Ever since the grand announcement of three titans of the entertainment industry, Salman Khan, Sajid Nadiadwala, and A.R. Murugadoss, joining forces for a mega project, it left everyone excited to know the title.
The curtain was unveiled on Eid by revealing ‘Sikandar’ as the title. Now, yet another prominent name has joined the mega project, and it’s none other than the blockbuster maestro Pritam Chakraborty as a music director and this is indeed bound to create history.
Being one of the finest music composers in the industry, Pritam has provided music for some of the biggest blockbusters like Phantom, Dishoom, Chhichhore, Tadap, 83, etc., and the list goes on. Remarkably, the ‘Khairiyat’ song from Chhichhore has ruled all across with a massive 1 Billion+ views and still counting followed by ‘Afghan Jalebi’ from Phantom is a chartbuster, and with ‘Lehra Do’ song from 83, Pritam evoked our national pride. Following two sold-out limited seasons at London’s Barbican, the Royal Shakespeare Company’s acclaimed stage version of Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli classic My Neighbour Totoro will transfer to the West End early in 2025.
The show broke box office records during both its inaugural 15-week term in 2022 and repeated that success on its second iteration, which played for 17 weeks from last November until last month.
Griselda Yorke, My Neighbour Totoro’s executive producer for the RSC, revealed that more than 290,000 saw the production at the Barbican.

The Phantom of the Opera is sometimes considered one of the Universal Monsters. I get it. From the 1925 version that gave us one of the most infamous unmasking sequences ever courtesy of the great Lon Chaney Sr., through the Hammer iteration with Herbert Lom, all the way up to the 2004 film that gave a lot of us our intro to Gerard Butler. Phantom of the Mall: Eric’s Revenge is cheesy and may just be more well known due to our friend Joe Bob featuring it on the Last Drive In recently. Here in the JoBlo Horror kitchen today...

Cyberpunk 2077‘s Phantom Liberty expansion is filled with new weapons, new stories, new characters, new areas, and…well, a bunch of other new things across the board. However, Phantom Liberty‘s most significant addition to the base Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 experience may just be Relic Perks.
Relic Perks add an entirely new branch to Cyberpunk 2077‘s character-building tree. Aside from the raised level cap you’ll enjoy in the Phantom Liberty expansion, they also offer the most substantial way to raise your character’s general power level. Yet, for as important as Relics can be, I’ve found that the Phantom Liberty expansion kind of brushes them off or perhaps just does a poor job of explaining what they are and what they can do for you.
That being the case, here’s a better look at what Relic Perks do, how to acquire them, and which ones you really want.

Reliably one of the most euphoric and rewarding events on the circuit, the New York Asian Film Festival emerged at a time when hardcore cinephiles were forced to import prohibitively expensive foreign-region DVDs if they wanted to watch the latest hits from the other side of the world, and the first editions of the fest — then hosted at the Anthology Film Archives — got a major boost by screening hard-to-find cult objects and/or future classics at a time when Chinese, Japanese, and South Korean cinema were all on the rise to one degree or another.
No disrespect to the prestigious New York Film Festival, but Nyaff beat them to the punch when it comes to major auteurs like Park Chan-wook, whose “Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance” screened at the 2002 event alongside millennial breakouts like Corey Yuen’s “So Close,” unheralded pop masterpieces like Fumihiko Sori’s “Ping Pong,” and what the fuck did I just witness?...

Ever since he broke out as loveable lunkhead Jason Mendoza in existential sitcom The Good Place, Manny Jacinto_.
The series, set over 100 years before the events of the Skywalker Saga, takes place at the tail-end of the High Republic era, recently established in a series of novels and comic books. While it’s a part of the timeline that sees the Jedi thriving, with lightsabers everywhere, Jacinto won’t one of them. Instead, he tells Empire at Star Wars Celebration, he’s “just a regular guy, trying to have a good time, who gets swept up into the High Republic world and the Jedi, whether he likes it or not.” Are we about to get the Star Wars equivalent of Jason Mendoza, the quintessential ‘regular guy, trying to have a good time’?

