The Neanderthal stands at a picket fence, talking with his neighbor. The Neanderthal says he really likes the guys shed. The man points out it is his shed and that he has an artificial arm, which he takes off and throws behind him. The Big Guy continues his desire for the shed. He explodes when a helicopter flies over and makes it hard to hear. There is a string of obscene verbiage that is launched. Then the Neanderthal tells the neighbor what he has heard. The ending us utterly hilarious considering it is also disgusting and beyond the pale. Lynch simply assaults our senses and says, "What are you going to do about it?"

Dumbland - The Neighbor (2002)

*** (out of 4)

If you go through David Lynch's filmography you'll notice weird features and weird shorts. This Dumbland series is weird animation as the director takes a large, deformed man and puts him into various situations.

This first episode has the large man confronting his neighbor over a fence. It's clear from the start that this isn't a friendly little chat, which leads to discussion of a rumor. I won't spoil what rumor happens since it's the ending to the picture but for the most part I thought this was a good or at least entertaining short. The animation itself is quite crude but in a good way. There's certainly some salty dialogue and it's quite funny at times but the highlight is just the weird atmosphere that Lynch brings.
