 28 and will air on Comedy Central on May 6, "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart is scheduled to present the award to Rickles.
Rickles, 85, has been performing stand-up comedy since the early 1950s. He quickly developed a reputation as an "insult comedian," throwing out razor-sharp barbs at audience members as a trademark of his act. Comedy Central announced the nominees for the second annual Comedy Awards earlier today and it was no laughing matter.
"Bridesmaids" and "Crazy, Stupid, Love." are about to face off in a two-way race for the most lauded flick, as each landed five nominations in the film categories.
"Midnight in Paris" followed with four nods, while "The Artist" and "Horrible Bosses" were close behind with three nominations each.
Considering its massive box office and award season success, the nominations for "Bridesmaids" — which include Comedy Film, Comedy Director - Film (Paul Feig), Comedy Screenplay and two nods in the Performance By an Actress - Film category (Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy) — are no surprise. At least, not as big a surprise as someone pooping in a sink.
Despite critical acclaim, however, "Crazy, Stupid, Love." failed to gain much traction, making its haul of five nominations, including one in every non-animation category, even more impressive.

TV host Jon Stewart has lamented that he's never been a particularly skilled actor. Speaking to MTV News at The Comedy Awards, the Daily Show presenter explained that most of the characters he's played in films like Big Daddy and The Faculty were imbued with quirks from his own personality. "I was never a very good actor," Stewart asserted. "I can do myself like 10% madder or 10% happier." The TV presenter went on to say that he has particular respect for the dedication it takes for (more)...

Hey Rob Corddry, what do you think about having comedians honor comedians?
“They should do that! I think that’s a great idea,” the former Daily Show correspondent told EW at the Comedy Awards. “Just get a bunch of comedians together in black tie.” Okay, somebody’s either being really snarky or hasn’t been paying attention, since Comedy Central’s first annual awards were just that — with Corddry himself picking up the Golden Microphone for Best Sketch Comedy/Alternative Comedy Series (Childrens’ Hospital).

"Lately I've had some free time," Jon Cryer admitted to laughter on 'The Comedy Awards' (Sun., 9Pm Et on Comedy Central). "Maybe as a reaction to some of the recent events in my life, I've been looking for a way to express myself."
The 'Two and a Half Men' actor then revealed that he'd been working on a new album and gave the crowd a sneak peek. What followed was a hardcore rap song based on the idea that "Jon Cryer will f*** you up!"
The lyrics suggested Cryer may have dipped into Charlie Sheen's tiger blood to channel his own inner crazy, but the performance was hilarious.

At the inaugural edition of 'The Comedy Awards' (Sun., 9Pm Et on Comedy Central), Jon Stewart and 'The Daily Show' picked right up where they left off at the Emmy Awards. Unfortunately, that meant he beat his compatriot in late night on Comedy Central, and Stephen Colbert has had about enough of coming in second.
As Stewart began his acceptance speech, Colbert moved closer and closer, staring him down, until finally--
"Do you wanna say something, Stephen?"
Taking the award, Colbert addressed the crowd. "Every year I sit behind Jon at the Emmys and every year he wins the award ... I always hug and I kiss you and I mean it because you're incredible and I love you, buddy. But tonight, you can go f*** yourself. Get off the stage!"