Walter, the other half of her detective duo, also enjoys musicals. During their road trip to find the cult, Walter gives Misty a set of cassette tapes that include "Singin' in the Rain," "The Wizard of Oz," "Les Miserables," "Rent," and more. Misty dismisses "Starlight Express" before she turns on "Rainbow Tour" from "Evita": "Oh, let's tell the story of Cinderella, except every character's a train? Ugh." In flashbacks, we see that she and Crystal...

1995 – it was the best of times; it was the worst of times. While the peak era of action movies was beginning to wane, multiplexes were still packed with decent action films, and icons like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone were still packing them in. Meanwhile, second-tier action heroes like Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme still tried to punch their way onto the A-list. It would never quite happen for those two, with both starring in direct-to-video movies by the decade’s end. But 1995 was arguably the last year in the nineties when Stallone and Schwarzenegger were at the top of their game. Schwarzenegger’s career would only really falter at the end of the decade, with him never really able to recapture his former box office glory following his run as the Governor of California. Stallone would be luckier, with him able to reinvent himself in the mid-2000s...

After 35 years, the curtains have closed on Broadway’s longest-running musical. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera ran its final show on Sunday evening at the Majestic Theatre in New York City, marking its 13,981 performance. It was originally scheduled to close in February but received an extension through April 16.
“The one question I keep getting asked again and again — will the Phantom return? Having been a producer for over 55 years, I’ve seen all the great musicals return, and ‘Phantom’ is one of the greatest,” producer Cameron Mackintosh told the audience,...

After 35 years, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera took its final curtain call on Sunday night at the Majestic Theatre in New York. This was show No. 13,981 of the longest-running show in Broadway history and was dedicated by Lloyd Webber to his son Nicholas who died last month after a battle with gastric cancer.
Amid a standing ovation, Webber said, “I hope you won’t mind if I dedicate this performance to my son, Nick.” Turning to original Phantom star, Sarah Brightman, the composer recalled, “When Nick was a little boy, he heard some of this music.”
Said Brightman, “Yes, he did. When Andrew was writing it, he was right there. So his soul is with us. Nick, we love you very much.”
Also on Sunday night, Brightman performed the musical’s most famous song, “The Music of the Night,” along with current cast, previous actors and crew members,...

Broadway showed signs of a spring blossoming last week, with box office receipts and ticket prices taking their traditional climb during the tourist-bumped week leading up to Easter. In all, the 33 productions grossed $38,594,054, a 12% increase over the previous week.
Attendance for the week ending April 9 was 280,760, up 4%. The more modest jump in attendance left ticket prices to do some heavy lifting: Average paid admission was $137.46, up 8% from the previous week.
Some of Broadway’s tourist favorites were among the clear winners for the week, with The Lion King selling out for a big $2,980,093 gross, with an average ticket of $220.08 second only to that of the mighty Phantom of the Opera, once again topping the chart with a massive $3,648,872 and an average ticket price to match: $279.37. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom closes April 16.

Italy’s Far East Film Festival unveiled a power-packed lineup Wednesday for its 25th anniversary edition. The largest cinema event in Europe specializing in popular moviemaking from Asia, Feff will open April 21 with an inspired double bill, He Shuming’s hit Korea-Singapore co-production Ajoomma followed by first-time Taiwanese director Kai Ko’s black comedy Bad Education. And on April 29, the curtain will come down on the festival with the Italy premiere of legendary Chinese director Zhang Yimou’s latest blockbuster, Full River Red. Between those dates, the festival will screen 78 Asian films from 14 countries, including nine world premieres.
The organizers of Feff, founded in 1999 in the picturesque northern Italian city of Udine by festival pioneers Sabrina Baracetti and Thomas Bertacche, say the 2023 selection “aims to showcase the immense complexity of Asia more than ever before.” The lineup indeed presents a compelling snapshot of a wildly diverse content’s commercial cinema in flux.

