The surf carnival finally arrives and gets a whole episode devoted to it.Ruby's defection to the Mangrove River team is a bit hard to fathom: It's understandable she'd want to be on the same team as Casey but would they really want her?Her clash with Miranda seems like six of one, half a dozen of the other, unlike her rather childish baiting of her earlier in the episode which undermines the character's recent renaissance.Xavier actually comes out of the episode a hero, even if he doesn't get the girl, and does at least win back Miranda's respect. (Although her choice of current boyfriend is a bit questionable.)John and Garry's feud does get a bit out of hand and it feels there isn't really enough of a climbdown from John after it gets nasty.
As for the riot that springs up in the closing minutes...well, it's actually pretty minor league, apart from one nasty incident, and hard to see what Charlie's getting so worked up about.Since none of the main characters are really in danger, it's hard to care that much, but there has at least been some sort of build-up with the River Boys showing signs of simmering tension.
