The World's Teeth Are Bleeding
Hitchcoc27 January 2016
A family portrait of the Neanderthal character, sitting in his living room, watching television. On the screen are wrestlers beating each other bloody, police shooting at criminals, armies destroying cities and people. Meanwhile, the little boy jumps up and down on a mini-trampoline repeating the phrase "My teeth are bleeding" over and over again. The wife sits in a chair quivering and screaming. The father, or whatever he is, becomes obsessed with a fly that picks up the rhythm of the scene. Lynch pounds us with disturbing images and let's us be overwhelmed by over-stimulation. As with all of these, the repetition just pounds away in our heads, as we wait for something significant to happen. Since the characters are static or confined to one motion, it seldom does.

Dumbland - My Teeth Are Bleeding (2002)

*** (out of 4)

If you go through David Lynch's filmography you'll notice weird features and weird shorts. This Dumbland series is weird animation as the director takes a large, deformed man and puts him into various situations.

In this sixth episode the large man is sitting in his chair listening to the chaos going on around him. This includes the traffic outside, his wife screaming and their young son making all sorts of annoying noise on the trampoline. This here is without question one of the most annoying films I've ever seen. That's not really an insult since what we're getting annoyed by is meant to show how the large man is also getting annoyed. Lynch really does make you feel the pain of this large man because the noise is just so annoying that you want to do something really crazy.