After “Believer,” Lee Hae-young returns with a patriotic historical film about Korea's liberation movement in the 1930s. A spin-off of some sort to “The Age of Shadows”, the director mixes his inspirations between film noir, action flick, and “The Handmaiden” through its combative lesbian heroines.
Korea, 1933. The country has been under Japanese rule for more than twenty years. However, organized groups of Koreans are resisting colonization and risking their lives for the independence of their homeland. Japanese animation “Suzume” retained the top spot at the South Korean box office for a second weekend, far outstripping holdover titles and newcomers including “Shazam! Fury of the Gods.”
On its second weekend of release, “Suzume” earned $5.65 million, just a small fraction below its opening weekend score of $5.71 million. Underlining its dominance, the film increased its market share from 60% previously to 62%.
After 12 days of release, the film has accumulated $15.8 million, according to data from Kobis, the tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council (Kofic).
It places ahead of “The First Slam Dunk,” which topped the Korean chart more than a month ago, in early February. “Slam Dunk” earned $887,000 over the weekend for a running total of $32.8 million since its Jan. 4 debut. That is a record for a Japanese animation in Korea.
Third place over the latest weekend went to new release title, Korean-produced drama film “Soulmate.” It earned $565,000 over...

As someone who has been a "Star Wars" fan since I saw the first film as a little girl, I've been part of many debates about the original series. Years before the first prequel, "The Phantom Menace," came out in 1999, I was arguing for and against characters with my friends, defending the Ewoks (I was just the right age), and trying to figure out why so many characters couldn't keep their arms attached to their bodies.
The Ewoks were a big argument, though, which has often led to a debate on who exactly the films were made for. Were the "Star Wars" films for children? I'd always thought so — at least for the first trilogy. Often the argument was that the idea of a murderous father was too awful for kids. My defense was always that "The Hobbit," assorted fairy tales with parents who leave their children in the woods...

2022 was finally the year that the Korean box office, after the pandemic, was defibrillated back to life. Producers and distributors were finally confident that the time was right for big budget, blockbuster projects, that had long been queueing up for a release, to start making their way to the theatres. After having to resort to Ott streaming and generally smaller scale films, the audience too was hungry to see high-value productions, entertainment and their favorite stars on the big screen and thronged to the theatres, lapping up these releases. So much so that 2022 saw four new films make their way into the 100 highest grossing Korean films of all tie at the domestic box-office, with Ma Dong-seok’s “The Roundup” even rolling comfortably into the top 10.
2023 too began strongly, with the long-in-production “The Point Men” starring Hwang Jung-min and Hyun Bin and the Sol Kyung-gu led ensemble spy thriller “Phantom” opening the year strong.

The re-released “Titanic” made a strong showing at the Korean box office over the latest weekend. But it was kept in second place by the remarkable performance of “The First Slam Dunk.”
The Japanese animation took top spot for the second successive weekend – its sixth weekend on release, after being held behind another James Cameron movie “Avatar: The Way of Water” for the first four weeks of its career – with a Friday to Sunday score of 2.67 million.
Just as unusual, the film’s weekend gross and its market share continued to grow. A week earlier, it shot 2.3 million. Since release on Jan. 4, the basketball-themed picture has accumulated a gross of 23.2 million.
“Titanic” earned 1.83 million over the weekend proper (i.e. between Friday and Sunday) and 695,000 on Wednesday and Thursday, for a rerelease total of 2.52 million.
“Avatar 2” continued in third place with a weekend score of 837,000. Its cumulative now stands at 107 million since release.

Total attendance was down only 5 through, with the smaller average ticket price (120.29 compared to the previous week’s 124.43) biting into receipts. Nineteen of the 22 shows on the week’s roster reported box office drops, though most shows filled up more than 90 of their seats.

Beetlejuice will end its Broadway run at the Marquis Theatre on Jan. 8, 2023, producers announced today, making the musical the second high-profile production in recent days to announce a post-holiday departure.
Last Friday, The Phantom of the Opera announced that it would end its 35-year run in February, a casualty of a market still soft from the Covid pandemic’s impact on tourism, among other factors.
Though Beetlejuice, directed by Alex Timbers and starring Alex Brightman in the title role (played by Michael Keaton in the original 1988 Tim Burton film), hasn’t had anywhere near the longevity of Phantom, its lifetime on Broadway has been, as producers concede, unconventional, to say the least.
The musical opened at Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre on April 25, 2019, receiving so-so reviews and getting off to a slow start with audiences. With the Shubert Organization hoping to clear the venue for the revival of The Music Man with Hugh Jackman,...

‘Dear Evan Hansen’ Waves Goodbye To Broadway With Sell-Out Week; Broadway’s 24 Productions Gross 25M
A slate of four new productions and renewed interest in a couple of old ones pushed Broadway box office up by 20 last week, with total receipts for the 24 shows reaching 24,954,517 and attendance climbing 14 to 201,321 for the week ending September 18.
Among the newcomers: Death of a Salesman, 1776, Cost of Living and Tom Stoppard’s Leopoldstadt. Waving goodbye was Dear Evan Hansen and announcing its upcoming departure was The Phantom of the Opera.
First, Hansen. The musical closed September 18, selling out for its final week and grossing a big 1,251,593. A run that began November 14, 2016, ended after having played 1,678 performances. It won the Tony for Best Musical.
And while it was too soon to see much of the Phantom hubbub on the week’s chart — the musical announced its February 18 closing on Friday, bringing an imminent end to 35 years of music of the night — the production saw a noticeable uptick in receipts: 964,172, up 96,175 from the previous week.

The Phantom of the Opera, Broadway’s longest running show, is scheduled to close on Feb. 18.
The Andrew Lloyd Webber-composed musical has been playing at Broadway’s Majestic Theatre since January 1988. The musical has been a staple of the Great White Way, and popular culture, ever since, but has attracted more of a tourist audience in recent years — a demographic that has been slower to return amid the pandemic — and has seen its grosses waver, amid rising running costs.
Like all of Broadway, the production was forced to close when the industry was shut down on March 12, 2020. The musical reopened on Oct. 22, 2021 to great fanfare, which included Lloyd Webber DJ’ing to a crowd outside the theater. That fall, the musical saw a boost in grosses, alongside other returning classics, and was supported by federal funding in the form of a close to 9.9 million federal grant.

The news comes as the musical, known for its falling chandelier, its half-masked title character and its most famous song “The Music of the Night,” has become an icon of Broadway over the decades but has been as susceptible as other productions to the soft Covid market and weak tourist climate.
The musical has long played at the Shubert Organization’s Majestic Theatre.

ReviewThe film, centred on a booze party and a few men cooking biriyani together, is so inviting that it feels like it is happening around you.CrisIt is like you have just been to a booze party and spent a carefree night before morning came and struck you right across your face. Jeo Baby’s new film Sree Dhanya Catering Service, centred on a booze party and a few men cooking biriyani together, is so inviting that it feels like it is happening around you. The director, known for his realistic treatment of stories and feministic filmmaking, has tried his hand at comedy and pulls off a decent job. Only, it seems a little clueless in its telling, and the camera takes time to settle. For the first few minutes, you get a little dizzy with a jumpy camera moving between faces and places. There is the long-haired, bearded Mahonnathan...

Pioneering female filmmaker Margarethe von Trotta will receive this year’s lifetime achievement honor at the 35th European Film Awards.
The German director and screenwriter has been a force on the European film scene for nearly 50 years since her directorial debut The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum, co-directed with Volker Schlöndorff, back in 1975. She has carved out a unique position in cinema history with her focus on female stories, particularly portraits of real-life women overlooked or ignored by history.
Her second film, and first solo directing effort, Marianne & Juliane (1981), which won the Golden Lion in Venice, is a lightly-fictionalized retelling of the story of sisters Christiane and Gudrun Ensslin, one of whom became a journalist and women’s rights advocate, the other a left-wing terrorist. Barbara Sukowa, who starred as Marianne in the film, became von Trotta’s muse, playing the lead...
